Making .22 Ammo

Old men sitting in their piece of shiit Datsun pickups, out front of Walmart, waiting for the weekly delivery

Every retail ammo guy I've spoken to about the ammo shortage says that the .22 disappears within a half hour of delivery.

And these guys also all say they're getting way less .22 delivered than they got before the shortage hit. And when I ask these guys how the hoarders get to the .22 before delivery -- after all, something is cutting into the usual size of the deliveries -- these guys don't know.

Something is reducing the amount of ammo available to retailers and their hoarders.

It's been a while since I asked, but at the time, the same was true of 9mm. I'm starting to see 9mm on the shelf now and then, though still mostly not.

The same was true for almost everything.

Hell, brother - this time last year, and throughout most of last year, the only thing that was available was 20ga, 30-06, 7mm Magnum.

Thank god I have a 30-06.  Twinkle Toes (Porter, my stepson) just got a 20ga Mossberg 500 for his 18th birthday last week, just because of that.

...the military used to use a lot of 22 LR for training , but that was a long time ago , no idea if they still do . I can't help it I'm old <thumbsup>

Was stationed in Yongsan, Korea (Seoul, Korea) in '91~'92.  In that big of a city, there were no shooting ranges.  We had one, that was outside the city to the south, up on a mountain top, and you fired a 25m range, but through a 4ft concrete culvert - so the rounds wouldn't "accidentally" deflect UP.

There was ONE indoor firing range, on Yongsan South Post.  "Sub-Cal Range."  .22LR adapters in the M-16s, fired the course at 15m.

That's the only time I've ever seen the things used in the .mil.  At the time, I really wanted one of those sub-cal adapters.  Now, it's the CMMG .22 adapter, and I have one...  <lmao>

Here is some 22lr...

Take a good look !

That all you get.. a look.

With that much ammo on hand, you're set for a very long, relaxing and prosperous retirement. Or being the local warlord after SHTF and groceries are precious. >:D

Tom, the Natl. Guard here used to have an indoor range and they trained in there with the .22 rimfire conversions in their M-16 rifles using reduced targets to simulate longer ranges. The EPA or some such agency shut the range down due to lack of sufficient ventilation. The last time I was in there the baffles and backstop had all been taken out.

Now that was cool, wounder how long before that priming compound starts drying out? That would be a scary position to have there.

I know in the Navy we qualified on 1911 with the .22 conversion on them in boot. That was back in 88 so I have know idea if they still do or not.

I like how the bucket proudly states "New and Improved!"  <lmao>

They're still the Remington Golden Turds, as Jon so affectionately calls them...  <laughs>

I can only shoot those little bastards through the 22 bolt guns.  My semi's hate that stuff.

Just got back from Dick's Sporting Goods here in Iowa. I was there to get a paper target holder and asked him if he had .22lr.

He said he had no .22lr. He also said that he doesn't get .22lr. Now this guy has been working there for at least 2 years.

I asked him, do you mean the hoarders aren't getting any from you, he said yes. I asked him, are the hoarders are getting .22lr before his store does, he said, it doesn't seem likely.

I asked him if he had any .308, he said no, he doesn't get that, either.

But dang do they have as many rifles for sale as you'd ever want to buy. There just ain't no ammo fer 'em.

The guy at Dave's blamed the government for him having only shotgun ammo, but he wasn't sure how they were keeping his shelves empty.
