  1. Foster had some problems with the early dies , maybe he got a bad set . I like Redding dies . but Foster got the spec's for the dies from AAC/Remington from the 300blk chamber reamer . I'm not saying the others won't work (other reloaders are using them ),but they are for a different caliber & its chamber spec's.. I didn't order Foster dies because they were in the middle , I ordered them because they are designed for the 300blk chamber. Not 300 whisper or 300/221,300 fireball or the other names . The 300blk is close to those above ,but different, that is why I ordered them . There will be those who argue that its the same 300 whisper caliber ,but its not, close but not . It is made to SAAMI spec's which any one can make the ammo or barrels . Early Noveske barrels are not 300BLK chamber , they are 300 fireball.
  2. Some times . Depends on how the rifle is set up . I reload & if the ammo is on the high pressure side the brass will have a short life . I would not worry about the dents ,if they don't size out ,they will shoot out .
  3. And so it starts. The shooting by some wacko in Arizona & this is what you get . The uniformed ,uneducated ,use mass histaria to push this stuff through. Look what's going on in Illinois. "Never let a good crisis go to waste "
  4. I take it that, that's not good for the firearms owners in that state. I read about what the Attorney Generial is trying to do & its pure intimidation on the states part . Why don't we just make it public on who has money & jewels at home so the thieves don't go to the wrong hose & waste there time . Its "the Chicago way" , with BO in the lead.
  5. What gas length set up, is up to you & if GA said mid , they know more about it than I do . The normal gas system for a 20" bbl. is a rifle length . Now when you go to a 18" the mid length would be more in line & as you go to a 16" the carbine gas system is the norm . I have a 20" & a 16" & both have a rifle length gas system & work fine . Its up to you. You will find that if you go with a different set up than whats normal , you may need to tweak things . Like a different Buffer or its spring ,lighter/heavier bolt Carrier group & so forth. Hell ,some times you have to tweak it any way. If they are building it ,than that's there responsibility to get the rifle to operate properly.
  6. Nice job . I aways wanted to bow hunt Elk.
  7. From what I have been reading , the Foster dies are made to 300blk spec's . There is a neck tension issue with other dies that are made for other calibers (300 whisper,300/221, etc.) I saw a chart on them some where in my research & the Redding dies gave more & I think the Hornady dies were less neck tension . It could be all solved if Redding made there "S" type sizing die for this caliber. I ordered my 300 dies from a place called, Gun Stop & if it goes through ,there is a good deal less $$ than ordering them directly from Foster . You can use loading data from the 300 whisper(or its copy's ) for the 300blk because basically the same cartridge except for the throat length in the barrels chamber. I found that Brownells has a fail zero charging handle I will pick up next week with my hand guard (still not sure which one I want ) I also can't wait for load development . Pacific tool & gage make the head space gages for the 300blk. I emailed them because it doesn't show up on there chart. Update ,I just ordered all three head space gages for $81 +shipping . I said what the hell , I need them & may be able to help others with them . I have them for the other calibers .
  8. I like it also . Looks like its got beef in the right places. The only ones I hear of breaking is when some one drops the hammer on it when the upper is off or shot gun ed. I think that can also break the pin support . Have not heard of one breaking on a AR 308. You can paint it ,if you don't like the color .
  9. I believe Armilite uses different length gas tubes ,but the Bolt carrier is basically the same as DPMS & should work . The gas tube you use will be determaned by where your gas port is on the barrel .
  10. I can see it now , shop lifter sues Wally world for being roughed up while being disarmed ,after threatening employee's with a hand gun . Bad employee's, bad . I'm going to let them know ,that the little business I do with them is at an end .
  11. My self ,personally , I use only M16 bolt carriers in my AR15's . Since this caliber uses normal M16/15 parts ,except for the barrel , the M16 Bolt carrier ,with its increased weight will help functionality with all the different ammo configurations. I have never used an AR 15 BC in one of my builds . I ,as you have read ,have an early M16 BCG to use ,but am having second thoughts about using it . Not because its an M16 carrier ,but I may want to use a chrome or Fail Zero BCG in it . The only thing that bothers me about that is , which will have the best compatibility with the NP3 coating. I will have to ask POF what they use or think. It will still be an M16 BCG & not an AR 15. I still need a charging handle & the hand guard & of course ammo or the ability to make it. They say the Dies should be in this week . I thought they were in stock ,but I missed that boat . If they are not sent by Friday , I have another place to get them . I also have to see about head space gages ,at least a go gage to start out with . As far as the added attention at the range , I get quite a lot with the AR 308's I have .
  12. The reviews look good ,except for that one ,with the Pmag coming apart.
  13. Can you identify any thing different in it than a DPMS BC ?(other than the material ) Have you done a side by side comparison ? It looks nice & may be stronger than the normal BC. & that may be worth the price.
  14. So , we went through this fitment stuff about the SASS bbl. & its not what we thought , its the fitment of the gas block on the barrel . They change the gas block dia. on the barrel to only fit there gas block ,brilliant !, Makes me want to buy one of there SASS bbl's. ,not !
  15. Well I found a set of 300BLK dies & ordered them . Now I need some head space gages also. I think I changed my mind about a hand guard . I think I will get a Troy Battle Rail in mid length. I looked at the Vtac (was what I wanted ) & they are asking more $$ for it than the Carbine or full length rail, what's up with that . Well, I wanted something different , so be it .
  16. Nope . If you look at the photo with the measurements above , the taller rail is the normal one before they(DPMS) made it lower & of course the lower one is the new version .
  17. To my knowledge , AR 15/16 & AR 308 's use the same springs . Maybe Armilite uses some thing different , not sure .
  18. Well, yes !
  19. I have not made a decision on the hand guard . Will probably go with the Vtac in a mid length as was my first choice(sure like the one I have on one of my 308's ) . I may make a special order with JP to have them Duracote it in the Titanium color . That might look cool with the NP3 color, just not sure yet. No ammo around yet ,so I will be going the reloading from the start. plenty of places to buy brass & dies . You don't even need 300blk dies ,there are others you can use with the same spec's . I see Redding has them & Foster of course has had them ,but I have heard of some bad dies from them out there . That may have bee taken care of already. I will probably just get the dies & make my own brass. I still have not got much loading data yet ,but will when I order the dies . I am going to get the upper done & test fire & work up loads on one of my assembled lowers while I'm putting together the lower & stock assembly. My Magpul sights are back ordered ,but ordered. Gen.II rear sight.
  20. DPMS ,I believe makes a good rifle for the most part ,but if I need any part ,I will be looking else where for it .They may think going proprietary is going to keep them in sales ,but they are wrong. The good thing about the way it was before is, you could customize there rifles with what you wanted ,now it seems , you have to do it with there parts. They may think its a good position for future sales ,but it not . Turns too many away. Its like ,why not make a chrome lined barrel ? They would sell more if they did ,but don't have one ,why ? Luckily ,other manufactures are making components ,that only DPMS used to make in the past . I want to see more manufacturers make bolt carrier groups made out there though . Its nice SI Defence is going to come out with one .
  21. My CMMG lower will not work very good with the Pmags. Works fine with Cproducts & DPMS. As has been said there is no std in 308's like there is with the M16/15 family & that should be expected because the M16/15 family of rifles are all set up as milspec ,so they will all adhere to a set standard of spec's . The 308 versions are not set to any milspec standard. That is changing a little as these rifles evolve. I guess I can't expect the CMMG lower to except a mag. that was not available when it was designed . Although I also had to modify the Bolt Catch for it to work also & that as far as 308 Bolt Catch's, is a standardized part ,even if you used one from the M16/15 rifles . That, I can blame on out of spec lower or since they did not make uppers or complete rifles in 308 at the time ,there was no way of them proof testing there lowers with them . When assembling a rifle you have to fit certain parts, that's what gunsmithing is all about .
  22. If you can build that, than you won't have a problem with an AR . A lefty is no different . That ejection thing, you just have to get used to it. Everyone should be practicing with the weak hand also . Even your side arms should be practiced both ways ,just not as much. My wife is also a lefty & she has learned to fire right handed ,both in AR's & hand guns.
  23. Ambidextrous controls. Mag release, bolt catch etc.. If you have a side charger ,well ya will have to get used to it ,in a righty world . The std charging handle of an AR is ambidextrous. Its latch can be manipulated with ether hand .
  24. Good man & we didn't have to triple dog dare ya .
  25. My next 308 build will be SI defence , matched set. I have one of there gen. II uppers on one of my 308's, very good quality & I think Imschur has the same upper .
