Everyone have a happy Thanksgiving everyone! Vic... about Vic... I remember those Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving get togethers. This morning I watched a mess of queers go past Macys in a parade, just so they could drag the day down into their hell while mentally ill MCs acted like it was completely normal to see other mentally ill people. But Vic, obviously from the NYC area. Every Thanksgiving day there was at least one station that would show it and it's part of the traditional day. There were other traditional movies as well. Was the March of the the Wooded Soldiers part of your day as well? Rant mode off. Back to having a normal and happy Thanksgiving. The dog show is being watched now since it became part of our traditional Thanksgiving day as adults. Later March of the Wooden Soldiers will be seen from DVD.

The problem I have with much of contemporary music is that I just can't understand what they're saying. Music shouldn't need subtitles if it's done correctly and want us to know what's being sung. Of course that's my opinion.

That's what I do. I use one app to download the MP3s, but if I wanted it to it would also play it. But I use Musio to organize my playlists and to play the music. Musio also allows me to move the music from my phones built in RAM to free that up to the huge storage card. Maybe a more expensive phone has a better way to move it, but mine is an inexpensive phone. I did notice a positive with using bluetooth to send the music to my cars audio. In the past my music was on a thumbdrive and plugged into the car. It would skip and gave all sorts of problems. Using the phone there is none of that. Heck, I just waited for the mail to be delivered and spent the time ( just a few minutes) listening to the music that was already playing. There are much less pleasant ways to spend time waiting than in a warm car listening to my music. The audio quality is pretty good too. I really never wanted a smart phone when I was told 3G was going away, but it has been a good thing. I use the phone rather than allowing the phone to use me. To drive that home to friends, I tell them not to call me on it, I won't pick up and it won't be a leash for me. I also don't do texts; I'm not on that leash either. I do have ear buds, but unlike many people I see wearing them I only use them to watch a movie to keep the volume down so that the wife can sleep, or for my music to put me in a cocoon of music when I'm enduring the pain of rehab. Oh, one other use... In the shop I do have a radio that I keep tuned to talk radio since the various music stations play crap and I'm not going to take the time to test each and every one for decent music. Plus, reloading is on the 2nd floor and the radio is on the first. I bought a bluetooth speaker and with my phone near me I have full control and again, it's my music and not crap.

it would have been so easy to settle without any of that "nonsense" if what occurred can be called that. Just allow a 3rd party to pay them and have them sign over their checks that the 3rd party would collect on later. Of course the troops would have lost some $ but they needed the $ right then, not promises.

Right now an after dinner drink of Ouzo and water, enough water to turn it white. Later tonight before bed I'll have some Sullivan Irish.

BTW, I detest word fill in or spell correct. In my post above it's supposed to be "done" and not "down". Maybe there are other errors, if I find more I'll make more posts stating what the corrections are supposed to be.

I'm an old fart, I know what I like and LOTS of the new music is just mehh. My all time fav' is the Moody Blues. I can listen to them and the pain of rehab just disappears. IMO their best album wasn't down by the Moody Blues, but just 2 members of the group, Justin Hayward and John Lodge, Blue Jays. Other than classical music it's my favorite album of all time. OK, my journey into getting them in my ears during rehab. This will be old hat to many younger folks here. For years (decades?) the wife and I had flip phones that needed charging every few weeks and they did all we needed them to do. But 3G is disappearing and we were told that out lifetime phone numbers couldn't be transferred to new flip phones so we went with smart phones. I discovered apps and one allowed me to have my music. It was Pandora and I found out over time that it sucked, or it did for me. Then I discovered apps that downloaded MP3s and stored them on my phone. Musio plays them for me and unlike Pandora doesn't switch me over to Ella Fitzgerald after it times out. I have never had "my music" in the shop before but I also discovered bluetooth speakers and in fact just came in after building a shelf for one that arrived yesterday to reside on. While I was building it I was listening to Jethro Tulls Aqualung courtesy of my phone. Back to cardiac rehab, I also discovered noise cancelling ear buds and I put them in and I'm in my personal cocoon of sound. It's soooo much better than intermittent conversation or music that has the volume turned down so low as to be worthless. Other music on my phone, Olivia Newton-John, Linda Ronstadt, ELO, Jethro Tull, Renaissance, Pink Floyd, more that I can't remember. Maybe some Black Sabbath? As I remember groups that I like I download their mp3s.

Of course I could be wrong, maybe the fault is Volquartsens through the retailer. All I know is that I'm waiting.

It's not Volquartsen IMO, it's the retailer making stuff up as they go along. It's not the first time they've emailed me one thing and the reality of what they were told was something other. I got the distinct impression the first time it happened that it was due to English not being their first language and being put into a position the person was ill suited for.

Ahhh, the continuing saga of the volq' carbon fiber 10/22 Charger Takedown barrel.... A quick recap. It was ordered on May 16, '22 and has been "promised" to ship on different dates, the longest period was the last promised date of for 11/17/22. I contacted Volq' and was told that they might require a few more weeks. So the other day that date was changed by the retailer to 1/17/23. Today I got an email from the retailer telling me they have no ETA and to call them for more information, which is what I did. I was told that they have 12 on order and 6 are spoken for, I was first on the list. The restocking date listed is 11/24/22 but the gent also told me that it was just a date in the computer. Would it happen on the 24th? No way to tell until after it happens. So I continue to wait and other than cancelling the order, and that's not going to happen, waiting is all I can do.

BTW, I've been meaning to mention about your rifle... Typical single shot, nice and short due to little to no action length. They make fantastic woods rifles.

I got to thinkin' about that chin weld. Sure that's exactly what you would get if you elevated any sight due to the stock drop at the heel. Straight recoil stocks, that is, no drop at the heel, require high mounted sights. All of my straight recoil stocks have high mounted sights and the folks who see them question it until they shoulder the gun(s). Then understanding happens. But they aren't accustomed to seeing sights mounted high. It can only happen with straight stocks, or not using the shoulder pocket and floating the buttstock in the air like I see some folks most commonly do with the M16/M4/AR15 family. In the end, your rifle needs to fit you and make you and no one else happy.

This thread got me to thinkin' and doing something I'd been meaning to do for years. I contacted SSK and inquired how many barrels they chambered in .375/06 JDJ. The answer was 14-16 and they added that even fewer were chambered in .376 Steyr. FWIW, I have never put a shoulder stock on it and don't even have sights of any sort that would lend itself to rifle use. But the barrel itself is capable of it.

Well, there can be. The rabbit hole can but doesn't need to go deep unless you want it to. Start slow and maybe you can get more involved but there's nothing that says that you must. I started with a single stage press and just what I needed to reload safe 9mm ammo. It took me years to become a handloader. There's still a great deal that I don't know.

And I thought Cajuns ate pretty much anything! 😊 I had SSK make a .308 Win barrel for my Encore, and after getting it in realized that I could have added another 1.25" and had a barrel that could also be used as a rifle just by putting the shoulder stock on the action. I didn't make that mistake with the next barrel, the .375/06 JDJ chambered barrel (Handcannon) that I had SSK make for me. The designation should tell you that the parent cartridge is a .30/06, the cartridge itself is a wildcat. Here it is as a handgun, but the barrel and expansion chamber/brake make it long enough for use as a non-NFA rifle should I ever want to use it that way. Due to the Encore having virtually no action length the 16 1/4" barrel is doable as a handgun. My wrist has had enough for one day after firing 20ish rounds of full powered ammo. It pushes a 300 grain bullet to 2300 fps with very little muzzle flip due to the brake, the recoil all comes straight back. Of course it can be downloaded to make it more tolerable. It's powerful enough for elephant and accurate enough for squirrel. It was designed to put a solid in one side of an elephant skull, pass through 4' of bone and the brain, and come out the other side. In testing it went straight through 36" of solid fresh cut beech across the growth rings. Penetration in beech is much less with an expanding bullet, 7". It's the first cartridge I had where I felt confident enough that if a deer was standing not too far behind a not too large tree, that I could shoot through the tree and bag the deer. It's an easy 300 yard handgun. Here it is as a handgun with a 1911 and a .45ACP as a comparison. In the out of focus cartridge pic' the cartridge is holding a solid bullet. If one looks closely the expansion chamber can be seen as a graceful belling at the muzzle.

You should to do so soon then. As with everything the left touches they destroy it. Right now they're working on destroying the lobster industry. That's a good part of the flavor (in more ways than one) of the coast. Let me know if you plan on it.

That's a lot of bullets. I think if there were any surprises you'd have seen them and maybe did with those few flyers. I built the Takedown as a SBR just to see how small a rifle I could build. It takes down and would fit in a knife roll and no part is longer than 11". But accuracy is disappointing, at least to me it is. It's good enough for Steel Challenge though which is where I use it. If I still hunted it would be good enough for small game. Maybe not a squirrels head though, and it has no "holding" qualities. It's not a long range rifle. I assume the Volq' barrel will have a tight chamber but I don't know for certain. I've never had a tight .22 chamber in a semi-auto so don't know what to expect. It's been on order since 5/15 and should ship in a few weeks. I'll see what I see after it arrives (obviously). Right now the Takedown wears a red dot, but I have a 2-9 scope that I bought for it that it rarely wears except for testing. It might wear it more frequently if the new barrel works out. The scope would stay on the new barrel. My accurate .22 is a Browning T-Bolt. The last time I shot it on paper at 50 meters it was incredibly accurate. That was 50 years ago. I bought it in Weisbaden (west Germany) Rod & Gun Club and while I know that it has hit everything I've put the 50 year old 7/8" scope on for all those years I haven't fired it at paper again in all that time (except to check zero). I should. That would be some enjoyable time at the range, esp' after I get the new barrel. If we get some warmish weather I'll do it soon otherwise it'll wait for spring. I no longer like the cold. I see you're in Wisconsin, you know about cold weather. Right now we're having an extended warm spell, but it can change any day. I have considered putting a better scope on the T-Bolt for long range competition (NRL?) and if it had a heavy barrel I would in a heartbeat since I don't hunt anymore. I still might do it for more trigger time and to get the rifle out of the safe and back doing what it does so well, launching bullets. It's a shame to have it in there as a safe queen.
