  1. Simon, just remember, there are plenty of places to join in on conversation without having much experience at all. They still keep me around. lol.
  2. seriously!? so glad I live in Wisconsin. only thing I have to send to an FFL is a lower. everything else comes straight to the house. I'm not sure, but I think we can probably order tanerite in the mail. lol.
  3. I always purchase ammo online. you can find a lot better deals on a larger variety. You can find a lot of decent 300 blk for pretty cheap
  4. hope this spreads like wildfire, every gun owner needs to stand together
  5. love the dust cover
  6. Yup and just ordered an ACME Machine nickel boron BCG ?
  7. Not that I have found, you can have pistols under 26" in length, but NFA says if it is equipped with something like say a vertical foregrip, it is no longer meant to be shot single handed and therefore is not a pistol but rather an AOWs. So the vertical grip and other such things are the key, however angled foregrips are approved by the ATF.
  8. I see, and I bet you guys have strict laws on pistols. you could always get like a 14 inch barrel and pin your muzzle device to make it the 16", or better yet pin a suppressor to a 9" barrel to get the 16"!
  9. not exactly. we are getting into NFA (national firearms act), federal laws. in an AR style rifle, anything below 16" is a short barreled rifle and requires a tax stamp. the exception is if it is a "pistol." this would require no stock or an arm brace in place of a stock. also there are some other restrictions. As for your state laws and local laws, that I do not know because I live in a rather free area (for the time being). Now idk anyone that tries to conceal carry a 300blk pistol. that is not the point of having a 300blk pistol, same as most people wouldn't try and conceal carry a 44 magnum revolver with a 5 in barrel and many other types of pistols. the point of a 300blk pistol is it is short, light, easy to maneuver, and great for home defense or as a truck gun. also it is fun. and one huge reason why long barrels were never a thought in the minds of the developers of the 300blk is because it was made to put a subsonic round in an ar15 with the same capacity and without replacing anything but the barrel. now, you can get supersonic rounds flying at reasonable speeds for a rifle, but subsonic always has to be slower so that it doesn't break the sound barrier. so doesn't matter if the barrel is 26 inches or 6 inches, it still needs to remain under those supersonic speeds, so that's really where your barrel length is not going to matter much. for most people, 300blk is a round that can be chambered in an ar15 with only changing the barrel and keeping the same mag capacity. it is also a round that can be shot supersonic or subsonic with a can. now if you will always be using supersonic ammo, than I see the benefit of the longer barrel, but if you want it for its subsonic capabilities, in my opinion I see more benefits from a pistol or short barreled rifle setup. either way, any gun is a thing of beauty to me and I'll support your 100% in what you choose and I look forward to seeing what you build. ?
  10. I can't fathom why anyone would want to build a 300blk with a barrel longer than 16 inches. Hell, I didn't even build mine, I bought it because it was an amazing deal I couldn't pass up. when I plan on building one, I will probably use around a 10 inch barrel and make it a pistol. the nice thing about such a slow moving round, is it is less affected by shortening the barrel compared to very fast rounds. if you wanted to make an ar15 with a 21.75 in barrel, I would suggest it be chambered in 224 Valkyrie. but the extra velocity will help .300 blk, I just think it would help other calibers more efficiently.
  11. Very cool. Rob, you are an example that most in this world could learn from. I'm glad to be your brother in blue
  12. I called it. lol. good sized mountain lions get to between 140 and 180 pounds and stay with mom 12 to 24 month according to a quick google search. the cubs aren't even weened from their mother's till 2-3 months. The cat was far from a large and skilled hunter. I still think the guy was lucky though... lucky mom wasn't in the area.
  13. custom 16" modified hbar McGowen Precision barrel, chambered in .260 Remington. Will have to wait around 8 weeks. ? hope they are exaggerating.
  14. no thank God, I am on the other side of thes tate. I did have to help with a few really big ones and have probably had to shut down the interstate 5 times already this year which is unheard of for the entire year.
  15. looks pricey
  16. what's the farthest shot you would take on a deer with that?
  17. hmmm. maybe I will start searching every company before purchasing. lol.
  18. yeah I like hydrostatic shock to cause further damage to the vitals of the deer I shoot. most of the time I am shooting deer at around 150 yards and often times farther. the distances you are talking, I might as well just get a crossbow. lol. good to know that it can take deer at short range though.
  19. couldn't find any in the size I needed from Faxon so I should just forget about the dimples and use a set screw block anyways?
  20. so after speaking with the manufacturer of the barrel I will be purchasing, I have found they do not dimple the barrel unless specifically asked for and I would need to send in my gas block. I have no issues with this, although shipping is gonna cost me. might be worth while to get a clamp on style gas block. So where can I get an inexpensive .875 low profile clamp on gas block? I have looked and not found much in that specific size.
  21. what range you shooting these deer at? I would be hesitant to shoot at our Wisconsin deer with subs.
  22. yeah it is very cool
  23. Kiwi, that thing shoots super quiet, now you just have to make the magazine quieter because loading it was the loudest part.
  24. Welcome from WI and congrats on retirement!
  25. I was just thinking that in his interview, he seems to be either talking himself up or just adding a bit of fluff to explain how the hell it was he did get so damn lucky. … and yeah he does look like the man bun hippy type. lol
