As an old retired gunsmith I had resisted the AR15 type of firearms as I was pleased with the M1 M14 platforms, 30 caliber. Recent trips to the range introduced me to the 308 - 7.62X51 AR rifles and I got the crazy old man "new rifle itch" found this AR308 site and rather than pay almost $2000 for a hard to find Ruger SR762 I opped for a good new DPMS LR308 Oracle with a glass sight, extra magazine and 50 rounds of Federal LC ammo for an out the door price of $1150 Later added a Giessele trigger and am pleased with the reliability and accuracy. For me it is a good deal, I have a work in progress and when I change some parts out I have experiences and knowledge of the degree of improvment from stock or lack of improvements. I don't like the roughness of the charging sequence or the noise of the return to battery and will work on these items. Later I suspect I could be ready to build a 300 Blackout from scratch. But not yet.

No kind of fish tastes better to me than a mess of filleted crappie. The reason I live here is the fine quality of the crappie. A couple of us go out right aftre sun rise. We have about six to eight places where we have brush piles. Light tackle with homemade mono crappie 2 hook rigs and minnows or sometimes we jig for them. Crappie have tender lips. Fishing is good most days that you can stand on the water in the winter time.Spring and fall is more pleasant. We use electric fillette knives.two passes and each side is done. One deep cut along the ribs, flip thefillette over and take the skin and scales off. Chill the fillets gently bread them and into the King Cajun hot peanut oil. Catfish fillettes are good but Crappie is better. I found Crappie is a bit delicate for grilling, any suggestions?

One time I had a local varmit hunter order a new Savage 110 left hand .270 and after shooting it for 6 months brought it in with a empty case stuck in the chamber and the bolt locked closed. I asked to see some of the brass he had been shooting (handloads) and of the 5 cases he had all of the primers had flowed on the bolt face and he had hammered the bolt handle to get one of them out when he told me how much powder he loaded I looked in the book and he had 110% of the max load. I told him to leave the rifle and I would "soak the cartridge" in the chamber and I ordered a new extractor. I hammered the bolt open cratered the really stout Savage extractor, drove the cartridge out of the chamber and replaced the extractor. I told him that the rifle was going to blow up if he kept overloading the rounds, never bring it back to me and when they have your damn funeral I won't be there. The dude died about three years later from a stroke.

Iv'e had RCBS and Lyman and even Herters, I have been looking at the Lee Anniversary kit at Midway and Amazon, don't know where they are made, Dillon looks great for their progressive loaders. -
I was fortunate to know Mr. Whittington as an oilman in the Texas panhandle. His gift of his ranch was a blessing to the NRA and it's members. My wife and I attended the first NRA Instructors classes there in 1977. The ranges were freshley bulldozed and included centerfire rifle, pistol, rimfire, trap and skeet. Classroom training was held in a tent there was no housing we camped in our travel trailer with our four kids ranging from six to 18 in a primative setting there were no hookups. During our off time we explored the property in our 1962 I-H Scout 4X4. It was an experience we will never forget. There were 50 instructor-trainees at the school and the head of NRA training and five or six senior instructors, one of which was a senior New Mexico Wildlife Dept. Ranger

Look like aftermarket.45 ACP for Colt 1911. I have several of them. Some work fine but often the magazine bottom cap will come unsoldered or spot weld that is ground smooth will pop loose and dump the cartridges spring and follower. Happened to me the first time I shot the Texas CHL Proficiency test.

A major family house boss complained about the noise I replyed"what did you say?" I have my hearing aids turned off, because of the noise." Do you know that you never hear the cast iron skillet that renders you unconscious?

I made one out of a piece of 6" pvc two end caps a sewing machine motor and a treddle sewing machine belt a piece of plywood and a skillsaw. Yours looks even simpler, good job. Oil well drilling mud companies use large bags of ground up walnut hulls for lost circulation materials, it is good polishing media. I also added a couple tablespoonfulls of Brasso to the media. I found out later just being clean brass reloaded and shot just as well as bright polished brass.. now i put the fired brass in a drawstring bag and run it thru the gentle cycle in the top loading Maytag with a couple towels then 20 mins in the dryer works for me.

Praised our heavenly father: Psalms 68:5 A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.

Okay reloder, I am in the same boat, or maybe "the same kettle of fish". I shot the M -1 in the USMC and later the M-14. I never thought the 5.56MM was good for anything except shooting tin cans and prairie dogs and the M16, AR15 was Product of a toy factory. However over the years I priced the civilian M1A was low quality and over priced and THEN a some locals were showing off their $759 DPMS Oracle 308LR and the little 16" barrels were putting the $1800 M1As to shame, so I found this site and a local gunshop ran his DPMS Oracle on sale and here I am...... WELCOME FROM THE HEART OF TEXAS!
