Who can tell gun shots, fireworks and backfires apart?
98Z5V replied to MaDuce's topic in General Discussion
Who can tell the difference between rockets, mortars, and small arms fire? That's the poop that really fucks you up. Fireworks can kiss my ass... "Proficiency" happens when some shithead shoots a mortar or rocket at you, and you can tell by the sound that you're not gonna get hit by that one - so you don't worry about it... :o -

Militarily "grew up" with that poop, brother. It's an easy teaching technique, to get EVERY shooter to acquire the SAME cheek-to-stock weld every single time. The Cheek-to-stock weld is important when using iron sights, because if you change your eye distance to the rear aperture, you change your sight picture, ever so slightly, but enough to make a difference if it's a gross difference. I still shoot that way, out of habit, on iron-sight-only ARs, and I'm consistent on all of them. <thumbsup> -
I have a 20" barreled, rifle gas, 5.56 precision gun with a 12" rail, and it has the same gap. I don't worry about the gap. If something hits that gun right between the gas block and the rail, and if it can crush that gas tube, which might make my rifle inoperable - then I've got a hell of alot more to worry about... I let them get too close, and I'm going to another one of the back-up weapons. You're in deep poop it that gap affects you, operationally. :o

My take on it, brother - Comp, Brake, FH. Combinations of those. Compensator - affects muzzle rise/twist, and might mitigate a little flash. Brake - be damned to concussion or side-blast or flash, it mitigates felt recoil to the shooter. Flash Hider - just that. It doesn't really worry about muzzle rise or twist to the shooter, or concussion to other shooters beside you, but it worries about suppressing muzzle flash. Combinations - there are many, and they're not perfect at any one thing, but do the best at a few things. I'm not trying to school you, ipsick, just providing my 0.02 bullets here, for others. Depends on what you want, primarily - because there's always a trade-off. If you only want recoil reduction (.50 BMG, .338 LM, etc), then run a brake. If .308 Win recoil through your bolt gun is too harsh, run that brake. Side-blast to others is gonna suck, and you'll have flash. If you need to mitigate signature (flash), but still keep a heavy rifle on target, for follow-up shots, but you're not gonna die if someone else sees the flash, then maybe a comp might be in order - it might limit the signature, and benefit something for recoil reduction. If flash suppression is the max desire, like in a military-type ambush - you hit them with everything you have and don't want to give up position, outside of noise - noise discipline goes RIGHT out the window in an ambush... then go for flash suppression. Several companies manage this well, in a couple areas - AAC makes the BrakeOut - does okay at the "brake" capabilities, and manages Flash Suppression, decently. I run this on a .308 rifle. It also is a quick-attach for the AAC Suppressor. That leads me into the next direction - best thing ever for flash suppression, braking, and signature reduction, will be a suppressor. <thumbsup> My $0.02.

Hydra-Matic was just another contract winner, back in the day. They made parts (lowers and full rifles) just like all the other contract winners. They produced, along with the other producers, in that era. <thumbsup>

I really need to read this whole thing, and especially what mrraley posted in entirety, before I comment with both feet, buuuuuut... The DI gun is proven. The DI gun is a "piston gun," Lot's of people don't get that. The bolt in a DI gun has gas rings, and it's cycled by gas pressure - that thing is a damn "piston" by definition. I think that by moving that "piston" forward, you introduce more parts, more parts that can get damaged, and more weight forward - where you don't need it, at the muzzle. Sure, you get the heat forward, but where is your support hand? Forward. Non-thought out comments, off the cuff. I'll take DI any day of the week.

I don't know what's what with this right now, but please read: http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/untreaty.asp

He's already figured out most of life, brother, with that one. <thumbsup> I'm proud of him in a father-son way, and I've never met him. That's a good kid.

Done, and he's on top in the voting right now, with 309 (35%). <thumbsup>

Rob, I'm gonna put you through your paces while you're out here. You'll see all this stuff in action, upon arrival, with what I've got planned. I've spent the past few months growing my own Costa-Beard, just for this occasion, and it'll scare enough intimidation into you right away, so I don't have to worry about the results of any shooting competition betweenst us all... <laughs> <lmao> Upon your arrival, I'll already be "in your head..." :o ;D :cookoo: -

There have been lots of grip changes in the not-too-distant past, based on shooting styles and tactics/techniques. Look at the new BCM Gunfighter Grip - less angle then the other grips on the market, and more "straight-up-and-down" of a grip than "traditional" AR grips that have more grip angle. There's a reason that it has merit - modern shooting styles. Firing elbow tucked on tight to your side, minimizing exposure, front-facing your target to give maximum exposure of your body armor plates. Weaver stance is out, in modern gunfighting. With the firing elbow tucked in tight to your side, with a grip like this - or the new BCM Gunfighter grip - there's less angle on the firing hand over a traditional AR grip angle. This one does both. <thumbsup> I'm just sayin'... <dontknow> It's about as "technique-driven" as all the MagPul Theory-Based Products. <thumbsup> -
What typical distances do you shoot at, and what common max distance? The Nikon BDC reticles kick ass, if you go to those common distances, as hashed out in their BDC reticles. <thumbsup> I love the damn things.

I thought that somewhere on this board, we had a pic or two of planeflyer like that, on his local shooting range... <dontknow> <lmao>

It is one fne piece of hardware. <thumbsup> -
Jeb, just take whatever edgecrusher says he wants, and x2 on it - I'll take the other half of that order. <thumbsup> <laughs>

Yep! My hardcopy was delivered last week. <thumbsup>
-
Jgun, with what you hav e pictured, I'd leave it as-is. That is one beautiful rifle. I'm not sure how much the chassis change has over accuracy, but unless you're shooting it for competitions - then what you have built is far more good looking than the current chassis-sets. Damn, that's one good looking M1-anything. <thumbsup>

Yep, $100k bonus if you were 18-series enlisted with 18 years, signing for abother 4 or 6 something... <thumbsup>

Hell yeah, it's badass - I made it. The damn thing is PINK. Nothing says "BADASS" more than a PINK gun, brother! <thumbsup> You get to model that thing before the movie ever comes out, too!!! <thumbsup> <laughs> <lmao> WITH slippers!!! <munch>

New gunshow rules in my state
98Z5V replied to weaponizer's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
I had a few fuckers that hated me when I left, but alot more that didn't want me to go. My going awaay gift was a Kimber .45, BP TEN II, engraved with my poop on it. When I left, I had 17.5 years in. The two Warrant Officers that I worked with told me that was my retirement present, even though I wasn't retiring. The knew my next assignment... and they just knew. Those two fuckers were right, because when I retired at 21.5 years, no one gave a poop, where I was when I retired... Those guys were right on the money. <thumbsup> Never doubt the perceptive abilities of a Warrant Officer - even if you think you know more than them. They know what's up, and will prove you wrong every time... <thumbsup> <dontknow> Fuckers are smart. ;D -
It's too late, brother. I'm just sayin'... <dontknow> Nothing can save you now... :-[

You're gonna LOVE IT!!! I got out today and shot mine. Wanted to get that done Sunday, but just didn't have the time. Today was the day. For a .30 cal rifle that design-wise going back to WWII, I wasn't prepared for how great this rifle was. Th previous owner claimed he sighted it in, but I don't know at what range - I shot it at 50 yards first, and it was low and right. Went 4 left and 4 up on the scope, and I was half-way there. Posted a target at 100, shot low right again. Went left 5 and up 5 and came up with this one - shooting Federal 150gr softpoint hunting loads, cheapest I could find. Should have done the 180gr shoftpoint hunting loads, which were available then, but I just wanted to shoot it cheap. Here's the target, 100 yards, 5 shots, Fed 150gr soft-points: Thoroughly, completely, undoubtedly impressed with this rifle. <thumbsup>

New gunshow rules in my state
98Z5V replied to weaponizer's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
I suffer from PTSD - but in a way that most others don't. The source of mine of from combat effectiveness. Mine comes from training, training, training, and more training... for war. I always strove to train my people as hard as I possibly could, accept no excuses, accept no failures, and push my people until they break. That's not by accident. I made my people 10-feet tall, two coats of hair, three rows of teeth, and bullet-proof. I made mean motherfuckers. I turned pussies into Giants. My poop comes from the people that you never should have been sent in the first place, that can never, ever do the job that you'll ask of them, that had no business being in the profession that you have chosen - and Big Army sent them to you anyway. You have to deal with these shitbags, these liabilities in all stress-assignments, and they just need to leave - and you're stuck with them. I hadone new guy that was sent to me about 4 months before a no-notice deployment. Worked and worked and worked with him, and finally told higher-ups that he needed to go. On a Friday. Got dropped for a deployment at 1430 that day, with guys on the shooting range, and we were leaving that night at 2330. Not TWO days later, climbing up a fucking hill in AFG, this shitbag says "I wish I never would have taken this assignment..." TOO LATE, MOTHERFUCKER!!! YOU'RE HERE NOW!!! I kept him safe through those 10 days, and got his ass on a helicopter back to Baghram, and back to the States. Adios, motherfucker, have your locker cleared by the time I get back or I'll choke your ass right out. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Go find something soft for you. People like that, that jeopardized the people that wanted to work and be there, and give everything for each other - the shitbags are the source of my problems. I think about those shitbags every single night, and the possible harm they harbored to everyone else. Fucking hindrance to the mission, and needed to go. I couldn't get them to "go" fast enough. <dontknow> -

Ronnie Barrett is truly a real fucking patriot. Those that don't realize that should look into him more deeply. He has always had the defense of this nation as his foremost goal, and he has always made steps in that direction. The defense of freedom of the United States of America has always been his goal.
