free float handguard for 308 dpms hunter g2...
survivalshop replied to dtom's topic in General Discussion
Those measurements have nothing to do with the G2 , they are pre 2009 & post 2009 Upper Receiver Rail heights of the original DPMS LR 308"s . The low being what is supposed to be the same as the AR 15 . MidWest makes a good Hand Guard , I have one on my 16" 308AR & a new one on my AR 15 Piston Build , I like them . The G2 version probably has a different Barrel Nut compared to the LR 308 -
Can you supply a photo of the Gas tube as it sits inside the Upper Receiver , it should look like this ,in relation to the Cam Pin recess in the Upper Receiver. It should be somewhere in the center of it . Just blowing air down the Gas Tube is not proof it it will allow the proper Gas signature to the BCG . A lot of these Gas Blocks Now a days , both Clamp on & Set Screw types ,have the Screw hole nearest the Barrel Stop flange for the Gas Block on the Barrel , that is used to drill the Port hole in the Gas Block , You can , with the Gas tube removed , flip the gas Block 180deg. so its on top of the Barrel , so as to see its orientation with the Barrels Gas Port & use a Feeler gage or other measuring device , so when the Gas Block is orientated in its proper position , it can be spaced or set accordingly . Also when Gas Block is off or out of position , you can measure the Gas port hole size in the Barrel , Drill Bits work good enough to get close to the size measurement . I'm assuming the Gas system is a Rifle Gas system .

But , DPMS has not made a "High " Receiver Rail since 2009 , they have been the " Low " Rail height ,as an AR 15 since , so why would they say its " Reduced overall Height " , that statement is confusing & misleading . What , you have never purchased a Hand guard that didn't fit ? Someone has to take one for the G2 Team at some point , If I had one , I would make it work . You may be right about that Barrel nut , but with out one out for Dimensional measurements , No Idea. -
If you assembled the Barrel assembly , you might want to check to make sure the Gas Block it orientated correctly with the Gas Port in the Barrel .

Its not needed on a Rifle Stock system ,, Thats for a Collapsable Stock system , but a Spacer may be needed at the end of the Receiver Extension inside the Stock , with a longer Stock attachment screw for the A2 stock , if thats what this one is .

How long is the Buffer Spring , end to end ? Was the G10 Upper a complete unit assembled ?

Far out ! Couldn't happen to a better guy . -
interesting Bolt Catch you have there , Looks like a real rough cast or made from that powdered Metal forming . If the rifle is stripping fresh rounds some of the time , but not locking back on last round fired , it may need more or different lubricant & higher break round count , as has been said . 98 is correct , we seem to see a lot of issues with non compatible Receivers , but there is always a way around it . -Can you lick back the BCG manually & will it lock back with a empty Mag inserted when charged to the rear fully ? - Measure & count the coils on the Buffer Spring -Measure the length of the Buffer & weigh it , if you can. - Could also be an issue with gas system , could be an adj. issue , some have a locking set screw before the adjuster that has to be removed before adjusting .ya never know , just putting it out there .

It also reads @ the Receiver Rail " Reduced overall Height , Length & Weight " . Now what does the mean , as far as the rail ? I thought the Post 2009 Rail Height was to bring it to AR 15 height , does this mean its of another dimension or height ? I'd like to have one , but not going to buy one to test Hand Guards out . Its up to you new owners to let us know . -
New Geissele Buffer system , here is the thread I started

You will probably have to purchase a complete rifle for a Piston system 308AR . Thee is none made( that I know of ) to convert a DI system rifle to a Piston system , even if you get a complete upper from a manufacturer that uses one , you would have to purchase their Lower receiver to mate up with it & if you do that , might as well buy the complete rifle . Its not like an AR 15 , where they have conversions kits for one .

When I lived in the country up north , I had a outside /inside cat that used to go into the woods with me , even sit with me while Bow Hunting , I miss that cat . -
Seems like Australia's Gun by back isn't helping crime like they though it would , who would of thought . http://www.breitbart.com/2nd-amendment/2016/09/11/melburne-australia-shooting-every-week-since-january-2015/

There are so many to choose from , I just haven't picked one yet . I know some here will cringe , but I actually like the A2 P Grip.

They will not sell for anything near what the article reads , that high asking price is for non imported original unmolested M1's . These Arsenal refinished rifle will be less expensive then a Fulton or Springfield Armories rifles , but the same issues were there when the first group came into the US , I sold Many of them & still have one , I was getting five or more price of $ 179 ea. back then . No doubt they would go for way much more now .
-
An investor had the rifle's ( M1 Garands ) waiting to be imported & ol'butthole denied the import ( he didn't want to add to the Assault rifles already on our streets , truth ). It was rumored Springfield Armory had some input on the denial , but that's a rumor , who knows . Highly unlikely South Korea will be permitted to import M14's , if they did , they would be for LE , Military or Class three Dealer samples . Now the M1's , they are all Arsenal refinished & are very good rifles , mostly with war torn stocks , mostly Birch.

Ya just have to love these things , though this is not on a 308AR , but was one sale through Strike Industries for $ 7.50 . I wanted one in FDE for the Piston Build , I out the Black one on my BRO build , one less part I need . I think I need to put a bunch more FDE trinkets on her .

I remember reading that a couple of years ago , its a powerful message of what could happen . Good find Wash !
