terraspatial Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Hi guys... So I joined up today because I needed to use the search function for the site! I'm not new to the AR platform, but I am new to the .308 caliber. This forum seemed very info-packed so I finally just quit lurking. About my builds: BIG BROTHER: .308AR based on a Tennessee Arms Co lower, DPMS Gen 1 upper. So far I've got the stock, buffer tube, buffer, LPK, trigger, grip, and upper. The lower is still in preorder status, and should ship in April. I'll be ordering a barrel next month from Black Hole Weaponry, likely an 18"rifle length. Having shopped sales for parts, it should come in around $700 by the time it's done. It's truly intended as a "budget" truck gun, primarily for use on Texas feral hogs and deer out to about 400 yards. It's going to look incredibly unoriginal, mostly dressed in Magpul MOE. Which, believe it or not, suits me fine, as I intend to make it work for its supper. No safe queens here. LITTLE BROTHER: AR15 in the 5.56 caliber, built off a Spike's Punisher lower and Aero Precision upper. Lower is complete, still undecided on the barrel make, but shooting for a 16" mid-length, CHF if I can track one down within budget. Like it's big brother, Magpul furniture, ugly but hard-working. This one will probably be a paper puncher. The big differences between the two aside from caliber and barrel length will likely be that the 308 will get a scope on a QD mount and red dot on a QD riser, a mount for a green light, and a bipod mount. The AR15 will have a red dot on a riser, both will have backup flip sights. Willing to take any and all feedback. Mostly interested in seeing photos comparing and contrasting the differences between the DPMS Gen 1 and 2 uppers.
Rsquared Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Welcome aboard my man. Sounds like you've got a plan there.
Matt.Cross Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Welcome to the forums terraspatial, sounds like you've got two real nice builds going on there.
Armed Eye Doc Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Welcome from Texas. What part of Texas are you in?

Matt.Cross Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 Mostly interested in seeing photos comparing and contrasting the differences between the DPMS Gen 1 and 2 uppers. You mean for the .308 right? So far we don't have any members that have posted comparison photos... They're pretty much GEN I and GEN II rifles. I don't think the lowers are the same... Right. So was it upper receiver differences you wanted to know about, or lower receiver differences?
98Z5V Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 beachmaster has the GII. Shot that one at the end of Dec range trip - what a sweet, sweet shooting rifle. I honestly didn't want to like the GII - too different, too whatever... But the damn design is brilliant. <thumbsup>
terraspatial Posted January 28, 2015 Author Report Posted January 28, 2015 You mean for the .308 right? So far we don't have any members that have posted comparison photos... Right. So was it upper receiver differences you wanted to know about, or lower receiver differences? Both, if possible. It would be great for future reference.
Matt.Cross Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 Both, if possible. It would be great for future reference. As far as I know, the AR-15 platform they only feature the standard flat-top uppers or carry handle style, they aren't really defined under generational status to my knowledge.
