I've been swabbing barrels out with Kroil after cleaning for few years now and noticed a difference in ease of cleaning after next shooting session .they don't seem to foul as bad...rifled slug guns especially ..plastic and lead practically wipe out...

Need help with a build
hobbesgunner replied to Cw434's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Burris PEPR mount is strong, light...Buckmaster 4.5-14 is a fine scope for the $$$$...4.5 might be little hi powered for deer in the woods..but 14 power let's you see out there a ways...check out Leupold Mark AR scopes...mid price range and they'll make custom bullet drop turret for whatever you shoot in it...they're calibrated for 55gr .223 out to 600 yds. -
I was looking at the. 260 first cuz already had an Encore in that caliber but wound up going with 6.5 Creedmoor ...almost identical case capacity and ballistics ..6.5 is shorter case so you can use the longer heavier bullets...not much but every bit counts when you have OAL constraints. I'd also read that the 6.5 feeds more reliably in an autoloader...That's probably neither here nor there ...more to do with mags than anything would be my guess...DPMS mags I have won't feed 2 in a row no how no way....mine shoots 140 Amax and 139 Normas best, both under. 50 inch at 100 yds...Sure you wouldn't be disappointed in either one

I've taken to the five shot grouping when working up new loads...but still log the best three shot group in book also...habit maybe..the smaller groups make you feel good :).....Save the ten shot groups for what I think is best load for bullet, just to verify. -

I'm, uh, how would you say, .."internet photographicaly challenged"....maybe one of kids could lower themselves to my level to show me . Photos on phone.just don’t know how to add to posting...this Droid is actually a great camera... -
Why shorter barrels may often be better - Article
hobbesgunner replied to imschur's topic in Accurizing the .308AR
I'm with bcg on this one.....just got that longer, heavier shoots farther, better stuck in my head.....don’t mind carrying extra pound or three...read article some years ago on barrel length affect on handguns. Started at 12" and cut 1" off between tests with no real difference in accuracy till 2"...velocity drop was considerable though....I just work with what I'm used to I guess. ;D -
What made you decide to move to the 308 AR/AR-10 Platform?

Laugh it up.......I had one of those, "I really like that Magpul slant grip I got at the flea market for $10 but don't have a gun to put it on :(", moments. -
It looks like GG&G parts with a little gizmo added to it......nope...not gonna tempt me....hope I don't see one at next gun show ::)
-
You guys are a bad influence .....on my wallet....never would have even considered dropping $200 on a bipod a few months ago...then name GG&G kept coming up in posts....and..... I made the mistake of pawing one over at gun show last weekend. Didn't take long to see what y'all are talking about...yes it's the sweetest prop stick out there...between that and another PRS stock I don't have any lunch money this week....or next week...or next....... :P

Nice lookin shooter....is that like the AP4 upper?? I'd like to get a short 308 upper to go with my LR 6.5. Yours looks like what I'm after........got a couple of those Burris mounts..really like em, clean lines, simple, strong mount. Haven't tried the on-off test yet but I bet they'd be awful close zero...
-
Finally got new brake screwed on Mini SASS build...looks cool as hell..more important is how it shoots...This thing RULES!!!! Smacking a 10 inch steel gong at 200 yds. bout fast as you can hit the trigger... I was a little hesitant trying out something new for $99,but they guaranteed satisfaction ....worth every penny. Hat's off to PWS for a great looking piece with excellent fit and finish....that works..... <thumbsup> <thumbsup>
-
That looks like a Rock River trigger...what's the difference? Is it adjustable?? Single or two stage? I've got a couple RR's in my rifles...with a little stoning they're fantastic, but not adjustable ....gotta be careful not to go too far...price is the big plus on them. $90-100 at gun show...

Noob question about oiling!
hobbesgunner replied to Schwansonite's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
AMSOIL 5-30 with a little Kroil to thin it down has worked well for me...Breakfree lubricant preservative works great too...its CLP without the C...doesn't have the smell either -
Natchez is a good outfit to deal with...Mid South Shooters supply, MidwayUSA are 2 I deal with most...compare prices and availability.....sometimes one is few dollars more but if it's in stock they get my bizz ...don't forget shipping $$$$$..There's 7000 grains in a pound. Pick your powder and charge weight, do the math... Thinking I got around 140-145 rounds per pound using BLC-2..buy an 8 pounded if your loading quantity...happy lever pulling ;D
-
Got a custom TC Contender done by Gary Reeder in 350 GNR...If I wanted to shoot it I had to start loading my own...no loaded ammo available....once i started,i was hooked...now i buy brass bullets and powder ..almost zero loaded...case of Wolf once in a while

Looking for a good first time 7.62 AR
hobbesgunner replied to AR_Addict's topic in General Discussion
DPMS rifles are a good start point. Handfull of models to choose from....Panther Sportical will probably be lowest price entry level gun.$800-$900 .LR series $1100-1200...The Remington R25 you see at Dicks and Gander Mnt. are made by DPMS, your paying little extra for a paint job..Guys I work with that have bought them say they're very accurate, reliable.......after that, sky's the limit on what you wanna spend and build.......Oh, and once you buy one, your gonna want another and another..So when it starts, don't say you weren't warned... :D....happy shootin and welcome to the club... -
Hard to beat RCBS ..quality equipment at reasonable price...pay a few dollars more at the start so your not replacing with better equipment later...and believe me you will...Redding makes the nicest dies in my experience, cost bit more but worth it..if loading volume Dillon is the name...I don't have one but friends that do tell me everything else is second best in a progressive

See one at gunshow in Pa. 2 weeks ago... Mini SASS and LRT SASS...$1695 and $1995 respectively ....just finished building a Mini SASS myself and wound up with a little under $1300 in it.. I would think you'd save a little building an LRT yourself also....(I'd pay a little extra to do it myself anyhow..but that's me..)if you have the means to do it...That way your not paying for any features you might not like or want to change.I went with Magpul grip, sights, BCM charging handle, Rock River trigger and PWS brake ...

There's an oufit in Kalifornia putting limiters in then pin and epoxy the base on...claim to be ban compliant....BATF had table at gun show this weekend. Woulda been good question for them..wish I'd thought of it then...been looking at Pmags for awhile trying to figure out a "legal" way to turn em into 10 rounders .

Has something to do with frequency ranges. When we get our annual hearing test they show us results in all ranges they test...I had a drop in one range about 15 years ago in left ear..got pretty good idea what frequency range. 357 mag is when touched off 4 ft.from left side. They tell us a normal conversation tone is what you lose first..

what do you install on your rail,s
hobbesgunner replied to 308reloaded's topic in General Discussion
I'm thinking of laser illuminator...not a targeting laser.we can't use them for any type of hunting. -
what do you install on your rail,s
hobbesgunner replied to 308reloaded's topic in General Discussion
Supposedly the green ones don’t spook animals..that's the line I was thinking along...claim to illuminate out 2-300 yds. ...NX something or other.can't recall without looking it up.. -
