Well, THAT didn't happen. Crazy around here on X-Mas Eve Morning... :o Not even the slimmest chance of getting out to the range this morning. I'll update the initial shoot-in pretty soon. Targets posted, of course. <thumbsup> As kind of a consolation, I did break down the BCG and get some pics. Olympic Arms is doing some very interesting stuff now, compared to what they've done in the past. I have an old 9mm BCG complete from them, from the old days, and what they're doing now (and I don't know for how long, "now" is...) - it's pretty different... I have no manufacture date on that old 9mm BCG, so I have no idea when these changes were made. Overall pic of the disassembled BCG: Standard AR-15 firing pin, but it's sprung - this is one HEAVY spring, too! The cam pin hole is simply bored to size - the bolt doesn't rotate anyway, and there are no locking lugs for the bolt or barrel extension, so this makes perfect sense. The old ones were built on standard carriers, and it was a typical cam pin hole, rotating. Not now. Also, since it's blowback operated, it doesn't need a gas key, but there a chunk there, with bolts - I think this is there for carrier weight. Old ones had a complete gas key in place. Extractor spring is external, on top of the extractor, and fits into a machined groove inside the mouth of the BCG. This is the direct opposite of what we're used to, with the extractor spring back under the tail of the extractor, internal. I don't know if the extractor spring is the same one as an AR-15 part, but it doesn't feel too strong. It has no "insert" inside of it. It's pretty easy to "cycle" the extractor with finger pressure. Not like the AR-15... Overall, that's it. It's a pretty simple system. That carrier is VERY unlike a standard AR-15 carrier - there's extra meterial everywhere they could put it, and there's even a threaded heavy allen-headed insert screwed into the back of the BCG. I need to get a new postal scale and weight this thing out. It's heavy.

Forgot to cover one thing the OP was asking about - this set of furniture ships with a front bipod stud, and it's on there in the AR-15 Woody pic above. <thumbsup>

They're offering these in Cerakote, but only until 7pm Central, Monday night... :o
-
YEOW! Have NOT had that happen to mine. :o If I read that correctly - after the no-fire, when you cycled the safety on then off, it fired by itself when the safety was taken off?

HELL YEAH!!!! <thumbsup> I've been waiting on this post!!!! ;D That thing is SAH-WEEEEEET!!! 8)

Update on this, for more information. I ended up picking up a wood set from Precision Firearms. http://www.precisionfirearms.com/ The pistol grip and buttstock will certainly fit on the AR-10, or other .308 ARs. As far as the forearm goes, it depends on that is "stock" on your particular rifle. If what you have runs standard A1 or A2 handguards from an AR-15, then it'll work. Likewise, if you're running standard M4 carbine hanquards, then the carbine wood handguards would work. For freefloating the wood hanguards - as of right now, Mark (@ Precision Firearms) is working on setting up a set of handguards that will work with a National Match-type freefloat sleeve. The current version of the rifle handguards will not work with a NM freefloat sleeve, not it's required NM gas tube. As soon as the freefloat hadguards are released, I'll get a quick review of them up. I'll be on that waiting list. <thumbsup> Rifle details here: http://308ar.com/forum/black-rifles/re-swfabobro-scope-mount-review/

That's exactly why the extra $100 wasn't that big of a deal, considering. I didn't want to take my chances with the Type III hardcoating - better to keep that stuff to the guy that's already been doing it to those lowers. He already knows the tough spots on it to have to inspect, etc. Spending the $100 to have someone finish the machining, plus the annodizing was a pretty easy choice. <thumbsup>

This thread delivers... <lmao>

Yep, it'll be the CNC lower, for sure. That piece is almost too nice to be used as a firearm. I thought about just getting the 80% and finishing it myself (never done one, but wanted to). I'm economically further ahead to just buy the completed lower from him. <thumbsup> I'm on the hunt for the M3 grease gun mags as we speak.

45 degree, and 45/90 compatible receivers
98Z5V replied to Battle Arms Dev's topic in Battle Arms Development - Terminated
There's nothing out there that can compare to the 45 degree. I wish I had that on all my issue ARs, in the past. It's so much easier and faster to engage and disengage the safety - almost thoughtless. Just a quick flip. Roger, is there a way to get the 45 degree centers, alone? I'd convert all the ones I have now to them, without hesitation. If this is something that shouldn't be asked publicly, I'll take it down with a quickness. <thumbsup> -
Where did you find these, man? I'll be passing through there next week, so I'll stop and pick some up.
-
Good deal, man. <thumbsup> Thanks for the update, and I'm glad it's working for you. I'll lock it up now, but if for some reason you need it unlocked again, just send me a PM about it.

I've been lusting after one of these things for quite awhile, now, brother - it was only a matter of time, but I now wish I'd built it a long time ago. I'm gonna like this one. ;D

Look for a small c-clip on the rod. That's an AR-15 thing, and it might be on yours.

I agree with Robo 110%. My previous opinion was based on alot of things, most of which were unstated - I just stated my opinion, without any qualifying reasons why I feel that way. 1st. One of my very best friends is a retired ICE agent. We hung around all the time before I retired from the Army, and when I moved back to AZ last year, we're right back at it. He's finally retired now. Well, when he's just out and about, he still has to do his duty - duty that he made a career of. We're 12 miles north of Mexico. Illegals are everywhere, here. poop, we might be out in the desert, shooting, and if we run up on something, he still has to respond - that's what he's dedicated to. The illegals don't know he's retired, but that doesn't matter. They see someone armed, with a Border Patrol hat on, and they ALTO. Right now. Then, he's stuck with detaining them until the phone calls are made, and active agents show up to take custody of the fuc "Undocumented Immigrants" - UDIs. LEOs definitely DO deserve more leniency. I'm retired Army - I don't deserve it, but my job was protecting outside the US borders. Not inside the US borders. Those that are here inside these borders, protecting all of us - they deserve it. Kalifornia's stupid laws are another story. Their restrictions on their citizens are ridiculous. Don't hold that against their LEOs.

Great results, brother - great. Love the build. <thumbsup> Curious about how many other ACOGS you've got laying around, too... <lmao> I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. So much stuff stashed away. ;D

Gimme a few minutes - I'll try to make it a little more aesthetically pleasing for you... <lmao> Nevermind - I thought I had some FDE paint, but I'm all out... <dontknow> <laughs> This little fella does have his own thread... http://308ar.com/forum/black-rifles/the-next-black-rifle-build/

There's not too much on the web about this - I think alot of people are trying to keep this quiet. As of yesterday, and the day before, when you'd Google it up, there were only TWO hits. It's been kept under wraps pretty well. This was the very first announcement of it: Big shakeup at AAC I’m getting credible reports that Kevin Brittingham was escorted from the premises of Advanced Armament Corporation this morning. I’m told Freedom Group reps and lawyers were on hand with security guards to lead AAC’s founder out of the building. John Day from Freedom Group is rumored to be the interim president of AAC. The firing comes as Brittingham is reportedly only partway through the contract he signed when he sold AAC to Freedom Group back in 2009. I don’t think this will end quietly or easily for Remington or their parent company the Freedom Group. UPDATE: I spoke with AAC’s John Hollister who said, “Kevin is no longer with AAC, but it’s business as usual today.” Hollister didn’t elaborate on any other aspects of the story except to confirm that Mr. John Day is “in the building today.” http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/2011/12/21/big-shakeup-at-aac/ Defense Review was the only other site that broke the news. By today, it has spread much, much more. Cerberus and Freedom Group... they're gonna wish they hadn't done this, once it all shakes out. <dontknow>

DONE!!! <thumbsup> I'm going to try to shoot it in the morning, before work. AR in .45 ACP. It's a 16" barrel with carbine handguards, as it comes from Olympic Arms. I had the rifle length MOE and the Armalite clamp-on front sight base two days ago. When this sucker got delivered this morning, I beat the pins out of the front sight base and removed it and the carbine handguards. 10 minutes later, it had the other stuff on it, and the A1 front sight post, detent and spring crossed over. Eventually, maybe January at the soonest, it'll have a dedicated .45 ACP lower that runs on the old M3 grease gun mags. <thumbsup> WooHoo!!! ;D
-
This is so much easier than you think, brother - all you have to do with the parts in the pic below is add a complete lower. If you go with the flat top upper, then you'll have to add a rear back up sight. <thumbsup> http://olyarms.net/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.pbv.v8.tpl&product_id=101&category_id=70&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=5 Get the upper from Rainier Arms with your MIL/LEO discount, too - it's a decent discount. ;D Here's my .45 ACP AR: You know you wanna do it - and it's a hell of alot easier than you think. <lmao>

Someone here was just looking for one of these, but they had a long wait quoted to them - I'd tip this off to them, but I can't find who it was... My Search-Fu is weak tonight. :o

California Cop, in any capacity = target by many crazy, or just plain bad, people for all kinds of reasons. They deserve the lattitude that they get for firearms, and probably need them. From a December 2002 letter: "The more than 100,000 professional peace officers serving with you in California urge you to become a "hero" by supporting this most worthwhile project." California Peace Officers Association So, the number has probably grown overall, but comparing figures: Less than 10% of the California Police populace owns firearms that "normal" Californians aren't permitted to own. No big deal, IMHO. <dontknow>
