Robo, I am currently in great progress in building my pistol-cal AR. IMHO, there really is only one pistol-cal that is worthy, it starts with a ".4-something," and it's not that close in size to a 10mm... <dontknow> <laughs>

They're career politicians, man - they don't know any different. That's what they do, and how they operate. That won't change until we vote them all out, and bring in fresh meat. Once those ones start "getting comfortable," they need to go, too. We need to remind them that they work for us, not the other way around. <dontknow>

Any time a bid is made within the last 30 seconds of the auction, the clock resets to 30 seconds. Those thing may NEVER end. Click on an auction, and just watch it tick down... :-[ It's great way to gamble, and to waste time, though... If you hang in there, you might get that EOTech EOLAD for $15... <laughs> <thumbsup>

No, nowhere close to the longest gas system (gas tube), or gas block. Nowhere close.

It'll be the same size as a standard Armalite barrel nut, which is different than the standard DPMS nut. This nut offered by Samson should thread directly into a DPMS upper receiver, but allow you to mount any free float setup that is made to direct-mount to a stock Armalite rifle. The hazard now is: with DPMS changing rail heights like dirty underwear, will the Armalite-based free float Picatinny rails line up with the DPMS upper?... <dontknow> Based on what I built, using the Troy MRF-308 rail, an Armalite-based rail will line up with the older DPMS rail height. I used the older height upper, and that MRF-308 rail. The rail was originally made to fit both rifles, when used with their (Troy's) barrel nut on the DPMS upper.

I'll leave this one open until you update - if the trade goes, I'll lock it up. <thumbsup>

I was gonna say "About 2 inches - which can be really important sometimes..." Robo's explanation was much better... <lmao> Swing weight will always be subjective, but the more weight you have further forward, the more you'll feel it. When you're considering mounting a lo-pro gas block 2" further forward, plus the additional weight of 2 more inches of gas tube, the impact is really pretty minimal. Bottom line - you'd REALLY have to be used to one of those setups, then test back-to-back with the other, just to even be able to tell the difference. Now, if you freefloat the thing, and you were running a heavy light on a rail, out at the end of a carbine rail - then you move that heavy light to the end of a midlength rail - you'd feel that initially. Might affect initial training, but you'd get used to it pretty quickly.

Oh, that A1 front sight post is gonna be on it's way out - ordering about 5 different KNS Precision front sight posts to try out for it. <thumbsup> This won't be considered "complete" until the FSP is figured out, it's wearing a BADASS, has a Young National Match M16 carrier complete, and has a National Match A2 flash suppressor on it from Fulton. Sadly, that might not happen until sometime in early January, because I just tripped and fell into an AR-45... :o <dontknow> <lmao> That thread will start soon... <munch> AR-45: http://308ar.com/forum/black-rifles/the-next-black-rifle-build/

Brother, they'll just do what they always do - lie. They'll look straight into the camera, with a completely sincere look on their faces, and say "Oh, I FULLY support the 2nd Amendment, and all that goes along with the US Constitution, as I always have." Meanwhile, they're trying to backdoor "gun control," talking about, and using justification from, all the problems Mexico has with violence - which is caused by illegal sales of guns from corrupt, money-grubbing small gun dealers in the Southwest - which they were letting go in the first place... <dontknow>

Jon, honestly, I don't mean to start any poop with you,... ...but I need to introduce you to the world of Nordic Components. <lmao> I'm just sayin'... <laughs> That 930 SPX purchase is called "a good start..." :o You can do alot with it. ;D

SWEEEEEEEEEET!!! Welcome to the family!!! <thumbsup> ;D

That's incredibly cool - and if you can machine the 80% lowers, you can very easily assemble some uppers. Give that a shot before you guys decide to buy some that are already assembled. You'd have the satisfaction of saying you built up the whole thing(s). <thumbsup> Welcome aboard, guys.

Finally got my polymer mags in from ShopRuger - the day after I shot this for the second time... >:( The stock mag is called the "ELEVEN round mag" by several people - you can get 11 in there and seat it easily. Now, these poly mags are a different story - they're shorter than the steel Accurate Mag by a good bit, and getting 10 rounds in them can be a chore (so far, unshot). Locking that mag into the magwell is tough, too. The first 9 rounds go right in there, very easily, but that 10th one is fun. Locking into the magwell on a closed bolt is fun, too... ??? At any rate, I like them already, even over the Accurate Mag that comes with the rifle. Here's the details of the two shooting sessions, since this has only been posted in the Range Pics thread so far.

When I had this one out for the sight zero, it was later in the day - had the Range Masters all over me... <laughs> Figured I'd update this thread with the shooting results thus far, since I only posted this in the Range Pics thread... <dontknow>

unforgiven, I've built a BUNCH of 14.5" carbine gas guns, and two 16" midlength gas guns. I've been itching to build a 14.5" midlength gas for awhile - actually intended to build that config for the "Pink Range Loaner" that I still want to do. <lmao> Last 14.5 carbine gas I did was with a BCM lightweight profile barrel, for my kid - that's a damn fine shooting weapon, right there. If the midlength gas barrel would have been in stock at the time, I probably would have done that instead of the carbine gas - alas, it wasn't in stock. The barrel contour profile makes a big difference in swinging the gun, and carrying it for awhile - my kid won't be carrying for long durations, but he is skinny like a beanpole, and needs all the help he can get when he's driving that thing around on different targets. <laughs> Lightweight profile barrels - I love 'em. ;D <thumbsup>

I'd mount it in the vise in the other direction, so the wrench doesn't slip and take out a monitor when you're cranking on it... <lmao> Otherwise, you should be a'ight. <laughs>
-
WOW!!! That's one hell of a deal! <thumbsup> I saw this on the same page, and it's a screamin' deal, too.
-
You'll really like that mount, blue. <thumbsup> I'm about to literally "pull the trigger" on the AR-45 build, so stuff should start showing up pretty soon. With what I've got on-hand, I could (just barely "possibly...") be shooting it sometime next weekend, in it's barest form. :o

I'll bet that beastie handles very nicely. <thumbsup> Awesome setup.

Best extractor upgrade for Oracle
98Z5V replied to liontribe's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Mini o-ring around the extractor spring, similar to what you do on AR-15s with weak extraction problems. New springs and new extractors shouldn't have any issues, so most of the time, if you're getting extraction issues, a simple spring replacement will fix it (unless the edge of the extractor is badly worn down). <thumbsup> -
WTF? Vote that guy OUT next chance you get. Seriously. We'd have FUN with him here in AZ... <lmao>

Confirmed that the RRA buffer is shorter - Slash (HeavyBuffers.com) offers a special buffer for the Rock River .308 firearms. <thumbsup>

Hey, henmar, check this out. Even the military discovered this, all on their own - Special Operations had to help the regular army (and navy, air force, marines) along with this one, or the Bigger Force never would have figured it out. One gun can't do it all. M16, and varients - for a long time, that was it. M4 - shorter, through necessity. SPR - the original "Special Purpose Receiver." - It didn't take long for it to turn into a whole rifle, and not just a "receiver." Mk 18 - and even shorter M4, because that is necessary, too. Sniper rifles have evolved, and there are many - the "enhanced M14" was brought out of mothballs, reworked, and is reissued now. The M21 was the M14 put through the "National Match" upgrades, and it's back again - and never left in alot of units. The bolt guns have MANY different iterations out there now. ONE RIFLE... can't do everything. Are you getting this? I just bought a new bolt gun that can come close - it doesn't do anything greatly, but in a generality, it could do alot of things okay. It's not a semi-auto AR platform, either.

NIS 2010, upgraded to 2011. I hated their stuff in the past, but this is doing the job. Before, I was a Kaspersky AV kinda person.
