Hello all, i'm new to the ar10/ .308 world and was looking for some advice. I have made an ar15 in my past but I know the ar10s are a new ball game! I recently acquired a pre-ban knights armament lower/upper kit and was looking to make a marksman (sniper) rifle out of it. I was looking for your guys input on best barrel for this receiver, best gas block, and best lpk. knights armament unfortunately doesn't sell parts so ill have to make due with after market parts but I'm looking forward to using the knights armament quad rail. I've been told by a few people the sweet spot in regards to weight accuracy and overall function is a barrel in the 18-20" range. so if you guys can point me in the right direction that would be fantastic Thanks in advance for all the replies!!!!

what are you plans/ goals for the rifle? Are going to hump it through the woods? Is it going to be a target rifle? Those barrel lengths are fine, but a 16" with a shooter with capability is good for 800 yds, with less weight.

Also, the Knights rail uses a wrench that is proprietary, so you may have send it out to get mounted. Not a big deal but figured you may want to know.

I prefer Armalite for your parts kit, great springs, and a bolt catch second to none.

Geiselle trigger. Period.

My OBR uses a Lothar Walther barrel, LW50, I believe, and is 1/2 MOA or better with me shooting FGGM. I believe you can get it with a matched bolt, always a bonus. Also check out Criterion, a site sponsor, for a great barrel as well as JP and Rainier's Ultramatch

Welcome!

First off, what are your goals and requirements for this rifle (use cases, aesthetics, characteristics, and performance)? For instance, is weight a concern, do you want to emulate an SR-25ER or EMC build, ect.

thanks for the quick responses guys!! yes exactly I was planning on emulating the sr-25 ecr. weight isn't really an issue I just want a very accurate rifle upto ~ 300yrd. and I was lucky enough to get my hands of the upper lower kit from kac so Im just building up from there.

You'll be very well into the "capable range" of 600 yards with a 16" barrel.  Even a 14.5" barrel will do it well, with you doing your part.

300 will be effortless.

is there any big differences between the 16' and the 18' I figured id go a bit longer just incase some day I want to shoot further I have the capability. and does anyone know what platform the knights armament lower is it the armalite or DPMS "platform" I don't wanna buy parts and regret it. Thank you again guys

not sure how well the search function works in here, but there have been 2 kac builds in here recently. might get some good ideas from those threads. I don't remember what subforum they were in. id try to link them but its a pain from my phone.

There's not a big enough difference for the "once in awhile" long distance shooter. If the majority of your shooting was at 600+ then I'd suggest longer.

This ^^^ is on my "to do" list. I'm really just waiting for a lighter alternative than the KX5.

I may just have to design my own?!?!

Sadly, I can't pick it up at the PO until Tuesday...  :'(

Work will begin immediately.
