  1. From left to right , 170 gr. stepped boat tail .308 , /168 gr. solid copper . 308 (.3075 ), /Hornady 55 gr. .223 , /55 gr. , solid copper .223 ( .2225 )
  2. I've had them for quite a while ,like my stepped boat tail 170 gr. 308 bullets that I only have about a hundred left. I will take some photos of both bullets, they are different & both shoot very well. I got the solid copper or it may be a gliding metal composure , from a buddy of mine at hunt camp , not sure who made them or where they came from , they were free bullets .
  3. I got some new toys the other day , a Pact electronic scale & factory crimp dies for .223 & 308 , to try out . The Pact scale is nice, but my cheap battery operated pocket scale was only off by 1-2 tenths of a grain, didn't even try the RCBS 10-10 scale , its thirty years old & I didn't want to embarrass it . I loaded a couple hundred .223 last night & the crimp die seems to work & absolutely no case set back , which I was impressed with . The Hornady 55 gr. FMJs were crimped & I did not have the case mouth far enough in the middle of the crimp groove to have it seated into it , but you can tell it did crimp it pretty good. I would not use these on my match bullets ,because I do not want to disfigure them in any way , Though it may not make a difference & I may test this to see . I have a couple of K of a solid copper bullets for both 308 (169 gr.) & .223 ( ( close to 60 gr. ) , these bullets are on the small dia side , being .3075" for the 308's & .2225" for the .223 bullets . I have bushing dies for more neck tension ,but I still like to crimp them more securely than my taper crimp die's. This may be the ticket. Any one using the Lee factory crimp dies & what do you think of them ?
  4. The last three orders from Brownell's , I got 10 pak's of Pmags with the orders.I probably order too much from them <thumbsup> Now all I need is some more powder & bullets & I'm good for a couple of years at the pace I'm shooting now & I can slow down & make it longer.
  5. Glad I'm on the east coast , but ya never know about these storms . They won't know where its going for a while & we know how they can shift with out much notice. The Snipers are normal now a days , for these type of events.
  6. It is my experience that most gas blocks ( non A2 front sight types ) do not allow for the spacing for the A2 hand guard end cap . I measure all the gas blocks I install for gas port placement & if you take it for granted that you can adj. them for that gap , you may be partially blocking the barrels gas port , which may hinder rifle action function . A proper size drill bit & a dial caliper to measure the distance from the drill bit to the shoulder & same for the gas block , measure from the shoulder seating end ,to the drill bit placed into the gas port of the gas block & you will know if you can leave that gap or not . Most gas block ports are larger in dia. than there corresponding port in the barrel & may be able to work with out any function problems , but you never know . Range reports please. I do like my 16" 308 , just too busy with every one elses rifles to enjoy her enough .
  7. Come to think about it , it is hard to hold ! <lmao> I fixed it .
  8. Reverse sociology , they didn't expect that & the other LEO needs to visit the gym once in a while <laughs>
  9. Mine is in my 24 ", 5.56 Ar now , moved from the 16" 308 & its down to 5 1/2 # pull & nice drop ,very little creep. I shot 53 gr. Barnes , TXS 's under 1" in lightning & thunder with gusting winds yesterday. I got set up & bam, bam, bam , still got two five shot groups before it started pissing heavily . Nice trigger system , not like all the big boy's ($$$ ),but nice battle trigger & I will pick another up for the 16" 308.
  10. I think all of the ones I have put on , butt right up to the shoulder . I'm sure there are some out there that don't though. B.A.D . safeties Interesting barrel modifications. There are people that say a 16" bbl. & rifle length gas system won't work . Strange , mine works . <munch>
  11. & less flame <laughs>
  12. I would think the DPMS receiver extension is a commercial type & if you want to keep it the way it is , just make sure you get the commercial size Magpul stock & it should go right on . Measure the tube dia . to make sure . 1.17" ( comm.) or 1.14 " ( mil spec ) I & most here prefer the mil spec receiver extensions (buffer tube) because of better thread fit in lower receiver, but the Commercial one is fine, I just don't use them any more . We all know a heaver buffer & spring will make the rifle function better , but a good muzzle brake will help in recoil . Both would be a good combo .
  13. The CMP are arsenal refinished or refurbished or could be new & unfired rifles & top notch from what I've seen , but the last one I saw was a long time ago , don't think they have changed though .
  14. I think every one reads too much into the ejection patterns of these rifles , but there are instances that the ejection pattern reads some thing . 5159_.pdf
  15. How does your chamber look inside , if its rough (notorious for some DPMS rifles ) it could be holding the fired case in too long . The extractor was probably weak , it happens when you mass produce them . Whats with the set back rounds , whats the story on those , neck tension, do you use any kind of crimp , too long of COL & they jammed into the barrel extension ?
  16. It will speed things up I guess . I still use the by hand method & you do get hand & finger fatigue if you do a lot of cases . I just " try" to stay away from motorized equipment , just me . I still use my RCBS deburring tool & its over twenty years old , I guess I should start saying over thirty years old , for most of my reloading tools .
  17. Yes & they are nice .
  18. Loc tight was a good idea , I used it on mine & it has never moved. Electrical tape on the spanner works to keep from scratching anything .
  19. Ya know , I have not shot her in a while . I put NM sights on her many years ago & they help , but I just don't remember what kind of groups . I have not shot one that didn't shoot well , though. I will post some targets after I get out to the range next . And get this , I have had the 1903A3 for over twenty years & have never shot it . You did notice the org. type "C", non straight line stock on the my 03 .
  20. I still have some in a blue box , if I remember correctly & it was Berdan primed & mildly corrosive . Just clean your rifle when done shooting corrosive ammo & it should be fine . I personally only buy boxer primed , because I'm a reloader.
  21. You have to pull down on the spring loaded release latch rod , that disengages the collapsible stock for it to telescope on the receiver extension. Pull down & pull stock off, some can be quite stiff.
  22. Damn , we sure don't want the $hit in there !
  23. The little 30's are quite tame & fun to shoot . Wish I could spend more time on the 300BLK right now.
  24. Nice , what do you think of the Wilson hand guard ? Have you popped any primers with her yet ?
