  1. Naw , thats the way it works , you gave your review & he is off the hook , but "BK "still needs to give a review on the BBL.
  2. This 20" rifle has " 0 " issues from day one & its my first 308 Build , before I even knew about this Forum . As I said , I think many factors determine what works with which Gas Tube & this rifle is a prime example , I lost count on how many rounds have been through this rifle . I know I have some that are in the middle , but this reminds me of what Faxon Barrels said about their testing & changing of the Barrels Gas Port , just makes me think its just not all about Tube Length & not saying it won't help in some cases , but not all . About this Thread , the BCG not locking back can be a lot of things , but this rifle is functioning & having intermittent feeding issues , which could be the BCG not reciprocating far enough back to catch the base of the cartridge , it could be a gas system issue with short stroking , but i my experience if this was the case , the feeding issue would be more frequent , not just about every twenty rounds . The Barrels Gas Port should be sized , as I have already posted , the Spring is defiantly suspect & should be replaced ( Tubb's Flat wire Spring is a progressive type Spring & will smooth out any AR Action ) , the Gas Block has been checked three times , so we have to assume its not the issue . The Magazine brand change is easy & inexpensive to try , because if the Mag is not sitting high enough in the mag Well ( & we have seen a lot of this lately ) it will cause this same issue . Another thing or two can be checked , one is the Bolt Catch , is it for an 308AR & is not interfering with BCG Travel , os it resting deep enough in it cut in the Lower Receiver , also sometimes the Hammer interference can slow the BCG down , the back of the Hammer can hit the Disconnector & put pressure on the bottom of the Bolt Carrier. Try one thing at a time , to me the Buffer Spring would be first , then Magazine , then check the Barrels Gas Port size & we can compare with the info we have seen in the past & we have seen quite a few that were too small to operate the Action properly. Good luck , isn't this fun , I think its why the 308AR is a real build .
  3. The Rule ! If no one has experience with this Barrel & can give a review , with in a certain time limit , you have to purchase it & give us a review . Just a way to have fun with new guys, kinda like entrapment , if you would have kept it to "I kind of dig the looks of this one." you would of been OK Looks good to me .
  4. Looks OK . Just run her wet & maybe she will break in past this annoying issue . I know it drove me crazy sometimes , I can't stand it when things don't work right .
  5. I am more inclined to use a Nitrated BCG anymore , but have a Chrome & NIB BCG 's that are working fine in the 308AR . Fulton Armory & Criterion Barrels are made for the DPMS pattern 308AR .http://www.fulton-armory.com/barrelfatitan185nmmedss1x10936gasblock.aspx JP's Barrels are Good Here are some more to look at , http://www.jsesurplus.com/308.aspx
  6. Progressive Dillon 550B press , if you load a lot , other wise a new Rock Chucker will do anything . That a quite a bit of Play in the old press, since I got the MEC , I have regulated my old Pacific to Tools , like Bullet pulling , Primer pocket Swaging of mil spec brass & so forth . I also have a Dillon 550B , RCBS Green Machine & an old Lee 1000
  7. Criterion or Fulton Armory . You want something like this , below .
  8. My thinking is , if it was the Gas Tube , Port size or Buffer Spring ( that Buffer spring is suspect also ) , you should see an issue with the action more often. I have changed my thinking on the Gas Tube penetration also , my 20" HB has never had an issue & I just gave it a look over & found this , in the photo below . Not saying its not needed to be in the middle of the Cam Pin cut , because it would depend on Gas port size , Gas system length & other factors . Start with the different Mag . , Magpul has two LR PMags , the original ( I guess you could call it the first Gen. ) & then they jumped right to the Gen. 3, they made changes to the Gen.3 & it puts the Cartridge higher into the Upper for a better feeding approach. I have a thread around here with measurements , because I had anearly CMMG Lower Build that would not function reliably with the org. LR PMag, but worked with all brands of Metal Mags & the Lancer L7's , then when they came out with the Gen. 3 PMag , it worked also. ( I had the same type malfunction , more often then every twenty rounds ) . The Mag will be marked as a Gen 3 , the original will not have that designation . The Mag Catch has helped others here & is also inexpensive to replace , but you have to make sure its a Armalite product ,AR 10 Catch , I think its a kit with the Spring & Mag release Button .
  9. Maybe they think its Galling or something to that effect , two dissimilar finishes . Hey if she works & your happy , go for it , but if the wear continues or you start having Failures , you need to do more research . Its just the low round count , shouldn't show this kind of wear or the signs of it .
  10. Interesting , I remember a member here sending an Aero complete Upper back , because of some issues & they said the Receiver was tweaked or something like that . Wonder if yours is too . I can't believe that Charging Handle can mark the Finish up so quick , it may be part of the issue ,if its putting pressure on the BCG , hard to say .
  11. You didn't need to candy coat your feelings , just spit it out I think he, like a lot of people who serve so much time in DC , they forget what people like us have to deal with every day with the crap they put us through , I respect what he has been through , I wouldn't wish being a POW on anyone , he has my respect for what he had to go through , but at the same time he has lost too much respect for what he has done in the Senate , if this is how we get Term limits , its ok with me , get out & I hope you have a long life out of Politic's .
  12. I don't like the looks of the Buffer Spring , not saying thats your issue , but it just looks limp , could possibly be binding. Try different brand Mag , DPMS's metal or Lancer L7. Are the MagPul's Gen 3 Mags ? Another thing that could help is a Armalite AR 10 Mag Catch , it has a larger Pad to hold the Mag in place more securely .also the threaded stem is longer for Receivers that are wider .( bottom )
  13. Spring Coil count is a little off , should be 29 coils ( every single ( real ) DPMS Buffer spring I have counted has been 29 ), I count 27 Coils on that spring , you are close, also looking at that spring it looks out of shape ,could probably be weak . Hand loads or Factory ammo ? What Magazine Brand ?
  14. I assume its a Carbine stock system ?
  15. Could be a Rough Chamber , whats a fired , ejected case look like ? Here are two 308AR's with several thousand rounds through each of them , I don't care what finish you have on your Receiver , those marks are excessive to me . I also I looked at three Nitrated BCG"s & none showed any wearing off of the Nitrating. I can't really say about two of them , one is in a POF NP 3 Upper Receiver , one is in a BRO Norguard coated & one is in a Tactical Machining Upper & has the Hard coat Anodized with Dry Film applied , so they may not be good representative of how it should wear inside the Upper . Two different 308AR rifles , one is a Tactical Machining 308AR Upper , the other is a DPMS Upper .
  16. What may brand are you using ? Trying a different brand , like a Lancer L 7 , a DPMS metal Mag., or others . If the BCG or any other Action component is slowed down , be it lack of Lubricant or friction , short stroking can happen & cause a Bolt over , also could be Barrels Gas Port size , wrong Gas Tube length , wrong or mismatched Buffer Components.
  17. Barrel Manufacturer ? Gas System ? ( You can also use drill bit index to measure as close as you can the Barrels Gas Port ) Stock type ? Length of inside or Receiver Extension ( Buffer Tube ) Measure length of Buffer Spring & Coil count ? Measure length of Buffer & weight ?
  18. Sorry to hear this . RIP
  19. Nitrated , only 100 rds. , interesting . Your reciprocating components should show break in wear, that would be normal , not sure of the Nitrating & its wear , I have to do some looking ,may be normal .
  20. Is that like a Bazillion ? I would like to see others who have Cerakote on their Upper Receivers & what they look like , photo's anyone ?
  21. I think you right about the round count , but thats not a reciprocating component , just how many times do you pull the Charging handle back to do that & if that tab at the top of it is rubbing that much , it could be binding the BCG . Not while the action is in recoil from firing , but just pulling the Charging handle back . I don't have any Creakoted firearms , so can't say one way or the other if this is posed to happen , even with a 100 round count , I don't like it & I don't see any wear anything like that of the AR's I have with thousands of rounds through them . I will make a inspection of all my AR's , thats a job
