You're comparing Apples to Hammers, basically. You want to compare a 2-lug bolt locking system - sometimes, a 1-lug locking system - to an 8-lug locking system, over two different platforms. My go-to load for this rifle is: Hornady 150gr FMJBT 16.1 grains H110 Cut down Lake City 5.56 NATO brass CCI 400 primer COAL 2.080" Approx. 1900fps Running out of Pmags Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3, or from Lancer L5 AWM mags. Awesome load with some punch and some speed.

Build it regular and shoot it. If you NEED an adjustable gas block, you'll know. If you don't need one, you've built a rifle that's less complicated.

The Army issued rear sight fills the bill nicely. It's the MaTech. Search it out. You're not gonna be dead-on with your ranging impacts if you're using it for .308 Win, as it's designed for 5.56 NATO.

Interesting - never seen the tool to do this, though it exists for the 5.56 rifles... Basically, your upper has been lapped.

Tapered pins are a big deal, and alignment is critical, but Rainier Arms sells the jig that makes that particular job easy. With that thing, you can do it at home - with a hand drill. <thumbsup> I'll never pay someone to do something for me when I can buy the tools to complete that job, and spend the same amount or a little more. By doing it myself, even buying the tool, I've added a capability. Even if I only use it once.

Found 2 boxes of .224" Barnes 70gr TSX projectiles a few days ago, on the shelf. Snatched those bastards up quick. I haven't seen those projectiles in over 2 years.

Some 180s you can get mag length, most 180s, you can't. 175s are the most common heavy load, because almost all 175s can get to mag length.
