greenmist
General Motors goes into Bankruptcy protection, collects $80 Billion in TARP money of which it keeps $32 Billion. Comes out of bankruptcy as Government Motors and is now moving whole hog to China. Welcome to Communist Motors. This is now CM, as they take $12 Billion to build more factories in China. Glad we already made the switch, some years ago. :fawkdance: http://www.reuters.com/article/comments/idUSBREA3J08N20140420 Brilliant O'Bummer tactics for jobs creation here. Wow. Microgunner
What's wrong with an American company getting a chunk of the Chinese market for a change? It's far better than the nearly one way street it has been.
greenmist
What's wrong with an American company getting a chunk of the Chinese market for a change? It's far better than the nearly one way street it has been. For a change? They took TARP money there and India ASAP in 2009. The "Chinese market" is NOT what they are building vehicles for exclusively. Their Buick factories have been shipping cars here for some time now. They bought 3 Dae Woo factories and have been shipping back here for several years now. It's not the sales pitch we were given to loan/gift them Billions of U.S. tax dollars for, to relocate? No. The argument that ..."they don't ship those vehicles here " is a false one-doesn't work anymore.
shepp
The Chinese are what kept Buick afloat and from taking the path of Pontiac and saturn. The Buick is a status symbol In china like a Benz or even Bentley is here. I saw a few Buick dealer ships in Shanghai while families will go in on buying one, mom dad and grown children all because a person of power had one

Microgunner
I don't think we have anything to worry about. As stated, GM has been building cars overseas, as well as Ford, for decades. The Chinese built cars are primarily for the Asian market due to China's high import tariffs. If we don't build them there GM will miss out on the largest burgeoning car market in the world. Now that'd be stupid. If they start exporting them to the U.S., just don't buy one.
shepp
^^^ true. Don't know why but them chinese go mad for them buicks. I was told an emperor or someone in the 30's/40's had one. Idk I'd this is true but I saw a lot of black buicks in Shanghai and they stick out like a sore dick amoung all the vw's and scooters

Microgunner
They HAVE been importing them. Nope, never buying another GM vehicle again. OK, maybe a Z06.... There you go, that's really all you can do. They'll stop importing what they can't sell and if they export enough jobs they'll destroy they're own market. It's a self leveling situation. Microgunner
So I looked it up and as of late 2013 GM China says they are not exporting any Chinese built cars to the U.S. but are considering it. They did say they are exporting the South Korean built Buick Enclave to the U.S though. That's GM's official statement.
blue109
the biggest problem with the Chinese built cars is that 15 minutes after you leave the pump you have to fill up again. man we get alot of MILAGE out of that joke round 'chere Edited April 22, 2014 by blue109
shibiwan
After seeing crash tests of Chinese-made autos, it makes me cringe that they are trying to export them to the US. Edited April 22, 2014 by shibiwan
greenmist
Dae Woo is a South Korean company. That's right, it WAS, and now they send them back here with a Chevy badge. Malibu, Aveo, and whatever those really small ones are.
greenmist
That's GM's official statement. Problem: On the Final Assembly line where we built Tahoes and Suburbans we had A LOT of engine fire problems after the start-up/testing phase. The windshield washer nozzle/bottle has a heating element in it and it was catching on fire after electrical short out, melting, etc.. Solution: Don't be a squealer, ship it to the dealer-electricals DISconnected and shipped to the dealers. GM's official statement: we don't/didn't have a problem with engine fires. My advice to you with Tahoes/Suburbans? Do NOT park them INSIDE your garage. hint hint... Remember after 9/11, GM's marketing was "Let's Keep America Rolling". If some of you guys want to support a Communist country's infrastructure, with profits mostly made and donated to them from here? You at least now have an informed decision on where your money is going to, and it aint America. "We're not shipping those (Mexico built) trucks into the U.S., they go overseas." was the mantra of the 80s, when they found $1.50 an hour Mexican labor and no benefits to pay, or unemployment/Social Security. It's complete BS game on the American workers, but hey, people cannot figure out WHY one of the biggest industries in their town today is heroin and ODs? At least we got rid of those damn Unions!!? :rant2:
Microgunner
Wikipedia says Daewoo is solely owned by GM Korea and does manufacture some Chevrolet models in South Korea for U.S. import. No mention was made of any Chinese ownership or production. It was also stated the the Daewoo nameplate no longer exists in South Korea having been replaced by the Chevrolet moniker on all Daewoo cars. The point is : Buying a Chevy means YOU are building vehicle assembly plants in Asia, NOT America. Need to support Communism or $1.00 an hour wages? Buy Chevy. Simple. survivalshop
We pretty much support the Chinese economy any way, hard to find most things "made in the USA " now a days. We get loans from China from the money they make off of the products we buy here made by them . Viscous circle. This Administration is owned by China !
