  1. I believe the DPMS AR & AR 10 are about the same , because some are using the barrels in ether platform they just have different threads on the Barrel nuts for the two different platforms . The relationship of the Lar 8 's locking lugs , no idea how they would mate up to the other two & I think the BCG of the LAR 8 is longer , but someone who owns or has owned one will have to say for sure .
  2. Brownells sells a punch just for removing the AR15 BC pin .
  3. 16" HB by Criterion with rifle length gas system . Getting a chopped down barrel to work with a rifle length gas system is just a matter of the right combo & weight of the moving parts . You can only get so much gas volume through a normal size gas tube .
  4. Good shooting .
  5. Here is my Romanian AK in 5.56 x45 .
  6. After you have the loading set the way you want it @ 100 yds., shoot at longer ranges , so you can make a log ( range card ) of what scope settings you need to do for different range adjustments . I have not had a loading yet that shot well when compressed , not saying its not possible to shoot as well as a non compressed load , but I haven't found it to be that way . I prefer to have some room in the case for ignition . If I have a load that has a compressed load because of the bullet , I look for a different powder that uses less volume for the Velocity threshold I'm looking for , with that particular bullet . I tried the Barnes M/LE Tac X 168 gr. bullet & even with the proper neck tension , with IMR 4064 ( compressed load ), the bullet would sometimes pop back out of the case & screw my COL. up . The bullet is so long & slender at the tip , it would also stick or wedge itself in the seating stem . I had to polish the inside of the stem where the bullet sits , for it to work properly & that didn't help in the bullet popping back up from the compressed load . After IMR 4064 didn't work out , I used my WC 846 ball powder & had no problem with loading . There is a thread on it here some where. On another note , Swaging the primer pocket on crimped brass is really ,really boring, when you have hundreds to do , that's all I have to say .
  7. What , you would contemplate a purchase of a part other than from Armalite ! Blasphemy <laughs>
  8. I think everyone should have an AK in their collection , just so you know how to use one , their coming to a shore near you . <laughs> I'll post a photo of mine when I get a chance .
  9. Thanks , lots to look at . I looked with a Google search for a while , but not many said " Made In USA " , so I had to ask here , it doesn't look like too much trouble to slap on . I also , after looking & the fact that all my Mag pouches have securing cover flaps on them , that that is what I want on the M.O.L.L.E. gear . Tactical Taylor looks good & I found another one ,http://www.bdstacticalgear.com/pd-bds-tactical-modular-stacker-4-308-magazine-pouch.cfm
  10. As far as DPMS & AR 10 , its thread pitch , as far as the LAR 8 , not sure . Note : That's Barrel nut thread pitch .
  11. So what are you gentlemen using for a 308 mag. pouches for m.o.l.l.e. attachment ? I have no idea about this stuff , I'm of Alice gear age .
  12. Yes , just the beginning .
  13. Less capacity ( marginal ), but stronger made case with more material at the web & base of the case . With moderate loading the cases will last longer . Annealing even makes them last even longer , as long as the primer pocket retains its retention spec's. I just went through my old 5.56 brass , not sure how many reloadings , but after checking primer pocket retention , I tossed about 1/3 of them & another 15 % because of splits in the case neck . ( before I annealed cases ) This is with almost five hundred cases.
  14. Speed is not everything . Max charge can be good or bad for accuracy. You can usually get better results with below max charge & your brass will thank you for it . Certain powders can be dangerous with compressed loads .
  15. Nice job . Sure is nice having the tooling to do this kind of work . Thanks for sharing . A good hand lapping tool can be purchased from several companies & work very well , if used correctly .Having a lapping tool is good to check any scope ring set or one piece mount ring alignment . Some scope problems can be related to ring alignment & you would think that the billet one piece mounts would be perfect , but not always the case , could be who makes them . Individual ring sets can benefit greatly by checking their alignment & lapping , to true them, if needed ,as you have done to a one piece mount .
  16. Ya, Never thought of it that way .
  17. That ,I didn't know, good job <thumbsup>
  18. Sure ,but put an arm or chin around them & see how that works . I have no problem believing that an AR500 anything will stop what its designed for , its the mere fact that by not capturing the fragments of the projectile(s) is the true threat to the wearer or bystanders that bothers me . Unless there is some thing that mitigates those fragments or it could be a complete projectile , if angle is right to do it . The carrier is not going to stop much unless its of a material that can also suppress bullets or their fragments . As said put a vest on a complete Ballistic gelatin torso with head & arms at same relationship as a Human & see what happens . The tests I have seen with BG torso's with no arms or head or with its family or friends next to it when shots taken & I will admit I'm wrong about the whole thing .
  19. C-clip on pivot pin may not help, but cause enough resistance to stop pin movement . That para cord my melt in there & cause problems with easy removal . You could also make an extension , albeit ,a thin walled one , that would restrict its movement enough so the cover pin would not come out of the blind end in the Receiver . A large C-clip in that gap attached to the Upper Receiver Barrel nut threads , but you would have to remove the Barrel nut to install it .
  20. This may sound strange , but how long is the screw that attaches the stock to the receiver extension ( Buffer tube ) ?
  21. That's good because I'm looking for a 308 barrel now that the one I had ordered from another Co. went belly up . Where will these Barrels be available ?
  22. I wear about 50% of the time , depends on the temp. & weather .
  23. " Check Brownells , they have a 308 dust cover that is spring loaded at both ends , no long pivot pion ." Dead On Arms , LCC" , but Brownells is out of stock on them right now . Maybe you can find them some where else or right from the co..
  24. More influence from the Commie's in the white house.
