  1. Well , I pulled that Barrel nut off that had MilSpec grease on it for over twenty years & it was still greasy & that rifle had plenty of mag dumps over its time . When you have over twenty years on any thing else you put on there , you can tell us about it . <dontknow> <lmao>
  2. Wonder where you can get one like that to retro fit it to other AR's . There has to be a source some where for them . I guess I will have to look around the net .
  3. I'd rather have a Helmet , I don't think you would survive a head hit with that cap , I would rather be dead then a Vegetable . Just my opinion .
  4. Learn something new every day 98 , didn't you have a guy that had a Upper that the catch for the DC was worn & wouldn't hold ? I see this feature is not on the std AR15 version , but they have an enhanced one that does & the 308 ones all have it .
  5. Nice set . That looks like a proprietary Charging Handle , interesting . I have a Billet Gen II 308 Upper one the rifle I'm building now & its going to have a 18.5 Criterion bbl. . Wish I had the $$ for a 300 win mag.
  6. One company to make or install all the upgrades , I see that they are already lining up .
  7. Maybe you got a bad one , this one is solid as a metal one , maybe more . We need more reviews . I would call or email them with your observations , hell ,maybe its the color <laughs>
  8. You've got dingle balls again & I'm not picking them off this time . <dontknow>
  9. I also installed the Magpul rifle stock & removed the JP , VTac Hand Guard from my 16'bbl. rifle & installed a Midwest SS gen 2 to match the Uppers on both rifles , since the Tactical Machining Upper I installed on the 16" was a low pro.. Strike Industries , Dust Cover Magpul rifle stock , I also like this & will not use another A1/A2 stock . DD Brake Vltor Gas Block Now all I need is my Criterion 18.5" bbl. & I be busting caps . <thumbsup> My 16" with new Midwest Hand guard , I have to shoot some to see how I like it . I'm also going to see how the QR rings work , going back to zero ,because the scope was sorta in the way .
  10. You could also blind you adversary when you whip that bling out . <laughs> Reminds me of some of those old 1911"s that were Chromed .
  11. Got a bunch of stuff from Brownells yesterday , one thing that is interesting is the Strike Industries Dust cover , I like it & will probably never buy another MilSpec std Dust cover . I like how it has 308 imprinted or molded on the cover also . I got it in black , they have other colors & different configurations . I just got the std one , but it was easy to install & can easily be removed if needed , but I don't think I have ever removed one after it was initially been installed . I'l post some photo's here after I down load them.
  12. I had my 16" Hand Guard & Barrel off today & probably because of the diameter of the larger 308 Barrel , as has been said , the Barrel Nut is of course sized in proportion to it , my Gas Tube does rise up a little , but I think most of it is the bulge at that end of the gas Tube . I inspected that end of the Gas Tube & can't see any rubbing or marks that would indicate the Carrier Key is even touching it . I guess I could make a measuring device to see if the Gas Tube at the Key end is not uniform in the cannel , but I don't think its measurement would be something we should worry about . I have shot a lot of ammo from this 16" bbl. & if it was going to cause some kind of problem , I believe I would have seen something by now . If someone wants to make & use a specific 308 Gas Tube , that's fine , I just think its a non issue.
  13. I use a pull down Powder that isn't available now a days ( WC 846 ) meters real good , of course its a Ball Powder. I found Ramshot's , TAC Powder meters well & so far, I've found its very close to the WC 846 , so much so , that I will buy more of it . There are others , but I've been using the WC 846 for so long , I have just started for a replacement . The Dillion's Powder Measure meters will with most powders . I have a 550B & get decent results even with IMR 4064 ,an extruded Power . We have a Reloaders section here & you may get more responses down in the " Shooting everything else " section , under 'Ammo". I'm trying the 155 gr. Amax & Nosler 155 gr, Match right now . I have some Chronograph results for a few 168 gr. bullets in the reloaders section , as do others.
  14. I'm also not that familiar with the POF rife's Gas system , but its like the M14/M1A ,if I remember correctly . Stove piping is usually caused by weak Gas Pulse or a Ejector or Extractor , but since you swapped the Bolts out , that kinda rules out any Bolt Components , if you think its leaking around the Gas Plug , put a piece of tape around it , fire a round off & see if it blows the tape off . I don't know how the Gas Piston Block is attached , but you would need to swap out all the Parts . Might not be worth the trouble , but it would be the only way to know for sure . To swap out all components with known working ones . As was said above , I also thought they had two settings on their Gas system. (Off , on & remove , maybe not in that order ) Are you using Lubricant , because some think you don't need to with the NIB ? <dontknow> Those POF rifles , I thought were Guaranteed for life ? They don't have a Warranty Dept. ? I don't get it .
  15. I'm getting one in a shipment today , but I paid more than twice that for it , on sale . The Mitigator is the name , I believe. Thats looks like a Mid length Gas System & a 16 " Barrel ?
  16. The rail heights of the Upper receiver are pre 2009 & post 2009 , with the post 2009 being the lower height ( there is a Pinned Thread on it here some where ), both have plenty of Free Float Hand Guards available ,there is a DPMS super high target rail height Upper Receiver , but the only one who makes a FF hand Guard for it is DPMS . Proprietary parts AR 10- Barrel Extensions ,Barrel nut ( threads are different ) , Bolts , Firing Pins , Receiver Extension components . These are compared to DPMS components . Go completely with DPMS or Armalite AR 10 , You can use all Receiver Extension & Buffer parts of one or the other , DPMS or AR 10 , No mixing the two Assemblies . Your building a DPMS type 308AR , stick with DPMS components & you should be fine . You can substitute small parts like , AR 10 has a better made Magazine catch , Bolt Catch & some like there Receiver Extension & Buffer components set up , but its up to you if you want to experiment . I have almost all DPMS pattern components . I have an AR10 Mag catch in one of my 308AR's . Others should speak up, because I probably missed something .
  17. Yes the Finnish was bad & I would have told them so also , but the main reason for the Magazine is to hold & supply the rifle with ammunition , if it works , the Finnish means nothing . Cosmetic , nothing more or nothing less , I would put cosmetics low & a one star , just for cosmetics is kinda harsh , but if your not satisfied , your not satisfied , plain & simple . I don't think they get all that worked up about it , but I'm sure they will look into it & they should . Because of the Mag photo you posted , I didn't order any this last order , which will be here Friday . I'll wait , I have so many Mags now , I'm in no hurry .
  18. There are a lot of forces involved with a big bore cartridge & the lighter you make one to shoot it , I would think certain components would not have a long service life . Some the the best combat rifles in history are in that 10-12 # range . All Battle proven & excellent service lives . <dontknow>
  19. I wouldn't bend anything till I checked to see how it fits . If the Gas tube was off 1/16" at the Carrier Key , you would notice it , because it would not go into the Key , there's not a lot of room for error . If they are saying its being bent when fitted into the Upper Receiver , you would feel that also & know there was a problem . I will be taking off my Gas Block & Hand Guard ( have a new Hand Guard coming ) Friday on my 16" 308AR & will see how it fits in there . I'm curious now .
  20. The Gages are good tool for Maintenance also ,not only to check a new Barrel . If you have to get a new Bolt , you should check HS , just for safety .
  21. Not to mention some parts are proprietary on both models.
  22. Are you asking if it would be OK to just try the Field Gage to check HS ? Like its the only Gage you have .
  23. As said above , if your gas tube fits into the Carrier Key properly , there is no issue . We have seen some issues with Gas Tube length , with the Rifle Length gas tubes on some Barrels , I think Fulton Armory's Criterion Barrels reads you need their Gas Tube , But I have two of their Rifle Length gas , Barrels & I have been using std AR 15 Rifle length Gas Tubes . I will soon find out if my third Criterion Barrel will need anything different , because I have a AR 15 Gas Tube ready & waiting for the Barrel to come from Criterion Barrels . One other thing you'all may want to think about , if the Barrel has a .750" Gas Block fitment , wouldn't that have the same centerline of the Barrel to the .750" outside diameter ? How would that get the center line of the Gas Tube higher ? Be it a 308 AR or an AR 15 <dontknow> Now maybe Armalite AR 10 May be different , I don't know about that , but there are people who may know , they will speak up .
  24. The photo's for the Ares Armor show a DPMS configuration of Lower Receiver , but any time you miss match Receivers , you can have fitment issues , its a crap shoot , if you feel lucky , all may work with out a problem . I think the percentages of everything fitting is in your favor though . I like to keep both Upper & lower of the Same Manufacturer , if you can , but your situation is different .
