its a demilled sniper, got it for $150 in nice shape. i'll take pics soon :)

I can't decide whether to leave it as is, basically a plain 91/30 or put it back to being a sniper. Or to even sporterize it, or add a current type scope leaving the stock as is.

I do like the idea of period correct. paying that much for a 70 year old fixed magnification scope sucks though :D

I agree with the crowd.  Either leave it as is or restore it to its former sniper glory.  They tend to be great shooting rifles as is. 

I updated my SKS but left my Mosin the way it was.  There are some things that modern cosmetic changes won't improve.

What do you guys think of getting a repro original style scope vs an actual original?

Keep in mind the Mosin's greatest charm is being cheap.

If you're thinking of spending real money then I believe better options are available.

Reproduction is fine, unless you want to have a show rifle, I would go that route. It's a beauty

I don't want to spend any real money on it. maybe a shim kit for accurizing which is around a dollars worth of thin brass plus some time, some trigger mods I can do for free other than a spring, and I can get a $200 scope/mount setup if I go repro. $400 if an original 1944 scope. Given I have no money after buying this, ammo and that LC9S and my daughter is getting married sort of surprise quick married this weekend ($400 for a cake?????) i'll probably just shim it and shoot it with iron sights for a while.

Considering this one has been ready for 70 years so far, yeah :D something very satisfying about holding a rifle of that age. I know some of you guys have ones that are quite a bit older too.

 Shot one Sunday from standing @ about 75 yards & was surprised how many times I hit the small eight ring with the damn thing . The one I shot had a straight bolt handle.

Thats cool. Had one come into the LGS last week and he took it in for $75. my buddy said ill give you $100 for it. He almost took it home but decided to put the money into ammo instead.  It also had a straight bolt handle and an octag recv.

it would have been worth that. cheapest you can get them for "normally" is around $130, and so far as anyone can tell they are finally starting to run relatively low on the ones left to import. at which point they'll become $200 rifles at least

Mosins are a good rifle and there is alot you can do with them if you choose to sportserize
