Press is in UPS's hands & got a call from an engineering company for MEC this morning & talked about my issue , I told him I may have found the issue & it may not be the Ram . When I removed the Press from the bench I got to looking at the Threaded insert for the Die's , that is pressed or something into the Casting of the Press Body & it looks Cocked in the Press casting . Don't know if it moved or was that way from the get go .also has a wear mark right above that high side , like the Die Lock ring has worn a spot . He also told me he is going to pull a Press & give it a once over before they send it to me today .

For most builders , it would be wise to purchase a Head Spaced Bolt with the Barrel you order or Purchase . I don't trust a some of Barrel makers any more , its the House hold name ones you can believe the Barrels are properly Head Spaced , still good to check . Also some Coatings on some Bolts have seen issues with hindering or causing HS to be off , even though the Barrel Maker's HS is correct from the Factory .

Whats real funny is , most of the Brass sized is dead on with my Concentricity Gage , some are way off , different brands , I find that odd . I have heard of issues with RCBS of late also , suppose to be made oversea's . I did get one of the first ones , the ones they sent to the writers , probably got the once over .

I have nothing but good experiences with the Fords I have & owned , I have had issues with GM & Dodge ( especially Dodge ) , though the 1978 power Wagon I owned was one of the best Trucks I have ever had . I wouldn't trade my 05 F150 for any of them . # 1 selling truck in the world, F150 , for a long ,long time , I guess its because they are junk !

What length gas system is the Barrel ? This is how it should look , we have seen some Factory DPMS Carbine gas systems that are close to yours & work , but its not right .

Makes me wonder about the Gas Port in the Barrel or Gas Block fitment . Separate the Upper from the Lower & Remove the BCG & take a photo of how far the Gas Tube protrudes into the Upper Receiver . I count 37 coils from your photo .

Just pulled my DPMS Rifle Buffer system Spring length --12 1/2" long Coil count ----- 39 ( AR 15 Rifle has about 43 coils ) Buffer length ----5 5/16" long ( AR 15 Rifle Buffer 5 7/8 " ) Buffer weight ----5.4 oz.

Your not Crazy , the Barrel maker is & have you tried to remove them opposite of normal as they have told you ? If they are wrong , its not going to help your Sight removal . This doesn't help your 'Period Correct " rifle

Shims wouldn't help , AR Barrels Head Space is determined by the Barrels Chamber & Barrel's Extension Locking Lugs . Barrels Gas Port is the last thing installed after HS has been determined & set.( If installing an A2 ,Tapered Pin Front Sight , that would be the last thing after Gas Port installed ). Head space is measured from Bolt face , but Barrel Extension determines that .

WTF ? I guess I've been installing them wrong all these years , I'm beginning to wonder about some of these Barrel makers . 98 posted this on the link on the first page, here is a photo of which way a Milspec & every other A2 type sight I have ever worked on .

look something like this ? L If so , inspect the Ejector & Extractor & their Springs , change out the complete Spring & Ejector or Extractor one at a time to see which helps . Make sure the Components are 308AR , stay away from the Donuts , use DPMS Spring set up with Extractor . This particular Rifle all it took was changing out the Extractor & its Spring set up with a factory DPMS set up . Rifle functioned flawlessly after change out .

MEC is sending me a return label for shipping ( Email ) & when they get the Press back , they will send me a new one. Hope they look at it first .

Old Timer… The rain had stopped and there was a big puddle in front of the bar just outside the VFW. I have also been looking at Trucks & the Price of them have turned me right off , not to mention , its nice not having a Payment . My wife Mustang will be paid off this year & she wants me to get a new Truck , well its not going to happen , I'll put a new Motor or what ever it needs , before I buy another Truck . Unless I get a really , really good deal on a 4x4 ,which we know is not going to happen .

I don't get it , they got greedy , wanting to fill as much water as they could in that lake , then when it spilled over , decided to open the flood gates when the Dam started to over flow into an area that was not adequately designed to do so & when they stared to see the damage because of the over flow , opened the overflow gates that destroyed the spillway that was not kept up . Who inspected this Dam & who's idea was it to not keep it at a safe level ?

Unless you have a non-milspec set of Pins . (Remove -left , out to right , install -right , in to left ( ejection port side ) ) It may look like the small side is not where it should be , because there really isn't much of a Taper in the Pins , its hard to tell when they are installed . Use a med. size Hammer & use the proper size of punch to move them all the way out I just did a Colt Factory Rifle a month or so ago & it took a really good wack to release them , just make sure the Sight is well supported , have a helper if you need to steady the Barrel assembly .

Is the Barrel 1-7 twist rate ? Here is a Factory Colt Carbine I had to tweak the front sight a little to get it to be dead center , but it only helped a little , the Magpul rear sight is still over to the left a bunch , but not as much . Well I have found an issue with my new MEC press when installing my new Forster Match Seating Die . After setting the Die up & seating my first Bullet into a 308 Case , I felt the same type of rubbing as I did with the RCBS Die & found that the 308 Case was binding in the Die . If you look at the pictures of how a Forster Seating Die works , it has a spring loaded guide for keeping the Case & Bullet aligned in with the process of Seating the Bullet . It looks like the Ram of the press is not aligned with the Die , if I keep the Shell holder with the Case feed opening toward me , it binds& scraps the side of the case , if I turn the Shell Holder 180 deg. , so the opening to insert the Case in the Shell Holder is in the back , the Case is moved out or over to allow the Case to move or slide so as not to bind . After this I started to look it over a lot closer , & sure enough , that Ram will not line up with any Brand Die I own or Shell Holder for that matter . I tried four different Shell holder from three different manufacturers . I emailed MEC with my issue & will let update this thread . That will teach me to get one of the first ones off the production line . This is also probably why I was scraping the Bullets in the RCBS Die's Roll Crimp ring . Also brings back mrmackc 's words on his experience with MEC .
