New to AR-10 build

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

Built my first AR-15 and now moving up a notch. Recently purchased a matched upper and lower and learned that I can use PMAGS. Don't know which platform these recievers are built upon (waiting for an e-mail response from the manufacturer) the AR10 or DPMS. I am given to understand that all parts are not created equal in compatability in this AR 308 world, no? Is there a comprehensive thread or recommended book y'all like where I can learn more?

jtallen83,

Thanx for the reply. Logic states that if the lower accepts PMAGS then the minor list starts here:

Magpul UBR stock

Car-10 xh buffer and modified buffer spring.

Honestly, that's as far as I've gotten on a perceived possibility concerning compatability. Oh good Lord so much to learn!

Armalite makes a model that takes P-mags so your receiver selection is open there. You'll have a wider selection for BCG's and barrels with the DPMS format, that is the biggest advantage I saw with going that route. My Matrix receiver has Armalite threads, takes P-mags but I have the DPMS BCG and barrel extension, confused yet? What are you looking for in a rail and what will the purpose of the rifle be, long range, bench shooting, hunting?

You need to post a manufacturer and or some pictures of you're receivers.  There's a wealth of knowledge here willing to help you out.  (I'm referring to the people that have helped me out!)  Until you have more to tell us you should take the time to read about what others have done, and this forum is a great place to start.

Here's a few pointers.  LPK's for 308 seem pretty universal except takedown pins.  It's easiest to buy takedown pins direct from your receiver manufacturer.  Stocks and buffer assemblies are also pretty universal for 308's.

Torin   I gotta question for you.....why do you want to spend that kind of money on a 80% lower/upper when you can get a fully machined matched set for the same price or 50 bills more? Almost forgot...the jig is another 100 plus....so now you are way above a fine 100% matched upper/lower.... since you havnt  assembled an ar308, and havnt a clue as to what it takes to put one together from  a 100% set....why would you want to interject even more variables?    Wash

beeks,

For me it's about the build not the money involved. Any idiot,  background check and waiting period notwithstanding ,  can buy a firearm. But to learn and build one....PRICELESS.

Good luck on your build my brother!!!!

says the guy who didn't thoroughly read the discription of the lower he just bought ;)

For me that's half of it.  If I get one I will try to do some decorative personalizing as well.

Someone poop in your Wheaties this morning Wash?

It certainly was you, with your comments.  I'm positive of that.

You built one AR15, and you think you're en fuego, so you decide to do an 80% .308 AR platform, and you can't read the product description to determine what fucking pattern it is.

After that, you talk shiit to people here.

You're gonna be fun.  For a little while anyway.

not to mention you're not building anything really. You're assembling and drilling a few holes with a guide. Tread lightly or you'll be learning how to do this solo.
