Old Bugeater
I'm looking to buy a .308 ar. I'm going to buy a factory rifle and I'm wondering who makes the most accurate rifle right out of the box? I know everyone has their favorites and I'm interested to hear what the general consensus is. I've read about most of the major players like DPMS, LWRC, S&W, etc. etc. and can't seem to find out who's the most accurate with what ammo. I'm not looking to spend a ton on a custom, just something I can get over the counter at my local shop. Thanks for any/all input from the forum. D.R.D.
Supposedly LaRue seems to have the most accounts of amazing performance and reliability. I think a few people here have one. It's quite a wait to get one though, I hear. Ammo will just depend on that particular rifle. You'll need to test the usual suspects if you're planning on shooting factory loads, like Federal 168BTHP, 175SMK, Nosler, Hornady, and for extended ranges even check out Litz's ABM www.BuyABMAmmo.com Edited May 7, 2015 by D.R.D. Malig8r
I would argue that often times it has more to do with the shooter than the weapon. Granted there are platforms out there that have tighter tolerances but I know that I have been able to pick up a weapon that "must be something wrong with it" and been able to shoot at least MOA if not better. bubbasks
Agreed. Many rifles will out shoot their owners.

98Z5V
Only if you're Mark Larue. I don't think you are.

Robocop1051
I mean what if the build I'm working on can out shoot one of LaRue's tac drivers... You can't. You can build one that shoots "as good" but I've never seen one that can "out shoot" a LaRue. The LaRue currently shoots sub-.5MOA... same with the GAP10... people are posting pics of .2-.3 groups shooting those rifles. Are you able to build a sub-.25 rifle? If so, why aren't you designing rifles as a profession? BubbaSKS has a tackdriving .308AR, all home built. Thousands less than the name brand off the shelf rifles, and shoots "as good" as any of them.

StainTrain
The thing about LaRue and to a slightly lesser extent the M110, is the round after round accuracy (I would say reliability, but the KAC can be finicky) . Some State Guys run the Gap-10 and I am becoming more and more impressed with them. Sure you can build a very accurate rifle, but is it accurate after a couple of 10 round groups? That is where Mark LaRue, George Gardner, and the boys in Titusville show their worth. All three rifles are beefy.

StainTrain
I wonder if Ga Precision is hiring, Titusville is right up the road a ways from my house.... KAC is Titusville. GA is in North Kansas City....they need to hire someone to answer the phone and return calls. ??? That being said, their "gunsmiting" is nothing short of spectacular. ChaseFan9
Either way, I'd work for cheap if those guys would teach me their ways. I've always wanted to build guns for a living(especially precision rifles), and my current job is working me to death for next to nothing with little possibility of advancement. I can answer phones, mop floors, clean bathrooms, whatever it takes to get a foot in that shop door.
