Resurection because I dont want to start a new thread....but I saw this on the big AR forum and it turns my stomach. Hey all, Un-fun story to tell. 12sh years ago I bought my first AR15 and since then I have bought and sold many ARs. As of last week I had 2 lowers that were from pre-2016 and 2 lowers I purchased in 2017. Not knowing any better, I configured all for of them with bullet buttons, fixed stocks, muzzlebreaks and pistol grips. I then re-registered all the bullet button guns via the DOJ's website. Last Thursday at 8:30PM I received a knock at my front door and on the other side of it were 6 DOJ officers in full tactical gear with 3 unmarked Ford Explorers parked on the street. I live in a nice neighborhood full of $700k houses, so their presence was definitely noticed. I greeted them warmly and asked what I could do for them. They told me that I had registered my ARs on the DOJ website and they were coming by to verify what I had was what I registered. Thinking I was on the up-and-up, I brought them into my garage, opened my gunsafe, and allowed them to inspect my rifles. After a couple minutes, the officer in charge turned to me and said "good news is, you did everything like you were supposed to. You had AR15s with bullet buttons and you registered them like an honest citizen. Bad news is, you have configured 2 of your rifles illegally, and we are going to confiscate them for destruction." I was completely taken off guard as all 4 of my ARs were configured roughly the same way, the only real difference was barrel length, optic, and caliber. They all had the same muzzle break, the same stock, the same grips, the same free-float handguards, etc. etc. To the untrained eye, they all looked like the same gun. But, I was not aware of the changes that came in 1/2017. I asked them permission to remove my upper from the lowers to allow them to take the lowers and they refused. I asked them permission to remove my optics from the uppers and they refused. They took the guns exactly as they found them. I asked them if they had opened my safe and found the lowers sitting their with uppers/optics unattached, would they have taken the upper/optics and they said "no". Long story short...know the laws. And maybe leave your lowers and your uppers separate of each other while being stored. RIP to my AR10 and one of my AR15s...there goes $3k down the drain.

Your barrel is fine. I doubt a factory armalite barrel is holding anybody back. Triggers are personal. I like single stages. Cant go wrong with any of the big names, but you will need to try a few.

Internal depth of a carbine receiver extension is 7". You can probably get away with a bit on either direction and be fine. That doesnt mean its not wrong. I dont use wrong parts. This thread was about the internal depth of a standard AR15 carbine receiver extensions. there are other threads for AR10, VLTORA5, And Magpul extended extensions with measurements for those systems and the proper spring/buffer compatibility for each platform.

The proper name for a "buffer tube" is receiver extension. A correctly machined carbine receiver extension has an internal depth of 7". An incorrectly machined receiver extension with an internal depth of 6 7/8" should be thrown in the trash and replaced with a properly made part.

I just did an update on my post. 10x12 might work but that weight is pushing it. I only weigh 170 wet and depending on the day im basically cranking for about 9 hrs straight. Im already ringing my shirt out after shift and its just starting to heat up. Wondering if I might be ok with just a rear plate. Im more concerned about someone rolling up on me from behind. I try to stay pretty tuned up to anything in front of me. I have yet to be in a sketchy situation. I keep a game face on, I never look sloppy. I like to think that out of all the trucks rolling around this town, a scumbag will look at me and think "nah, not that guy, lets find someone else" but without the driver keeping an eye on exits and surroundings while im inside I feel a little naked.

I have a carrier now with 3A soft armor. It fits well and the pocket situation is just about perfect for all the junk I need. Ive seen some pretty thin composite plates but I dont know much about them. Id like something that could slide up between the carrier and the 3A to add a little more protection. There is a "pouch" inside the pocket that looks like it holds a 10x10ish hard plate? But it would need to be thin to slide in. EDIT: this thread got me to start researching around a little. What im looking for is ICW (in conjunction with) lvl3 plates. Seen some as low as 3lbs (alumina/aramid) and up to 6lb expensive ceramic. Thats pushing it on weight. I hump all day pretty much non stop. Added a pic to show what im working with since its gear wash day today.

Very interested in this brother. Transport companies are getting cheap and ive accidentally promoted myself to a 1 man courier position at work...meaning im alone on the truck. driving and jumping. I honestly dont feel totally safe in my soft armor but humping coin in AZ summer fully geared up is miserable as is. I really need a better armor solution that doesnt weigh a ton. Is the lvl III stuff thin enough to slide into a standard carrier with soft plates?

I have a Docter II german reflex sight. Got this used and had it on a pistol for a while. Its cosmetically rough but works perfect. Glass is probably the best in the game. These are battle tested and can be found mounted on acogs and service rifles all over the world. I dont have any packaging or any direct info since I bought it used. Far as I can tell its the 7moa dot version. this is a always-on auto intensity optic and the electronics work great. The intensity change is fast and seamless. It came with a dovetail mounting plate that I will throw in. I honestly dont know what it fits. It has a G stamped on it. Functions perfect. Glass is perfect. Scratches around housing (see pics, I can take more if you want them) included is optic, some screws, optic cover, dovetail mount plate. $125 shipped.

@98Z5V 2nd Amendment sports down here in tucson. Having some sort of anniversary sale until Saturday. They had RPRs for $799! lots of stupid deals. People were walking out the door with bundles of rifle boxes lol. I had to run out after I got the lowers or risk maxing a credit card.
