  1. Overall, I'd say aluminum. My PRI rails are relatively thick carbon reinforced with aluminum. The barrel nut interface is very solid. They don't wiggle at all. Probably run it over with a truck and won't hurt it much, but there's a weight penalty. I had a Clark customs tube and it didn't weigh anything, but I probably could have stomped on it and shattered it. I'm betting those super light MI or fortis rails are fine for normal use, but probably nothing extreme because of how thin they are. I had a Samson that was light and seemed. strong, but the barrel nut interface was lacking and I could actually flex it a few degrees at the muzzle end. My experience is limited, but I've come to think the way these attach to the receiver is a pretty important feature when I'm shopping around.
  2. I see psa has a middy with standard style handguards. Might be worth trying to email them to see if it's shorter than a standard AR handguard.
  3. These aluminum handguards are so damn light now I don't think you can save much by switching to carbon. The really light ones are just tubes with no provisions for rails. My PRI carbon rails weigh more than those Midwest rails, but I have a lot more confidence in the strength and rigidity of mine.
  4. For the record, none of this would have even come up if it wasn't for your "horsepower" thread. I still have no idea what that was about, but bragging about all the boards that booted you causes people to wonder about the reason. This isn't a normal forum. You don't have to break any RULES to get the boot, you just have to rub a handful of regulars the wrong way.
  5. Damn you guys lol. I have some research to do.
  6. I don't like the stand alone magnifier. They tend to be even heavier than the optic itself, and really make the gun top heavy. Don't think it needs to be fully variable either. On my 1-6, I don't imagine I'll ever use 2x-5x, you just need the 1x and the max. That elcan seems like the best idea out. But so damn expensive. Hmmm, what can I sell.....
  7. For those who have never served....few things make lower enlisted happier than seeing army equipment being catastrophically destroyed, and knowing you won't be getting a statement of charges for it.
  8. Didn't Rick flair die yesterday too? Don't really care on any account, just can't help but see it since its apparently pretty important news to the American people,
  9. Been thinking I need an acog in my life. Might trade off or sell one of my comp M4s. Just seems like a waste to not have any magnification on a 308.
  10. The gas port length is the same...but the receiver it is bolted to is not. Can't expect the handguard to work on both. Might get lucky though. ETA I don't think I've ever seen a factory built mid 308 with 2 pc handguards. This might be why

    Nice!
  12. I thought that just meant they were used up and replaced them.
  13. Nobody said trophy wives were cheap
  14. I know guys have had good luck with the UBR and slash heavy buffer set up, but I'm not sure about that JP.
  15. My DPMS mag fits nice, but didn't get a chance to try it out.
  16. If you can upgrade to the M-308 , it's worth it. Glass is really really nice.
  17. First thing I would try before I change anything is some better ammo. I've been seeing people complain about the newer ZQI ammo, Both here and on other forums. I think they may have lost a little quality. Probably directly related to demand. Buy a box of good stuff like FGGM and just bang through it so you can eliminate that variable. Just load one round to start with and see if it locks back. Do that a few times to eliminate gas system problems. If you are locking back you should be ok. Component wise, the UBR/JP setup stands out as something to look at, but I'd check the above before I messed with it.
  18. Whereas I think the machine has been an illusion for decades, and the marionette at the podium takes his (or soon to be hers) orders from upstairs. The boat may tack left or right, dem or republican, but it's always moving the same direction.
  19. Gonna need a little more info than receiver manufacturer to be any help.
  20. Can't say I've ever cleaned a muzzle device other than running the bore brush through it
  21. I actually just assume everything is bs at this point. If a gov. Study was released that said the sky is blue, I'd go get my eyes checked because I didn't see it as red,
  22. How does it measure against the AR15 barrel nut?
  23. I was thinking the same thing about that 1-6x. Hate to add any more weight though. Hope to hit the 200 range next weekend and see how I like it there.
  24. Generally speaking you can't expect an AR15 part to fit a 308. The delta ring isn't to the same spec, so it stand to reason it may push the handguard forward too much. Have you tried locking the front in first? I have a kac RAS and it won't go on if you try to slide it under the delta ring first. I slide it in the cap, then crank the delta ring back all the way and give the rail a good tap and it pops down onto the barrel nut.
