Who's gettin soft?

It's my spine that's in bad shape, all in areas where the outcome of surgery is not certain, I made the same decision last year, fix what we can so I could deal with the rest better, I got the carpal tunnel fixed in both hands now the numbness, weakness, tingling, and the constant aching is 100% gone ! Now I think I have a hip problem! At least they can fix those. My weight is a different story it has steadily been creeping up for years now I'm 5'11" and approaching 270, got to do something about that.

Got my carpal tunnel fixed up last year in both hands as well. Too many hours on the chain saw the Doc said. A lot better now, but after a bit of hard work my palms start to hurt. Still have some numbness from neck arthritis, but it's tolerable, and the weight lifting seems to help it. Just spent the last hour digging out two days of wood for the boiler ( about 400 pounds) to get ready for the 15 inches of snow we are supposed to get today and tomorrow. When you heat with wood you are going to get a lot of exercise, especially in the North Woods. As far as back surgery, always get a second opinion, and do as a last resort. It is among the least predictable of all surgeries as far as beneficial outcome. My Docs have always talked me out of it despite having three bulged discs, and they have been right. If you have residual nerve damage from a back injury, then consider it. If no nerve damage, I wouldn't.

Had my sinus's rotor rutered so I could breath better from a couple of shots to the head.Having those tampons in my nose sucked. But the out come was favorable.

No packing for mine cuz they lasered big trenches out and then actually sewed inside my nose on both sides. They were afraid if they broke any more stuff in there, even just to straighten it, the whole damn thing would collapse so they just dug out trenches, lasered away some bone burrs and junk I didn't need, sewed me back up and called it a day.

Gave me 60 percocets though which of course was quite a little bonus... :))

I've got 10 pounds to loose to get back to my pre-surgery weight. I can't wait to get back on the tread mill. As far as being in same shape I was in while on SWAT, I have more time to ride and spend with my wife and take her shooting.

I wonder if "Over Weight" is simply a state of mind? I'm 5'-6", weigh in at a whoppin' 165 (30# heaver than when I retired from the USN), I'm 62 years old, and I feel FAT!  After my wife was diagnosed with stage 2 Diabetes last month I started back on my (sympathy) exercise program to drop 20# and it is some kinda tough!  Maybe 165 isn't too bad after all!

Over weight that some dr says when you don't fit the bracket for the chart that says you should weigh this. I was told I should weigh 175-190, I haven't weighed that since 8th grade just cuz some dr says you should weigh a certain wait I think it's BS.

I need to drop 40 pounds minimum, but I also am more active than most 65 year olds. It sounds strange, but I think I will need to cut back a little on exercise and go on a strict diet so I lose both fat and some muscle mass. I have too much of both.

Seeing your garden reminded me of something I read once and I figured we're so off topic now anyway, what the hell.

Guiseppe was very upset. It was planting time and his son that always tilled and planted his garden had been arrested and was in prison.

He tried to do it himself but he was old and the ground was so very hard and eventually he was forced to give up.

In his depression, he sat down and wrote his son a letter:

Dear Anthony,

I am so sad right now. You will probably be in prison for years and without the garden this year, I am afraid I will be very hungry. I tried to do it myself but without you here, I am just not strong enough. The ground is so very hard and with not much money, I cannot afford to have anyone do it.

I am sorry to bother you with this son. I just miss you and now I'm afraid I may starve as well.

After a couple of weeks, Guiseppe received a return letter:

Dear Father,

Please don't dig around in the garden !!! There are things buried in there that could be very incriminating and with my new trial coming up, things could go VERY badly for me if they were found.

your son Anthony

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Guiseppe opened it to find a dozen federal agents all standing there with shovels and a warrant.

1 week later, another letter arrived. It read:

Dear Dad,

I hope those feds didn't scare you too much but the garden should be in fine shape for planting by now. Sorry for the scare but it was the best I could do.

Anthony
