  1. If you call RCBS up they will most likely just send you another de-priming stem. I have bent a couple . Once I deprimed a Berdan primed case & some times military crimped primers will do it & also the stem could have loosened up & got at a bad angle & missed the flash hole. I keep extra's in stock ,just in case.
  2. No , with a MSRP of $ 2132 for the SIG 716 , adding a hand guard , stock to a AR 10 m4, would put you around 1/2 the cost of a new 716 & you would still have the long range complete AR 10 upper. You were going to get an ACOG or Red dot sight added to the 716 , so it would be added to both set ups . I can't argue with your choice of a SIG 716 rifle though , but you can not go wrong with an AR 10 ether.
  3. If you set the bullet completely into the case or close to it & may depend on bullet /powder to have enough room to set it back far enough . I just tried to chamber a 125gr. 300 BLK into a 5.56 chamber & there is no way it will chamber . The H110 I'm using would not let it set back into the case any way . The BCG was about a 1/2 " out from seating , an empty case will lock the BCG & you can drop the firing pin , but case mouth was deformed a little . Now the Sub's may be different , another reason I like the lighter ,faster , stronger bullets :auto:
  4. Most may not like to hear this , but I load until I see problems with the brass & I have never annealed . Usually I see a split at the case mouth & if load testing , I some times get expanded primer pockets ( if they are a little hot ) The reason I have had a problem with the primer pocket is that I have been using WC 846 , being a pull down powder with no real reliable loading data ( lot to lot can be different ), I some times have went a little hot with my test loads . This was also before I got a Chronograph. The price of this stuff any more , I will stretch them as far as possible . Annealing can increase case usable life even further.
  5. It won't help you <laughs>
  6. 308's on patrol , interesting . What was there reasoning to let 308's , in on patrol ? I know why I like it ,but why would the forces that be , have reason , to allow it ? I would also think about a Carbine complete upper . If you have a full rifle stock on the rifle now , changing it to a good retractible stock will not take any thing away from the rifle with using the long range upper . You won't need to sell & get a multi mission rifle . Unless you are just set on getting a new rifle . <dontknow>
  7. I don't seem to have the problems with my Strike fire , that they had . The Vortex ,Strike fire is the fist red dot scope I have bought , but not the first I've used. I have no problem seeing the dot in the bright sun light here in Florida ,but have to agree it is a larger unit then the others tested . What they call bulkiness , to me its built like a tank & what they didn't try ,was how they performed in cold weather , I did & the Vortex worked every time I used it . Any testing like this has its ups & downs , but why use a sight that you know is malfunctioning , how is that a fair comparison to the others that are in perfect working order ?
  8. Not all Zombies are dead . There are different species of Zombies , some dead & some are alive & possessed ( like most democrats ) :eek13:
  9. Case mouth indentations happen on some rifles , depends on a couple of factors , some you have no control over & some you don't & may just go away with a higher round count. Just keep shooting & see how she goes .
  10. Start low & work your way up in small increments & only a few reloads in each weight , so if there is one that shows high pressure signs , you have less bullets to pull . <thumbsup> Nice if you have a Chronograph available . I would stay with in there published data & see how they work & shoot. . Its all about consistency . You can experiment outside there parameters when you have an established load .
  11. I would send the rifle to them , with the FCG (broken ) in it . Call them & See if they will give you a shipping return label , good luck with that , but you never know . You shouldn't have to replace the FCG every hundred rounds .
  12. Looks like you mostly have HUD red dot sights in that group . I have a Vortex Strike Fire & Deer hunted with it once , even though I didn't shoot any thing with it , its a nice set up . Seems to be a soundly made unit , I had it on & sighted it in with a 12 ga. slug gun . Got to put the dot on two bucks , but was Buck tagged out already .
  13. All loading Data , as said above is & as far as Max loadings , is on the conservative side . There load data is just for reference for starting loads , every barrel/chamber will give some what different results , as would different manufacturers bullets . They may be close , but some bullets because of there make up ( jacket thickness ,lead core hardness ect.) ,can give different results in pressure ,velocity & grouping on target. This may be the reason of different published data for the same weight bullet from different manufacturers, they test there bullets with the various powders. So you use published data as a guide & experiment with loadings , safely , of course . In my experience , max loadings , have not been the most accurate in my rifles. Nor do they produce the best ES & SD on the Chronograph, which produce the most consistent ammo.
  14. DPMS probably doesn't make there Fire Control Groups. There are a lot of trigger systems out there ,but if your rifle can be repaired by DPMS under warranty , at no cost to you , I would send it back with a detailed letter how you are not pleased with two FCG 's that broke , with such a low round count . You can always get another trigger system for a spare ,but they should repair it & there are a lot of DPMS rifles out there working just fine with there FCG's in them .There also can be a problem with a production run of there supplied FCG's. If it broke off completely when dry firing , I can't see the problem being any thing but the FCG or it just picked that time to let go . There also could be a problem with interference some where in the FCG that is putting excessive pressure on the Hammer during cycling when fired ( like the Hammer hitting the Disconnector ). Also a good reason to send it back to them .
  15. I also want to know if both (you say triggers failed ? ), but photo's show Hammer failure ?
  16. & happy Birthday .
  17. But he shot it with a 308 AR 15 ! <dontknow> One shot , hell , I would have opened up on that big sucka !
  18. There's a lot of pressure at the point in the barrel.
  19. When you read of all the ammo the Fed is purchasing , its no wonder there are component shortages & ammo . Never in my life have they made so many in so short of time . Not to mention for a ten year procurement , no less . Follow the money trail !
  20. I have a pre ban Olympic Arms build I put together ( with all there parts except the M16 BCG ,because they only sold AR 15 types ,back then )in the late 70's & she still is a tac driver .Still has all the same parts except I put a TM flat top upper on it for a scope a year or so ago. 24" SS HB match 1-10 twist. Wasn't built by them , but it has never had a problem ether . I have worked on a lot of Colts over the years & they do break parts also, just the way it is .
  21. Wrong powder would do it , but some thing had to happen with pressure ,because as noted , the bolt is still locked in the bbl. extension . Blocked or plugged barrel ? Did you see the one where some one left the cleaning rod in the bore , that thing blew pretty good .
  22. Some internal parts may be of better quality , but most is in the name , as said.
  23. I numbered the test loads above for better reference . The WW primers being old , may or may not be a reason for different pressures /results or it could also be that some primers work better with certain powders/Calibers & even bullets & or there manufacturers. I started this for a barrel comparison & it has now turned into more . I have always tried to set my loadings for the best consistent shooting . With the addition of a Chronograph , my reloading hasn't changed , but seeing what goes on as fas as what components work & what doesn't work, it has been an eye opener . You can always see what your reloads do on the target & since with out a Chrono to see whats really going on with the bullet out of the barrel , which has a direct effect on how the loading or you yourself shoot . Think of all those flyers you say are the shooters fault & most probably are , but now with all this Chrono testing , I can see that the combo of components & charge weight of powder , have an effect that can produce a flyer , even though your sighting & all else are correct for a good shot . I think by looking at the last data , I can get similar results ,( as far as constancy of reloaded ammo ) with both barrels using one load , I didn't think that was possible before these tests. The load of 40 gr. IMR 4064 looks like it will work for both rifles & since the 20" had no data on that load I have to do it again. We have to also remember that I'm using my back up scale while my more precise Pact scale is being repaired, so no idea if that has any thing to do with it . I'm out of 168 SMK's, so the other seven test loadings are all 168 SMK's with changes in powder weights from the first tests , tweaking to see if I can alter the results . I have some 168 Hornady match I can use until I get some more SMK's for testing , but I have narrowed the load data to two for the 175's & two for the 168 SMKs for both rifles. Look at the loads # 13 & 17 , with just a 0.5 gr. ( 40.0 gr. )change in load the 16", Velocity is only 68 fps less than the 39.5 gr. load for the 20". I found that strange . I know I can boost the Velocity up in both barrels , but with the ES& SD being what they are & if I can reproduce them consistently , they may be the loading for the 175 gr. Nosler Match bullets .
  24. Wonder if the BCG was MPI tested. Could be a lot of things that caused this , with out more info , we are only guessing .
  25. Went to the range today & tried the Anti-cant device out & it took a little used to , but I think it helped with groups . I have to go over my targets & see how todays match up to the last ones . Once I got used to looking at it to see how much I'm off , it took less looking because I knew approximately where it should be . Definitely going to get a couple more for some of my other AR's.
