  1. If he's been dumping 55gr pills at a high RoF, just for shits and giggles, he could've burnt the rifling. Those NATO 55gr rounds will burn a barrel with tight threads if you're not minding the barrel heat. That's a shiit ton of friction, pressure and heat.
  2. At one point I had 4 or 5 extra Colt barrels. I still have one left, a 16" carbine, pencil contour. It too is 1:7 and hates the 55gr stuff. I was very tempted to cut it to 10.3" and use it for strictly for heavies. There's a guy in SoCal who will cut pencil barrels and build a new shoulder for the barrel threads.
  3. Some are the 3% of the 3%
  4. I know the .300blk is twisted to 1:9 or 1:8 for those extra heavy subs. I've actually never seen a .308 loaded past 180gr, even though I know theyou make them way past 200gr.
  5. I was sure that 1:10 was fine for 175's. My CF barrel is 1:10 although I haven't stretched past 300 yards with it yet either... and my only 175's are SP hunting loads.
  6. I believe there's a video somewhere, of a 10mm into a wet phone book, on the floor of a trailer... just sayin.
  7. I got tired of waiting for other companies to catch up to whatever Glock was already doing. I almost went 9mm... that would've been FULL gay.
  8. I caved in... here's my new, slow, work in progress. G41 Gen4 MOS • Dawson Precision CoWitness MOS Tritium Sights • Carver Magwell (not sure I like this) • Taran Tactical +4 Mag Extension (17 rounds each) • NiB pins with Ext Slide Release More to come... definitely an RMR... maybe some Kriss mags... and of course a light. So much more to do.
  9. I have one. I got it as a gift a while back. It came with the grip stickers. I have a metric shitt ton of PMAG's. I'm slowly stocking up on Lancer mags now. Those can be pricey little SOB"s.
  10. http://www.primaryarms.com/hx30-ar-blk/p/hx30-ar-blk/?utm_source=bronto&utm_medium=email&utm_content=SLOT_1&utm_campaign=16-09-Ad5_Fall_Into_Savings&_bta_tid=36074696841054720696274589597485691643414225709716943881793085807003136 Hexmag 30-Round AR-15 Magazine - Black $7.99 ea Limit 5 per order
  11. I know this is a horrible picture to try to guess.... but WTF do you think that sidearm is??? It's looking a little like a futuristic revolver!?!?!
  12. Most 16" rifle length gas systems are over 0.104 to 0.125. I have a 17" rifle length with a .099 gas port. It runs fine on everything I've fed it. The hole in the gas block is .125 so that's kinda your limit.
  13. The only part I agreed with was the part about the AR10/308AR being a superior replacement. The M14/M1A is still, and will remain to be, a very proficient rifle. I don't see a "need" to replace it, other than there's a better option available.
  14. I guess the barrel extention could be too thick too. While it's not likely, we've definitely experienced stranger things here.
  15. Yikes! That could be devastating to the aluminum... depending on how hard one torqued on it.
  16. Give the barrel a tug. Does the barrel wobble? If it moves, the nut isn't screwing on far enough. If it doesn't, the nut is out of spec. If it's the upper, I would guess that the threads on the upper we're not completed or finished. It could be as simple as too much material/finish on the threads. Have you tried a different barrel nut yet? If a different nut fits, then the original nut needs to be addressed. If the second nut doesn't work out, the upper is out of spec. A barrel nut should be worked on and off 3 or 4 times to ensure its seating all the way back. You can clean up those threads with a wire brush really fast. A brass wheel on a dremmel is even faster. Needless to say. The gap is definitely too large.
  17. Welcome to the land of misfits
  18. Small pins, detents and springs... even if they come in 3 packs... won't cost you more than maybe $10. Then you still buy your aftermarket trigger, selector group, and mag release and bolt catch. My lower parts generally cost me around $200 to $300 with all the aftermarket stuff I like. At least if I build it part by part (instead of using a parts kit) I don't have any left over useless parts.
  19. Their tolerances for machining are WAY over what others accept. I swear that you could use a CMMG pistol grip bolt, and it'll somehow cause a failure to function. Purchase and use at your own risk. Brownells usually has all the same parts (by High Standard) to select individually.
  20. It was a very hard decision for me to make.
  21. I advise against using CMMG parts. They can require some fitting and adjusting.
  22. Wondering if anyone wants to loan out their Glock rear sight drift-tool. I went to the Dark Side and bought a pair of Glocks. I've been tricking them out to show off, but I'm stuck at the sights. I'll pay for shipping both ways.
  23. The Lancer L5 works so well on heavy bore loads.... I wonder if their L7 would do the same?
  24. Are .308 mags too wide?
