  1. If I went 16", I'd get this barrel - 2 inches less swing-weight, and about 4oz lighter than the same 18" barrel: https://www.ballisticadvantage.com/16-inch-308-tacgov-mid-ss-premium-barrel.html Finish the barrel with a VG6 Gamma 300BLK brake - it's a 2-chamber brake, and shorter than the .308 brake, which is a 3-chamber. Afterwards, you can add a VG6 CAGE device to it to cut down on the side-blast concussion. You can add the CAGE device to the .308 brake - but it's not as long as the .308 brake (that extra chamber), so it won't work as well. This stuff: https://www.vg6precision.com/vg6-gamma-300blk https://www.vg6precision.com/vg6-cage-device
  2. This is some good info to go from, right here. And, @DNP has a great point... You're a barrel-change away if you don't think that 16" gets it done at 800 yards. And a 16" can get it done out there... If I were to do it, and make this gun, with that list of specifications.... Aero Precision M5 upper and lower, Aero M5 Atlas S-ONE 12" M-LOK handguard. That's about the lightest freefloat rail that you'll find, that isn't made out of crazy materials. This one: https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/m5-atlas-s-one-m-lok-handguard 18" midlength gas barrel from BA. One of these two, right here - you just pick whether you want steel, or stainless steel: https://www.ballisticadvantage.com/18-inch-308-gov-mid-cmv-modern-barrel.html https://www.ballisticadvantage.com/18-inch-308-tacgov-mid-ss-premium-barrel.html They both weigh 39 oz. That stainless one, though, that Premium Series - that's a match barrel. Toss in a LaRue MBT-2S trigger - on sale until December 31st for $80 - and buy up the cheapest ToolCraft nitrided .308 BCG that you can find online... That would be the backbone of my build, if I were building this one. It'll shoot the lights out, you'd be able to carry it around, it won't weigh a ton - but it's gonna be a 12lb rifle once you get the optic on it... And it'll go 1000 yards with absolute ease, with 175gr match ammo. That's how I'd run it.
  3. P-Mags and Lancers for my .260. Both work equally well, never any issues from them in that gun, at all. They work well enough - that I haven't had a need to try anything else.
  4. Josiah told you directly where he found his - GunBroker. You can look there, and find one - it worked for him. If you read this whole thread, you'd realize how few of these there are on this board, and how they either appear or don't remain, for sale. It's pretty infrequent. If you read the whole thread. To make a first post here, and want this rail - it's pretty rare. I understand your search, believe me. I've been here for 10 years, and I've seen them all, here. I'm not trying to be rude, but I can be. What we see here often - and what you need to understand - people pop in here routinely, one post, asking for a certain item. Some one-post people pop in here DEMANDING information... that took years to learn... I've even had one guy tell me that because I knew the information that he was looking for, that I "owed it to the community" to give him that information... Well, Fuk Him. Took me a lot of trial and error, years of playing around, and alot of ammo to figure that out. That doesn't mean that I owe that jackass a damn thing for my diligence and hard work... Bottom line - become a member of this community, partake and enjoy. Put your time in, get to know people... But if you're a one-time wonder, nobody here owes you anything. If you take offense to that, then that's on you. If that shoe fits, then just lace that bitch up and go running with it. If you don't understand what I just stated, and you're all butt-hurt about it - then that's your own Pride, fucking with you. Grow thicker skin. Welcome aboard - I look forward to your Intro. You just missed this last one, and it went FAST. I hit that fast, after looking for one for YEARS. My persistence paid off, finally, watching this board for YEARS for it... I hope you get the point...
  5. Don't under estimate him - he'd hem you up with a hand-cut flint before you even knew what happened... That's Old School Indian, right there. Kid you not, brother.
  6. I smell a 7mm-08 AR on your horizon... I'm just sayin'... That's an awesome pic, by the way...
  7. Then, we're stuck with suggestions. We can't go any further without numbers on your lower, compared to a factory lower. We've seen some severe mag-catch height issues in other 80% guns, that caused feeding problems. That started a whole thread about mag-catch height, and it's here somewhere. Sorry, man.
  8. Minimum gas port diameter for a 16" Rifle-gas .308 Win barrel has to be 0.105". The max you can make a gas port diameter is 0.125" For a 16" rifle-gas barrel, there aren't many choices out there - but for the choices out there - that's the min diameter that will function the gun, for most quality guns. That's not directed at JT - that's info for the masses. Also, for .308 Win guns, there aren't any 16" barrels on the market with "carbine gas" - as far as you think of carbine gas systems - in AR-15s. They don't exist. The recoil would be so harsh that you'd wanna dive headfirst off a cliff. Don't confuse the "Armalite AR-10 Carbine Gas System" with ANY AR15 carbine gas stuff - the Armalite Carbine Gas system is 3/16" longer than the AR15 MIDLENGTH gas system. That's the way of the .308AR...
  9. That's a Mark LaRue Texas flag, right there.
  10. I would be honored if youbrought him with you, here, just to be honored with his presence here... For real.
  11. Go hit the Intro Section, tell us about yourself, put the time in here routinely, become a productive member of the group - and watch for the rail to come up. That happens a little over "once a year" but it's not often. To make this as your first post, though...
  12. Maaaaaaaaaan, that thing has SO MUCH potential!... Build it out!
  13. This is also an 80% lower that we're talking about - I just caught that. Everything that's going on here needs to have measurements in that 80% lower, confirmed to a full-production (functioning) lower, or we're wasting our time here. Mag catch height is first. Been down this road. That's not part of the 80% machining process, so it has zero to do with anything that the OP did during his machining. That doesn't mean that this 80% company didn't fuk that up - as we've seen all too well before. OP - you need to mic that lower out against a known functional, quality lower.
  14. The receiver extension is incorporated into that stock, so you need the UBR 2 (UBR Gen 2, ) to run an effective recoil system on a .308 AR. Then, you need the Armalite EA1095 recoil spring, and a 3.250" long H3 buffer. That's either any old AR15 H3 buffer, OR the Armalite AR-10 Carbine Buffer - those are the same exact thing. Ask questions about the info, if you want, but that info is solid. Lastly - you just received Free Information. Do what Doc said, and hit the intro section, and tell us about yourself. Pay for that information, by doing that.
  15. You're in bad shape, brother Doc. As soon as you set that up and shoot it, you'll want more G triggers... I kid you not...
  16. Those barrels are BADASS, brother.
  17. Another option is Ballistic Advantage for the barrel. They have a few profiles and lengths that Faxon doesn't have. I have multiple barrels from both those companies, and they're all great - not trying to sway you away from Faxon, if your mind is set on that. Just giving you options that are out there. Pick the best attributes that you want this gun to have, and what you want to do with it: 1. Most 2. "Still have that option or ability to do this...", and 3. "But, it still needs to be able to do this..." List those things out, and we can help you come up with a narrowed field of options. If you want a gun that you hunt with primarily, but you want it lighter and maneuverable, but you still want it to shoot 800 yards decently well... for example... I'd tell you to get a 16" barrel.
  18. I'll definitely vouch for any barrel that Ballistic Advantage makes. The ones that I have shoot the lights out, right out of the box. The most impressive one was the Mk12 Mod H 6.5 Grendel barrel. After 20 rounds through it (to re-zero/confirm a scope taken from another rifle, to break this in), I went directly to 500 yards with it. It put 8 rounds into a 5" high by 7" wide box at 500 yards. Brand new barrel. BA makes great barrels.
  19. That right there ^^^ - nobody else can answer for you. Only you can answer that one, and it depends on what you do with it most... Hit this up and tell us about yourself: https://forum.308ar.com/forum/22-introductions/
  20. Damn good job - great animal!
  21. 98Z5V

    Finally got one

This is a case when size doesn't matter, brother - it's still meat in the freezer. Damn good work.
  22. THAT is a steal of a deal! I paid $615 for my 930 SPX in September 2009 - and every year I watched the prices go up and up... Good to see the price back down there.
  23. No set time yet, but it's getting close to talking about it. Same venue, same activities for the most part, much smaller crowd. It's where we try to come up with new stuff for Fall Shoot, try it out, and incorporate it. It's where the High Angle came from. It's our test-run for Fall Shoot.
  24. Remember when I posted this article, based the the USSS National Threat Assessment Center report on Mass shootings in Gun Free Zones (MAPS - Mass Attacks in Public Spaces)? That was 5 months ago. They have a new report out now, on the "Analysis of Targeted School Violence." This is worth your time to read... https://www.secretservice.gov/data/protection/ntac/usss-analysis-of-targeted-school-violence.pdf
  25. I think this solidifies the answer to the question... "Think we HOOKED the CANADIAN?!!?..." You're done now, Eric. You're Family now... For Better or For Worse... and all that shiit...
