  3. I like that scope, Doc - alot. If I liked MOA alot, I'd have a pile of them. It's great. Until they make that reticle illumination pattern in the mil scopes and the HUD DMR scopes, that one will certainly be the king of "great scope with GREAT illumination pattern." Until then, I'll have to suck it up and keep using MEALS. Batteries die - at the most inopportune time. Technology- fails. Even the illumination can go out in my scope, and it won't be as easy to shoot 450 yards, at night. But... I can still do it. I know how to accurately estimate range, at any distance, without a laser range finder. I can do it with the graduations in my scope reticle, and the information that is stored in my brain, on target sizes. The batteries can die in my Kestrel, and all the sudden, I have no weather data, no wind data, and no Applied Ballistics program to tell me what to click to - as soon as my laser range finder bluetooths it to my Kestrel. They both have dead batteries now. But... I can still determine wind direction, wind speed, and make the adjustments necessary to hit my target. With my scope, and the information that is stored in my brain, on wind data. I will have to reference my printed dope charts if the wind is above 12mph, though. If I have to go off-angle to measure the wind speed, it's already above 12mph, and I'll need to look at my charts. But I can still do it. Does Camp Perry shoot an unknown distance course of fire? I think every shooting program there is at known distances. Get into an unknown distance situation, no laser range finder, and lay the smackdown on some targets. That's exactly why the high angle shooting is so different. It's the same as flat shooting, you just add another perspective that you have to master, and one more things to memorize and run the math geometry on. Come on out, with no gadgets, and let's get it done.

  6. It's 300BLK because it's a .30 cal device with 5/8 x 24 threads - that is the same threading we have on the 6.5 guns - mine are .260 Remington and 6.5 Grendel. The device works great - how is it compare to no muzzle device on there? I have no idea- I haven't shot it with no muzzle device. Worrying about the sound is not a reason to get a brake, but the way you've been describing things in this thread makes me wonder if what you really want is a brake, at all. Only you can answer that one. Many, many times, using a brake on the end of your barrel makes it seem LOUDER to you, as the shooter. That combo above doesn't cancel each other out, but it's pretty easy to shoot. With just the brake, it felt louder, and the CAGE device does do a little bit for that, in terms of felt or perceived concussion. That 6.5 Grendel that it's on barely wiggles the crosshairs in the scope, when you fire. The VG6 6.5 Gamma Brake is what's on my .260 Rem. It's 0.860" O.D. It's a 3-chamber brake, so that CAGE device would only cover the first two chambers on it - i.e., it mounts to it, but it's not made for it. The CAGE is made specifically for the 2-chamber brakes.

  9. The very definition of a brake - it's gonna be loud. You might want to look into a compensator instead. Or, and AAC Brakeout with the AAC Blastout mounted over it - that combination will redirect the concussion away from you, as the shooter, and still give you the benefit of the brake. I'm running a VG6 Gamma brake on a 6.5 Grendel, with the VG6 CAGE Device mounted to the brake. It gives me the benefit of a brake, but the CAGE device is a "diffuser" of sorts, that disrupts that side blast from the brake. I still wouldn't shoot it with no earpro, though.
  10. Call Badger Ordnance, and see if they have something for you. The issue you're going to run into will probably be threading. Most .875" diameter brakes are for 3/4" x 24 threading, not the 5/8" x 24 that you need. You try the VG6 Gamma 6.5 brake?
  11. Yep. We had a complete separate training class on wind reading at the Fall Shoot, and I specifically discussed using your scope to determine wind at different distances between you and the target.

    The Go button on mine can do a few things - it starts the countdown to a preset delay, before it beeps and starts counting. The beep is the audible for the shooter to go. I set mine for a 3-second delay, then the beep will sound, and timing starts, as well as shots recorded. You can turn that delay function off, so as soon as you hit the Go button, the beep sounds and timing starts. You can also set it up to run a PAR time. Say you want to get 10 rounds on target, from holster, and you give your self 3 or 4 seconds to do that. You set up the PAR function, and it beep at the beginning and at the end, letting you know you reached the time limit. The Go button starts that activity. My timer won't stop, until it shuts itself off from inactivity, or I physically turn it off. Once you hit that go button, it'll record shots until it runs out of battery power, if that's the case. If there are shots going, it's recording, once it's started. We've shot through courses before, with it clipped to my left pocket. We run the last one, and start doing different things. I'll look down, and it's still on, recording the 100th shot and 900 seconds later, for example...

  19. From commercially available lube, I'd say M-Pro 7. It is excellent. As a factory rifle, from that manufacturer, I really don't need to tell you to look at the recoil system, because that's not an issue here. Not with them. I'd have to lean on the lube side of the house on this, and the total round count through the gun. Shoot it more, and lube the hell out of it. Like, damn near dripping wet, but not quite. No lube in the chamber, though, or the barrel - don't need it there.

  24. As far as we've been able to trace down - that's an upper receiver dimensional issue. As of right now, there is no cure for it. The Tubb Carrier Weight System used to cure this very thing, but that product is discontinued. When you close your receivers, the back of the BCG should push the buffer off the buffer retainer, right when those receivers close. The buffer should never, ever touch the buffer retainer when the receivers are closed, and due to that, it will never contact the retainer during cycling. The only time the retainer "stops" the buffer, is when you open the receivers. The Tubb CWS added 0.080" to the back of the BCG body - thus, eliminating this issue.
