jtallen83
The administration appears to be taking a new step against AR-15 ammo; https://www.nraila.org/articles/20150213/batfe-to-ban-common-ar-15-ammo Most online vendors are sold out already. My wife just went and grabbed all that was left at the local Walmart, I can't buy any ammo here in the peoples republic of Massachusetts so I didn't bother to look here........ Same here but I like to have some around anyway, it does do a bit better on some barriers. Worries me what they will try next if this works for them......... blue109
I don't understand how an agency can ban anything without going through the normal channels of creating a law. this poop needs to end
survivalshop
Well its because they used a small clause in the law & you can thank the polarity of the AR pistol for it . You can thank Olympic Arms for starting this , they were warned making a pistol of the AR ,that something like this would happen & that was a long time ago ( IMO has no strategic value at all, except a FUN gun ). What I can't understand is ,if it can be used in a pistol , why not ban it from pistols made in that caliber , why the over reaching & banning it all , since there's no law against AP ammo in a rifle ? <dontknow> They have over stepped their authority , once again ! StainTrain
I posted something similar to this in the politics section. This isn't the first time they have tried this. Keep on your Rep and Senators, NRA, GOA, and please add comments to ATF rule change like most of us did with 41P.

98Z5V
Here's a link to their "Framework for Determination" paper that they published. They carefully worded this, and this is what they're going to try to stand on to ram the new regulation down the American throats: http://www.atf.gov/sites/default/files/assets/Library/Notices/atf_framework_for_determining_whether_certain_projectiles_are_primarily_intended_for_sporting_purposes.pdf They tried something similar to this a few years ago for rifle ammo, and I've been reporting on it ever since. They (the agency) made some bullschit "armor piercing" determination, and Barnes Bullets pulled their TSX line. Barnes filed for exemptions for many calibers, and did not include .224" diameter in that list - and we saw 70gr TSX loaded ammunition practically disappear. For the record, 70gr TSX projectiles in the .224" diameter are available again - if you look hard. Read that determination paper in the link above ^^^... It provides insight to the mentality... jtallen83
Basically their mentality has been to do everything they can to prevent a citizen from defending himself against a tyrannical government, the original intent of the 2nd amendment. There has been a steady march to this beat since the NFA. This will not stop anytime soon no matter how many of us complain to congress. Our answer should follow along the lines of King Leonidas's response to Xerxes when asked to surrender his weapons and live; "Come and take............" anything else will only allow them to march further down this road. Soldiers and veterans won't die off. I just got back from shooting with a Vietnam vet that's full of piss and vinegar. We've been at war for something like 210 years of our 240 year history. What will kick it off is overbearing arrogant puppets...much like the one in office now.

guruofhotrod
Quote from ATF doc "When the only readily available handgun that can accept a cartridge containing the projectile is objectively and primarily sporting, it may reasonably be inferred that the likely use of that projectile will also be objectively and primarily sporting. Conversely, when a handgun’s objective design is not limited to primarily sporting purposes, such as handguns designed to be carried and concealed, it may be reasonably inferred that ammunition capable of use in such handguns is unlikely to be used primarily for sporting purposes." So, they are suggesting that AR pistols are designed to be "carried and concealed"? really? perhaps if you are wearing a trench coat! Even with a 7" or 7.5" barrel an AR pistol is a fairly bulky firearm that would be pretty tough to conceal - these guys need to get a little better understanding of what they're trying to regulate. 98Z5V
- these guys need to get a little better understanding of what they're trying to regulate. Oh, make no mistake - this one won't be "pushed over" onto the public in an easy manner. They're starting some serious schit when they raised this as an issue. jtallen83
This crap is going on all over the government. The DOT is working on a regulation that would mandate tire registration. Manufacturers will have to serialize tires and then keep track of who bought which tires. They say it is a safety issue meant to insure bad tires can be recalled. Problem is there is a law on the books that makes this a voluntary step for the manufacturer. The DOT claims there safety mandate precludes this law. I've heard the Secretary of transportation say on several occasions that it is to bad they have to work with congress on issues they could manage themselves, like funding.WTF, have they all gone mad or did they just never read the constitution........ StainTrain
I think some people are deeply in love with central planning. Manufacturers will have to serialize tires and then keep track of who bought which tires. That part in red already happens. Tires are individually serialized, and each one has a separate number. It's only stamped into one side of the tire, so many people don't ever see it or know it. It's not on both sides. The individualized by-person registration is straight over-reaching bullschit, though. Fuk that. I think some people are deeply in love with central planning. There are only about a handful of things that .gov should have their hands in. Ammo and Guns ain't in that handful. As are alot of things, my brother. The .gov needs to get it's nose out of alot of schit that it has no business in... IMHO, of course...
