BadBoyBilly Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 So I need to buy a handguard for my 20" AR 308 build (also could use one for an AR15 too). I came across SLR Rifleworks handguards. This specific one caught my eye: http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=66_107_112_110&product_id=429 I've never bought any of their products before. I've been googling them and I haven't found anything bad about them. Curious to know if anyone on here has any experience with these rails? All I really care about is they install and line up true/straight and stay snug.
98Z5V Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 What upper receiver are you building on? That's really the determining factor.
BadBoyBilly Posted February 22, 2015 Author Report Posted February 22, 2015 I have a Rainer Arms Upper/Lower receiver set: http://www.rainierarms.com/rainier-arms-ultramatch-billet-upper-ambi-lower-combo-set-308 It's a DPMS high profile and the handguard I referenced is a DPMS high as well. I'm pretty sure they are compatible. I'm just curious if these are quaility rails or are they complete garbage? I bought a rail system couple years back from X company for an AR build and I wasn't very satisfied with the fit. Since then I'm very cautious with products from companies i'm not familiar with.
Robocop1051 Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 SLR is reletively new, but proven to be quality. I'm even debated replacing my beloved APEX for an SLR Mlok. I'd say you can buy with confidence. The "Rule" is in effect. We all look forward to your review. Lol
BadBoyBilly Posted February 22, 2015 Author Report Posted February 22, 2015 Thanks Robo. Yea I came across a thread on AR15.com where members used the SLR handguard rails on their builds. No negative press from what I could find in the thread. I think I'm going to take the plunge.....
crimsonfalcon07 Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 SLR has great CS in my experience too, and pretty fast shipping. I look forward to your review.
FaRKle! Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 The "Rule" is in effect. We all look forward to your review. LolI thought somebody here bought one. I remember asking them about the SLR's weight.
Matt.Cross Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 I thought somebody here bought one. I remember asking them about the SLR's weight. Unless you can dig up said conversation or they chime in and fess up, the Rule prevails!
BadBoyBilly Posted February 23, 2015 Author Report Posted February 23, 2015 Well looks like I'm going to be the guinea pig. Ordered placed.
BadBoyBilly Posted February 23, 2015 Author Report Posted February 23, 2015 They ship on Sunday's? Just got an email that my order shipped from when I placed the order earlier this afternoon.
crimsonfalcon07 Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 That probably means they generated a shipping label. It will likely go out tomorrow.
5829BMG Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 I installed the 15" solo lite on my Maten and loved it. Super easy to install, is the perfect height on the top rail and lines up straight as an arrow with almost zero gap. Torque the set screws down and it wont go anywhere. I like his stuff so much I changed to the 14" Solo series with the integrated rail on it for my LRA bi-pod same deal perfect fit. I also use his adjustable gas blocks all top notch stuff no worries there. And he ships very fast if its in stock. You will need a 1 3/8 crows foot to torque the nut properly.
BadBoyBilly Posted February 24, 2015 Author Report Posted February 24, 2015 Great, that's exactly what I wanted to hear.
McCannicalBob Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 I have the 14" M-Lok Solo. I love it. It fits perfectly, is very light, and looks great. Mine has the rail sections at the front end which are perfect for my bipod. I'm about to order another for an AR15.
BadBoyBilly Posted March 16, 2015 Author Report Posted March 16, 2015 I haven't forgotten about this. So I got the rail a couple weeks back and was going to put the upper together and realized that I did not have a freaking gas tube!!!! So ended up having to place an order for one. I got it this past weekend and I was going to spend some time this upcoming weekend and put it together. Then I got a notification this morning that my buttstock kit which has been out of stock for MONTHS finally shipped! So looks like i'm going be completing my 308 build this weekend!!!
BadBoyBilly Posted March 22, 2015 Author Report Posted March 22, 2015 I have to say I'm pretty happy with the rail. Installation was a breeze, super light, appears to line up true. Yea I'm a fan.
