Saw a recent CMP parts built M1 Garand for sale at an LGS. The action and barrel looked great, but the stock was truly disappointing. As best I could tell, it was a soft wood, like white pine, and had a reddish flat stain applied that left it with a cheapo looking feel to it. It had a nick in the pistol grip that had exposed bare white wood, so that stain hadn't penetrated very deeply. At the price that was being asked, I would have expected better. Wouldn't consider buying it unless I had the budget to replace that stock with something better. Anybody else seen this with them?
