Fletch
Good discussion. I think they all made good points. My opinion is that the root of the problem isn't the police or even the criminals for that matter...we seem to have adopted this "save everyone from everything" mentality and "enforce every rule/law/code, no matter how minor, as if everyone is on some "most-wanted" list. I remember in law classes how we talked about "better to let 10 guilty people go free than jail 1 innocent person"...and how our system is supposed to be "innocent until proven guilty". Now it seems the attitude is "guilty until proven innocent" and "better to jail 10 innocent people than let 1 guilty person go free". For that there is plenty of blame to go around...certainly our nanny-state minded politicaians (on both side of the aisle), the media, the social-engineer do-gooder types, etc...essentially the "status-quo". These police shootings (or being shot) are not the "problem" IMO...they are a symptom of much deeper issues...and we seem to be a long way off from even starting to tackle those issues. Fletch
Also, there seems to be this 'police are good' vs. 'police are bad' theme whenever I hear/read about this stuff...way too oversimplified IMO. There are good cops and there are scumbag cops...there are criminals (black, white, or other) that deserve to be shot, and there are a lot of good normal people who shouldn't be treated like criminals because they have an expired license plate, jaywalk, or have a broken tail light. MikedaddyH
I have a point I would like to make; What if police detectives started investigations on all people with Political Science Degrees and nit picked every little offense which they have done just to see their reaction. Wonder what kind political reaction the Congress would make and how long it would take to change and stop the Police from their investigations. ❓❓❓ D
planeflyer21
/\/\/\/\ Someone already is doing that. Don't know who. Every politician. Every public official. And as soon as they come out to change things, out comes the news of their transgressions and out come the criminal charges.

survivalshop
I really don't think the US of A will be a better place if LEO patrols are stopped . It is true , there are far too many laws , look how the LIbfarts want to make it illegal to be against Global warming , WTF ?
MikedaddyH
This just reenforced the that the united states has a major drug problem. Our country is repeating it's history , the country had an alcohol problem at the beginning of the last century which resulted in prohibition and the rise of the Mafia which caused gang warfare across the country ! Now the war on drugs is having the same effect . Cartels have a major influence throughout the country which violence and death has followed its path. Prisons are filled with drug offenders and police forces main focus are drug bust. The last time around the country escaped this problem by getting in a world war. So that is what will happen next in our future !

Sisco
Too many laws, and the too much pressure on the LEOs to enforce them all. We need fewer laws to enforce, and fewer reasons to hate and disrespect police. They don't deserve it, and have been put in a tough position. jtallen83
Amen on fewer laws, a smaller less powerful government! The problems police have now are directly related to our thirst as a nation for an all encompassing federal government. When the police cannot solve all our problems society gets angry with them instead of reflecting on what they themselves can do about their own problems. survivalshop
Wonder what could have happened if this patrol would not of arrived or is that what this guy wanted ? https://www.yahoo.com/news/man-dead-exchanging-gunfire-baltimore-officers-052844553.html
jtallen83
The fact that no details besides a picture of the "AR 15 style rifle " had been released says a lot. Like the rifle type really mattered.
mineralman55
Ooow! They found "shell casings" at the scene from an "AR 15 style" rifle. Oooow, what an indictment! That's the most important thing yahoo can report? How about the shooter's rap sheet? Race? Intentions? His affiliations? How about some facts? The final paragraph is irrelevant and idiotic, as it has nothing to do with the actual incident. This is not reporting, this is deliberately inflammatory nonsense. unforgiven
It is the drug=chemical problem in this country. The gang warfare for those profits goes hand in hand.
MikedaddyH
Police shooting in Baton Rouge today 7 cops shot and 3 killed. This is like 1991 after the Rodney King beating. Our country is repeating it mistakes again. Martial law may just happen.
