Built a .308 Frankenstein, resulting in confusion
jtallen83 replied to NateDoge's topic in Building a .308AR
Armalite's AR-10 buffer is an AR-15 H3 buffer, their spring is not, it works in both rifle and carbine extensions, same spring. Buy the kit and you are covered, no issues with it. -

Strawberry French Toast DIPA from Decadent Ales, brewed and canned by Dorchester Brewing Co. Boston Mass. for Decadent Ales. Some fruity citrus aroma, it smells sweet. The flavor is spot on the name, some strawberry but mostly a syrupy, creamy, sweet French toast. Finishes up with a little bitter hop flavor that you expect in an IPA. First sip had me thinking the french toast was just too much but as I drink the hazy IPA flavor steps up, I think I like it, yep I like it. These guys are mad scientists of flavor!

Wilson Combat T.R.I.M. rail, no idea what it will be for but the price was to right to pass by and since I have one and some spare rails figured it was a good system to get into. https://shopwilsoncombat.com/TRIM-Tactical-Rail-Interface-Modular-DPMS-12/productinfo/TR-TRIM-AR-10-D-12/ -
Zombie Dust Pale Ale from Three Floyds Brewing in Munster, IN, thanks to my Wisconsin Brother for giving me a chance to sample this iconic brew. Aroma is citrus and bread. Taste follows nose with some piney dank added, also a little peppery. The malty bread flavor is prevalent throughout but picks up as it warms. Unlike the Tree House Julius this one just doesn't live up to the hype for me. The hop flavor is there but not the fresh profile I would have assumed, really nothing to stand it apart from dozens of other craft brewed pale ales I've tried. Not something I would buy, not unpleasant but nothing special for me.

In one picture of the brass in profile it looks like there may be some rings showing. This could be from reamer marks left in the chamber. I had an Armalite M15T that had this, similar issue just not as drastic, sent it to Armalite, they honed the chamber and never had a malfunction again. I would still lean to checking the gas system for issues even if the rings are present.

If it didn't shoot so nice it would get an AAC 51T brake for the SDN-6 suppressor and become really quiet. Not sure I want to change a thing now, the brake really did help with the noise level at the shooter.

Cheap right now as well; https://shopwilsoncombat.com/TRIM-Tactical-Rail-Interface-Modular-DPMS-12/productinfo/TR-TRIM-AR-10-D-12/ https://shopwilsoncombat.com/TRIM-Tactical-Rail-Interface-Modular-AR-10-ArmaLite-12/productinfo/TR-TRIM-AR-10-A-12/

My little brother tapped a bunch of trees on the farm last year. He had about 80 gallons in the tank to start and had been using a wood fire to heat it. Had to go somewhere and put just a little too much wood under it, too much heat and lack of stirring gave him a burnt mess. Bummer because it had been tasting good, ruined the tank as well, now everything he does with it taste like burnt sugar.

Check that gas block, you may save yourself a hassle and Aero some money. Maybe it’s just the filming conditions but I didn’t see a hint of gas from that carrier. No way will checking it cause any warranty issues. Curious if you oiled the chamber. It did seem to keep ahold of that casing, could be a tight or rough chamber.

Hop Nawi New England Style IPA by Energy City Brewing in Batavia IL. And thanks to my Wisconsin brother I get to try it. Some citrus and tropical fruit aroma. They nail it on the label, sweet ripe orange and passion fruit up front with a piney bite to finish. Has that resinous oily feel, super drinkable. I will buy it if I see it for sure!

Could you elaborate on what you did not like the MBT?
-
Yep, same mark on my AR-10 from 2011.
-
Maybe gas block alignment issues. Easy to check, slide the gas block forward and look for a shadow around the gas port on the barrel, port should be centered in the shadow.

They use or used the eagle stamp to indicate a factory built rifle, won't see them on stripped receivers they sell/sold. I am not certain this procedure has been continued by the new owners.

Faxon + Live Free Troubleshooting Lightweight Build

Better get @Lane, Mr. Science, on this! No way would a sample of one negate a time honored practice. As far as lapping and gluing goes it only takes a few minutes and I have only ever seen claims it helps, never heard anyone say it harms if done properly. Way to many professional builders and shooters follow this practice for it to be a fluke. -

Happy birthday 🎉 -
Double Shot Columbia La Piramide stout from Tree House Brewing in Massachusetts, another big thanks to my brother in Massachusetts! I get a coffee and chocolate aroma along with one I can't really pin down, sweet but spicy. Flavor is fuk'n ambrosia! Chocolate, coffee, maybe cinnamon, a sweetness similar to marshmallow but that may be because I read the label first. The feel is like a fresh homemade marshmallow melting in your mouth. Gets richer tasting as it warms but it's hard not to just suck it down before it does. It says to enjoy it on a winter day by the fire with someone you love, by myself so I have the loved one part covered and a warm spring day on the deck by the river is working just fine. One of the best beers I have ever drank, fuk'n ambrosia!

Hopsmack DIPA from Toppling Goliath Brewing in Decorha Iowa. Big tropical fruit aroma. Has a mango pineapple flavor up front, starts on the sweeter side. The tropical fruit flavor dissolves into a hoppy bitterness but not as much bite as I was expecting from the label, for me it was a pleasant, smooth transition to the hop finish, very fresh tasting. A damn fine beer, closer to a sipper than a guzzler.

I Can Brew For Miles is an Imperial American Porter style beer brewed by Mikerphone Brewing in Elk Grove Village, IL. Chocolate and toffee notes for a nose, taste follows but moves around. Has a smoky bitter I can't say I have seen before, not heavy on any single flavor but touches of many, toffee, caramel, coffee, fudge, dark chocolate. Starts with a creamy feel then shifts to a lighter, bitterer finish. Had the largest bubbles in the head I have seen on any beer, foamed up big on pouring but quickly dies down. Gets sweeter, thicker, with more toffee notes as it warms. A good fit for the ambrosia category!

Infinite Galaxy, galaxy hopped IPA by Pipeworks Brewing Co in Chicago, big thanks to my Wisconsin Brother for providing this flavor savoring opportunity! Almost a hazy, almost a classic IPA, for sure damn good. Aroma wise I get some of that fresh cut grass, citrus, as well as some basic beer aroma, malt I assume. Taste starts with a mild grapefruit melony flavor but goes into that more bitter orange pith, dank, grassy taste, a bit of classic IPA bitter but a pretty good dose of sweet makes a great balance. Starts to pick up some resinous pine flavor and a touch more sweet as it warms. One of the more abrupt changes in flavor, very distinct changes as it goes through your mouth, almost like having two different beers. Thinner feel, easy to drink, dangerously easy to drink!

No problem with a good mount properly installed. You never want to bridge the receiver and the rail with your scope, setting it up for some bad vibrations compared to just staying on the receiver. Never seen an issue with hanging a bunch of scope out there when using quality equipment.

Yes, just happened to be a Wilson Combat part.

And I use the term pig in a loving way, bless her heart. Started the build because the BA 20 in. match barrel (.936 at the block) came real cheap from a guy that decided it was too heavy for his daughter to hunt with Had the Matrix receiver set from Primary Arms hanging around since it didn't play well with an Aero rail. Cerakoted it tactical grey before I knew it wouldn't work so the color theme for this build was chosen. This rail is a Wilson Combat with some sort of special coating that gives it a dark silver look. Very solid rail, WC is blowing out this style so some bargains to be had there. The Magpul grey stock matched the tone of the build, much sturdier than I anticipated. The Magpul K+2 grip doesn't match the grey stock well for being the same makers. Used a Brownell's BCG, super stiff and just barely let the go gauge chamber. The muzzle device was blended into the barrel nicely. Not sure what I think of the linear comp but that may need to change for an AAC 51T. Used a Tubbs spring in the Aero rifle recoil kit. Used an Aero LPK and of course a LaRue MBT trigger. The pig was past the 14 pound mark before I put the AADMOUNT scope mount and Bushnell XRS 4.5x30, now it's a top heavy pig! Ran 30 rounds, 20 Federal M80 and 10 FGMM 168's on the target, only a three round group as this was mainly a functions check and a zero the scope kinda trip. Had a few failure to fire, bolt was just a little short, the trigger went but the round didn't. Only happened with the M80 and then only when putting three or more in the magazine. I'm thinking a few more rounds to find it's glide path and the BCG will drive them home in that tight chamber. It was super easy on the brass, no dents or serious scratches and it put them in a sweet little pile at 4 O'Clock. I'm liking the extra speed gained on follow up shots, all that weight plants the rifle pretty good.
