Factory Ammo or reloads ?

I would have said something , thats bad practice to point a firearm at anything but the Targets . He should have been reprimanded & I would wonder if he should continue as a Range Safety officer . If front of the people who were not to experienced in firearms & this DOO DOO showed them the wrong thing to do !

Hope its a 308 Bolt Catch's or it may fail, Ar 15 ones will somewhat work or not work at all on 308AR's.
-
My first in FDE , my 16" 308 has FDE stock & Pistol grip , but never went this far, am I doomed

The Rifle will probably loosen up a bit after break in . five hundred rounds or so & thats not an AR 10 Pictured , its an Aero DPMS Pattern Rifle , no biggie , it shows the BCG , like 98 said , sure looks close in the one photo . We will be expecting a range report

This is just using maps as a navigation aid ,to be used when no GPS will be available . Like carrying topo's with you & navigating with a Compass . I have a place where I hunt in Ohio ,in a valley that I have no cell , so GPS will not work , but I know the area like the back of my hand & anywhere you walk a half a mile & you hit a road of some kind . There is also a cool software to plot your tree stands you have set up & gives wind direction , temp.at them , but them guys up there are always moving the stands , so hard to keep up with the ones they move . I think we have almost thirty stands up , maybe more by now .

Got your attention , I have an old AR that I'm beginning to replace worn old parts & though I would share some this late seventies built AR 15 components that are showing their age after almost forty years of service . This Rifle is built mostly of Olympic Arms Components , some mil surplus , because they were not many building in those times , Olympic Arms was one of a few who had Receiver sets or Match Hand Guards , I have on this Rifle one of the first types that came out . The HG is the Barrel Nut , one piece all Aluminum & I even have an all Steel one , that is a bit heavy for use , but some day make a complete Upper out of . I'm changing out the Buffer system , new Buffer ( Rifle ) & its Spring , The Photo shows how the Buffer Spring on the left , has a slight bend , unlike the new one on the right . I see anything but a straight Spring , I replace it . These , as with all other Components are original from the build date , The FCG is G2S & I installed a Flat top TM Upper , to install a scope , she has had & only been shot with A2 sights from the beginning ,until I went with the FT of course . This photo shows is of the Buffer , notice its designed a little different & also notice the Discoloration of the Bumper at the end . The Rifle

I ordered this today to swap the Barrel ,BCG Stock , Lower Parts of the 25-45 Sharps to & also going top use one of the new Tactical Machining 2nd Amendment Lowers for it . I have plans for the BRO Receiver set . . Its a Hunting Rifle type so I figured the Aero FDE upper would look better & I wanted a HG to cover the Gas Block anyway , we will see how she shoots . On sale this weekend for $ 189 & free shipping , I just couldn't pass it up ,

Out with the old ; New is good , all bumping is gone . Going to put some Red & Tacky in that Zerk tomorrow .
-
Interesting, I can see use for that .
-
I think thats a coating on the Splines & is not removed , at least it doesn't say to remove it . I will find out when I put it together today . Notice the Zerk on the slip shaft end The red arrow is pointing at it .

I have had Cartridges like the middle photo , Ejection issues or short stroke & the bottom of the Bolt Carrier stripping the Case from the mag instead of the Bolt Face . I pull the Bullet , save the Powder charge , re-size the case without de-priming it & reload the round . then shoot the dents out , GTG. I had a BCG made by a reputable manufacturer & had to swap out their Ejector Spring for a factory DPMS one & it fixed the ejection issue . Sometimes its the Extractor itself or too heavy of spring pressure , some install two O-rings with the Extractor Spring & it can cause issues . When you get something like this , you have to play Detective to solve it .

I the Libturds will not like this & you won't see it in the MSM . http://www.breitbart.com/2nd-amendment/2017/07/26/man-defeats-top-smart-gun-tech-15-worth-magnets/

Yes that would help , If you could remove it & take measurements .
-
Yes ,they normally do .

Or something in the Gas system , Block could have out of spec passages or an alignment issue with the Gas Adjuster or switch ,also could be binding of piston rod or Piston . I have seen Pistons bind when warmed up & bending Piston Rods .Still could be in the Buffer system or something slowing down the BCG . The Gas Port size was my first thought also on both of these rifles . JT , they replaced the Gas System & BCG & it didn't change anything ? I can see the Rifle having issues when used firing suppressed for extended periods , but 100 rounds is kinda low , but suppressed weapons are really not all that reliable for extended firing periods , in my experience , they need constant maintenance to keep them running with out issues . If the rifle is under warranty , send it back till they fix it . There really is no difference in the Piston & DI systems as far as what the purpose is , its to cycle the Action for ejection of the spent case , thats all they do , one is direct linked mechanically with Piston & a connecting rod to force the BCG to extract the spent case from the chamber & the DI does the same thing , only with direct spent Propellant gas pressure to accomplish it. Both rely on the proper amount of Gas pressure from the Barrels Port to do this . Both systems have pro's & con's , with DI its the direct Gas of spent propellant into the Action & with Piston systems , its more moving components & weight , though they seem to be not much , they still both need the proper amount of spent propellant gas ( Gas signature ) to function. The issue with weak ejection can be several things & if it locks back the Bolt on last round in the Mag.every time ( if it has this feature ), its not short stroking , more likely an Ejector issue or could be the Extractor is holding on to the spent case too long or more likely too much Extractor pressure on the base of the Cartridge . I have an old 24" AR 15 , this rifle has so many rounds through it , I can't even guess , this Rifle I built some where around 1978 , rifle length gas system , DI & Rifle Stock , its just started an issue the last time I shot her for velocity testing a new Powder , the spent cases are just dropping out of the Ejection port , some , because I was Bench testing, were dropping onto my hand & the little batsiges were hot , The first thing I will do is change the Buffer Spring , to see if it changes , I will bring Bolt Components with me & change individual Bolt components to see where it goes . My plan is for doing this tomorrow , Friday , I would go today but have to sign for a FedEx package . Its difficult to trouble shoot an issue like these with out having a hand on the Rifle .

I have had two Dodge Trucks , loved my 1978 Power Wagon , but the 1986 Ramcharger had nothing but motor issues , screwed up two vacations in a row , never again . I went to Ford Trucks & never looked back , 1993 F350 Dually crew cab , we called it the Deer Hunters Limo. Traded it in on a 2003 F250 std Cab when I moved the Fla. , nice truck , but not enough room in the cab , to now ,I bought the then, brand new 2005 F150 Supercab , the only issue I had with any of them was the Twin I beam suspension wore out King Pins on the 1993 & the 2003 F250 , covered by warranty & no Vacations were interrupted . The only reason I would like to have a newer Truck is , I want four wheel drive , the Beach's I drive on have been restricted too many times to 4x4 only ,because of drifting & loose sand. I have been looking , but man , the sticker shock , even on used ones ! So will just run this one into the ground & not have a payment , sure is nice not having a auto payment . Replacing the Drive Shaft is preventive maintenance , doesn't really need it . 140K with out an issue , I say its a good truck.

No doubt there are different levels of how hard the Buffer hits , we have seen here , on this forum, them bending & breaking , But the photos you show are correct on how they mark the Buffer . I can't remember the one Receiver manufacturer that we had several issues like this , it was many years ago .
-
Weight depends on whats used to build it in that model , I would say normally anywhere between 8 - 12 # , the Barrel is most of it . There are some here building a lot lighter then 8#& of course more then that 12# figure also .
-
Have you ever had the complete Piston assembly off the Barrel , piston Block included ? Does the cyclic rate of the Action seem slower when this failure occurs , that you can tell ?
-
How is it different from a DPMS or Armalite AR 10 Catch ? If proprietary , only PSA ,
-
I hope its not hitting that Retention Pin when assembled , that would show there is an issue with Receiver fitment . If the first photo in your series is of the BCG in full battery , like it would be if a Cartridge is fully chambered & ready to fire , the BCG will push the Buffer off that Retention Pin & its only hitting when the Upper receiver is Shot gunned for cleaning & inspection .Easy to see when you close the Upper Receiver onto the Lower Receiver . When the Buffer hits that Retention Pin , it usually bends or breaks it , & yes we have seen that here , but not with Aero Receivers .
