I find it interesting your Case Head Space Gage passed the Brass before . If your case gage is not to believed , Chambering & Extracting is the only alternative , besides checking the Cases on another gage . I used the Chambering /Extraction method for many years with out issue , till this year with Military once fired brass & not my first time with that type of brass ether . I did look up the instruction for the Hand Press . I can tell you , it doesn't take much in the form of Shoulder set back to cause an issue . As I alluded to before , some Shell Holders cause an issue with not enough Shoulder set back , no matter how you set the press up . Bottom line is , if Factory ammo works & your Hand loads don't , its your reloading process , in one form or another .

Sig and New Jersey at odds.

The story never did mention any type of ammo change to see if it was ammo related . I see a bunch in the comments section also spoke of ammo as the probable cause of this issue . I think there is more to this story ! -
Or if the rifle was stored in an air conditioned space ( home , Auto ) before the range ,its possible it could be condensation formed when brought out into the heat . You need to first actually determine what it is , water ( moisture ) or separation of the Lubricant as described above .

For function testing of a new build /Rifle or upgrade, I would want the best known cycling ammo I have or know, only because you are function testing components , not ammo . If you put some cheap ammo through a new build & it has issues , you will be looking at not just the rifle components for causes , but them & the ammo, best to eliminate one before you even begin , that way you know their is a better chance of a component issue ,or mechanical issue , then wondering if its the $hit ammo . Plenty of time to play with the cheap fodder later to see how it functions in a known functioning action .

It could have been I agree , its a hand held Lathe & Milling Machine in one , if used correctly Spell check sucks !

I went in the one around here & was not impressed with any of the deals . I was in there last month & I think they had better sales , but their stuff is all over priced anyway . -
Scalarworks fixed sights.

Its that with both W & E in the Rear Sight , you don't have to reach forward to make a separate adjustment , it can all be done at the rear sight . A little more convenient , its why they designed the A2 rear sight . -
I made my own feeder paddle & its been working for about a week with out a Jam , something the originals never did . It seems to throw it farther out also . I made a pattern & marked it out on some galvanized Sheet metal I have laying around , cut it out with my Dremel Tool ( Robocop would be proud ) & bent it on my Vice , centered a hole for the screw & checked balance like I do for my Drone prop's & away its been going . I think I made the tolerances a little tighter & no Corn has jammed yet . Now lets see how long it works

Try both Brands if you have not added that extra 1/4" to the set up , which is in the instructions , I looked at them yesterday . Even if it doesn't cam over , the extra 1/4" makes sure you have room to take up any play in the Press & the proper Shoulder set back . If you have time , see what I went through with my new MEC Marksmen Press ( its here in the Reloading section ) , It doesn't have a compound linkage for the Ram , like most single stage presses & I set the Press up to touch the Shell Holder to the bottom of the Die & I had the same issue you have . I thought there was no play in the straight Linkage ,because it will not or can not , Cam over , but there was a little play & it was just enough to not set back the shoulder properly & I'm only talking about a Thousandth of an inch , very small ,I thought the Shell holder was touching the bottom of the Die , but wasn't , I had to force it just a little to fit the LE Wilson Case Gage , that I bought later to make sure it was right . I also had to find the right Shell Holder for me to do so also & it was a Lee I had , the Two RCBS Shell holders , I have ,will not permit the case to be set back enough . I did trim one about 0.004" that works also .

Nice ! Ya, windage & Elevation would have been nice in the rear sight . -
I like those two songs & I'm an old fart . Always makes me wonder what goes through anyones mind to kill them selves , such a waste of talent .

Try different manufacturers Brass first . I just re read your first post & read you set a much shorter COL & it did the same thing , so probably not the COL , I load mine about the same COL . Starting to sound like a Brass issue , but still , I would look further into the Shoulder set back .

-Too long of Cartridge Overall Length for the Chamber -Your Brass needs a Small Base Sizer Die , try different manufacturers Brass -You may not be setting your Press up correctly , are you setting the press Ram so the Shell Holder is touching the bottom of the Sizer Die Body when sizing the Case ? The instructions may not say this , but its a good way to make sure you have the proper Shoulder set back . I have trimmed down RCBS Shell Holder for my MEC press , I have a Lee Shell Holder works with out trimming or cutting down . Believe it or not , all Brands of Shell holders are not made to the same spec's , close ,but not all the same . -Sized , Trimmed , unloaded Case should easily chamber & extract .

Just ordered Ramshot - X-terminator Powder Hodgdon -H335 Powder And Speer 87 gr. hot core Bullets We will see how these work also . I also used some Remington Bench rest Primers , just for comparison to the CCI's .

That can happen on a small case like .223 , pretty hard to do on a 308 , but anything is possible . I would size a Case & with out a Bullet & see if it chambers & Extracts OK , that may tell you something about what is going on . If the empty case has an issue , then you know its a sizing issue , if it feeds & Chambers & you can unlock the Bolt normally , you need to look elsewhere .
-
This issue sounds like the same thing I got when I bought the New MEC single stage press last year , & found I was not setting the Case Shoulder back enough . I now use LE. Wilson Case Gages . Even though I reloaded for almost forty years with out them & never had an issue till I got this new Press , I had to find a Shell Holder that permitted proper Shoulder set back . Might also be you have some play in your Press & its not forcing the Shoulder to the proper set back . You gage may not be telling the whole truth & it wouldn't be the first time . The Lee Had Press is a Great little tool , but may not be for a Large Caliber case . Just one more thing to look into .I just read about someone had a Hornady Case Gage that was showing incorrectly .

LR243 Gas System Adjustment and Buffer Spring Selection
survivalshop replied to BIGTRUCKNUT's topic in Building a .308AR
This is some Port sizes for you to ponder for the 308 , which would be close to the 243 & are used for the 243 also . I guess if you had an 18" barrel with a Carbine Gas system , you might of been OK . Oh & these are secret , so you didn't see them ! Modifications for beginners.

First its a DPMS G 2 & this new platform from DPMS has very little in the way of after market components available for it , its a down sized LR 308AR . From what we have been reading , it's a good shooter as is , be as has been said , stock triggers ( Fire Control Group ) on just about every AR rifle you purchase from the factory has a Lawyer built into it .Most are horrible for any kind of precision work , the FCG replacements mentioned will make for a more precise control with out the Creep, grittiness of most stock FCG's . You may like the Factory FCG , but a FCG upgrade can do wonders for group size for most shooters . Get used to the Rifle for a while & Optics will make for a more precision shooter also . Most Scope Mounts are not all that good for using the Iron type sights on your rifle & have the scope mounted at the same time , unless you use a Red Dot sight or something similar to be able to sight through it with the Iron sights. You only have twenty rounds through the Rifle , run some more Ammo through her , try some match 168gr. ammo & see how that works , these big bores seem to all run well with that weight of bullet . As far as a Thread or something for beginners , this Forum is full of them & you just started another one . There are some Threads on the DPMS G2 around here somewhere . -
If it fits correctly into the Case Gage , yes the Case is sized correctly for case head space. You should always Trim the cases to Trim length , you can get away with out doing it in some Chambers , but you never know with some Brass & its thickness after sizing . Another thing is , what Sizing Die do you have , Full Length or Small Base ? A FL will work in most cases , but not all Chambers are a like , some fired Brass , from some manufacturers may not Size the same & need the SB Die . Size & Trim a Case & Chamber it & see how it reacts , you can also try one of your untrimmed Cases also. I load a lot of 155gr. Hornady match Bullets & as long as they are trimmed & the Shoulder is set back correctly , your COL is fine .

You will get Bolt Locking Lug marks when cycling loaded ammo with out firing it , Bullet scraps along the locking lugs on the way out . Trim Brass to 2.005" & make sure Bolt locking Lugs are well lubricated . If rife is new Build or just a new rifle , things will be a little tight . Needs to seat components in. Was Head Space checked or is a factory rifle ?

LR243 Gas System Adjustment and Buffer Spring Selection
survivalshop replied to BIGTRUCKNUT's topic in Building a .308AR
A proper size wood dowel rod in the Barrel when drilling is a good safety stop for the drill bit . Also if you have them or barrow them , a drill index set will get you close to a measurement on what you have & also do one step at a time , till you get what works & it should not be more then the measurement Robocop stated. Just seeing what Gas Port size you have may give some answers to what is going on . -
Not even sure those numbers are correct , I did get one or two & in some loads ,three in a row that were all with in a range , then I would get a reading of 4600+fps & that screwed all the ES & SD up . Magnitospeed instructed me to adj. the sensitivity setting on the the program for the smaller Caliber .That could be why when I tried it once on a 5.56 bbl. , it was wacking out the same way . The 3031 & 4895 are not going any further , they are slightly compressed load already ( maybe with much lighter Bullets ) . I'm not going to pursue those Powders any further with this Bullet. The WC 846 seems to show it going in the right direction .
