seasprite
Now see you guy's make more sense than whole group of engineers at the big three unless big oil paying them to keep quite. I mean look at trains there diesel electric and look how far and how much weight they haul. I know technology been out there for awhile but it probably being suppressed by some special interest group like tree hugers.
MaDuce
When it comes to fuel, I think the environmentalists are on side with the bulk of people for different reasons. When it comes to stuff like that, "environmentally friendly" often means less expensive to run, at least from what I understand.
planeflyer21
Jeep was caught off guard with the diesel Liberty...they sold them all at price, no questions asked and had plenty of demand for more. 8-speed? Does that mean a transfer case doubler?!

Does that mean a transfer case doubler?! Lot's of new cars have seven and eight speed transmissions. Their computers skip many gears when driving briskly (normally) but will use all eight gears if you really try to milk the car for milage. The eight speed keeps the RPM down and the milage up to help the car manufacturers meet the manufacturer full line minimum and avoid a gas guzzler tax. I think it's exactly that some many fat cats have their pockets in oil why would they want to use less. The locomotive thing came to mind with the post about a diesel volt. Our work vans are 1 tons with the 6 speed in them, I hate them they are pooches getting on the interstate sucks and when pulling out into traffic you gotta put your foot thru the floor
unforgiven
So in the over all big picture and the long run of a car/truck.What are the overall costs [up keep] of gas vs. diesel?? Tuneups, oil changes.Cold weather/warm weather. <dontknow>
seasprite
Speaking of Tranny's my wife just bought an Honda Accord sport that has CVT transmission no gears just a chain between two pulleys that change the ratio by changing the width of the grove the chain rides in. You feel no shifting at all just push on the gas and go.

seasprite
Price of diesel fuel is more than gas around here.Used to be dirt cheap till more people wanted it.Just sayin. Found this and thought it was interesting. Here is a breakdown of what a barrel of oil creates: 22.6 gallons of gasoline — enough to drive 622 miles in the average American car 6.7 gallons of diesel — enough to drive 41.7 miles in a tractor-trailer 5.5 gallons of jet fuel — not enough to fly a fully loaded 747 one mile. You'll get about 0.95 miles 2.4 gallons of "still gas," a mixture of gas produced in refineries 2.2 gallons of "marketable coke," a residue used in the production of aluminum anodes, furnace electrodes and liners and shaped graphite products 1.5 gallons of fuel oil, often used for heating or for fueling locomotives, ships and for power generation systems 1.2 gallons of liquefied gas, which is used in heating appliances and vehicles, and increasingly replacing chlorofluorocarbons as an aerosol propellant and a refrigerant 0.8 gallons of asphalt 0.4 gallons of lubricants, often placed in greases 0.7 gallons of other products I can see an increase in demand would cause prices to go up due to you don't get as much diesel from a barrel of oil. But with bio diesel should that be able to offset the cost of higher demand. DNP, My main concern with new 6 speed trannies is more moving parts so whats the reliability going to be like and with the car makers trying to keep weight down how thin are those parts that you need for longevity. DNP
You all are missing it completely. I'm not affraid of the transmission conversation...... Never mind. I failed. Not funny. Lol.

DNP
Man I hate the people who originally owned my house. When I started digging up the new driveway, I was looking for our main water line. I know where it comes into the house, and where it comes in from the street...but in between was unknown. I dug some holes to check for the line and found nothing. I was eventually led to assume that they may have actually done something right and that the line must be deep enough. (Unlike so many other projects they did around the home....these folks liked to do it themselves...they just never cared to do it right). So today, as I broke the concrete footing out of the old flower bed that led up the walk....I found the water line. Luckily enough I didn't destroy it. They burried the waterline in the bottom of the footing for the planter. A whole 3 inches deep. I'm glad the concrete was only on top of it and didn't go around the pipe. So...add another piece to the project. So much for just laying some pavers. Edited September 16, 2013 by DNP
DNP
Well..... This has gotten completely out of hand. This was a couple weekends ago now. Finished the weekend/week before the last AZ meet up. Then we decided the landscape needs a few upgrades. So I picked up a couple accent rocks today. Going to do at least one or two more this week. 98Z5V
How in the FCUK did you get those big bastards into that trailer?!!!?
DNP
Egyptian secret. Big ass Case loader. Damn bucket was 6" wider than the trailer though, so I had to stand them on the edge and push them over into the trailer. Then we used the smaller Tractor to shove them forward. Luckily it's a dump trailer, so once I got them spun the way I wanted ( with ratchet straps and a digging bar) I tilted her up and slid them out one at a time. I chained the back one in while the first one got dropped out.

Microgunner
So, how's that new Fusion Hybrid doing?
DNP
Not bad. It don't like the 85mph drive to AZ...only averaged 38-39mpg on that one. Been getting a little over 43 driving back and forth to work. She's already up to 7000 on the odometer.
Microgunner
Pretty good mileage for a car that big. P.S. My new Mitsubishi Mirage has registered 51.7 mpg on the interstate at 60 mph. Of course, it's half the size of the Fusion, has a puny little 1.2 liter engine and only weighs 2025 lbs.
