Well, I went back today just to look at the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle a little better... and it followed me home. :o So, I threw a mini red dot on it until I decide on a variable power scout-type scope... <dontknow> Whatever the magnified optic is, it's going into a set of Larue LT719 QD rings. <thumbsup> It was actually $120 under MSRP, and I talked the manager into another $50 off as a military discount. ;D 10-rd single stack mag:

ATF Ruling 2011-4, Concerning AR Pistols and Rifles
98Z5V replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
You can still Form 1 an AR pistol into an SBR. <thumbsup> -
That is a Cabela's Pine Ridge tactical turret scope, 3-9x40, with the .308 turrets on it. It was a temp, but I really like how it's holding up. I'll keep it on there until I kill it, but it's been great so far.

All that "gun show loophole" stuff is a pile of shi... They talked about that the whole time I was in VA. I hit every major and minor gunshow there while I was there, bought several things, and there was ALWAYS a 4473 filled out and a call-in made. The "loophole" didn't exist. The politicians already know this: they're not going to stop criminals from getting firearms. They're trying to scare the uneducated public with anything they can, to pass what they really want - they don't want the legal, law-abiding citizens to have the firearms, either, and that is what they can stop.

It's been pretty bad from CA through AZ. I was across the Cali border all week following T-Day, playing in the sand dunes. The winds weren't bad then, and smoothed out the dunes every morning - brand new riding place, every day, it seemed. <thumbsup> I drove back to SE Arizona last Wednesday night, and it was a rough drive back. :o The winds have been going ever since. Got some snow in the mountains here last night. Temps down in town are mid-to-high 30s during the night, low-to-mid 40s during the days. Terrible. <dontknow> Some of the winds here were over 70mph - that's a bunch of BS. >:(

Send that sucker off to ADCO, and have them shorten/rethread the barrel, as well as re-profile it to a lighter profile. That will probably be much cheaper than even getting a new barrel. <thumbsup>

12.75 lbs, just like this. No ammo in the mag, but mag installed. 20rds of ammo brings it up another pound. Details of it are in here: http://308ar.com/forum/dpms-lr-308-general-technical-discussion/lr308-self-build/

Just tryin' to do my part to get this country back on track, brother... <lmao>

Undecided, but possibly a variable pistol scope - that would be easy, and it would give the eye relief in the forward-mounted position. <dontknow> Still looking, right now.

Local Big 5 in town today, innocently enough. <dontknow> Just went to see what they had for gun cases, and I noticed the rifles in the racks, behind the counter. I saw a .308 steel magazine sticking out of something in the back of the rack, and it had the unique Ruger flash suppressor on the end of the barrel - ask the counter man to please let me see that particular rifle, and he pulls out the Gunsite Scout... :o Now, their price was $100 under Ruger's MSRP, too. Ah poop. :-[ I've been wanting to play touchy-feely with one of these since they were announced and released, but I've never seen one in the wild, before today. It is impressive. Very nice feel when shouldering it, balanced pretty well, and the iron sights are quite good. Needless to say, I'll be back in the store tomorrow to check it out some more. Say, "Merry Christmas to ME..." <laughs>

Roger, that is excellent! <thumbsup>

Items still needed: BADASS, NM A2 front sight post (stock A1 sight post in there now), Fulton NM A2 flash suppressor, and the Young NM M16 BCG (BCM BCG in there now). It's a shooter right now, though. <thumbsup>

Don't rule out Varget, if those two don't give you what you're looking for. <thumbsup>

Cupcakes and Twinkies... <laughs> <lmao>

Major progress has been made, and the rifle is now in full firing form - completely functional. I still want a couple different things on it before I'd call it "finished," but at least I can shoot it right now. Pics later tonight... <lmao> <munch>

Troy TRX extreme, and an adjustable .936 gas block under the rail????
98Z5V replied to Horsemen's topic in .308AR Parts
Post up some pics of the interference, man, so I can take a look at where it's hitting. This might be easier than you think. <thumbsup> I "massaged" a YHM Specter gas block to fit under a DD RIS II rail, so this might not be too bad. -
How much are the transfers and taxes that you guys have to pay?!!? :o

I haul my .308 in one of the Plano 42" versions - great case. Anybody hunting for these cases on the internet should search for the "Plano All Weather" cases. <thumbsup>

Considering a Mega Machine AR and MA-TEN Group Buy offering
98Z5V replied to branson1369's topic in For Sale or Trade
Mega lists him as a Master Dealer, as has done so for quite some time. <thumbsup> Dave has been in that category for a long time now. 8) -
Update - RRA got the barrels in, didn't notify my that the parts "weren't in stock" after placing my order, and now the barrels are going out to be built. A barrel nut needs to be added, then the handguard cap, then the pinning of the NM FSB. Apparently, they don't do this in-house, but send it out. I told them to hold the shipment intil next Monday, since I'll be gone for the T-Day holiday anyway. It should arrive sometime next week. At that point, I'll assemble the upper, and should have it shooting NLT Sunday, 4 December. <thumbsup> I still won't have the Young NM BCG until mid-December, but I'll get the thing shot before then. :o

Barrel Nut / Free Float Tool
98Z5V replied to Bullseyeshooter's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I've got this barrel nut wrench, but bought it for the AR-15 builds that I do. I haven't built any Armalite AR-10s yet, so I can't say if it would work on DPMS-based builds. The handguard I used for my DPMS-based .308 AR build was a Troy MRF-308, and that's basically the stock AR-10 barrel nut with DPMS threading - it installs with wrench-flats. I used a bigass crescent wrench on it. <thumbsup> -
hobbes, please tell me your van is a Dodge van with the 318 engine... I can help you more than you know, if that's the case. Engine, Trans, whatever - I can help with that. <thumbsup> On the other hand, if you have Ford minivan, you're just about fugged. Those things are crap-magnets, and about the only thing that can help with that is an unknowing dealer that accepts it in trade. <dontknow> <laughs>

That Bobro stays, brother... <thumbsup> ;D

Need a good trigger for hunting.
98Z5V replied to flyfishrman's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Wash, those RRA triggers are known to get soft and start messing up, over time. That's all over the 'net, brother. By the time one goes on you, and you replace it with another RRA NM copy, you've spent the same money. When the next RRA goes, you've now lost money... Just sayin'. <dontknow> I go with the guy with the guarantee.
