Sisco Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 The Mantra:" every firearm is different, work up to maximum loads" cannot be repeated often enough. I had flattened primers with 42 grs of RE 15. behind 175's. That chart shows i should have started lower. And I should have.
survivalshop Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) Do the Fusion rounds have a heavy Crimp ? Edited January 23, 2017 by survivalshop
Magwa Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 Did you trim the new lapua brass all new brass should be sized full length then trimmed to proper oal....also inside case primer pocket clean out and outside pocket primer clean out to give uniform depth there will be brass splinter from the inside primer pocket on first firings because they are stamped from the outside in and leave a little lip which should be cleaned prior to shooting to give uniform ignition....

I thought something similar to that as well. Took it to the gunsmith and reload shop this morning. They said absolutely normal to have some slivers like that. I've only Put 100 rounds thru it and he told me to continue to clean and lube and clean and lube. No pressure issues going on and seat and crimp looked fine on my hand load. I guess I just got a little paranoid. I still don't really understand the reason the fusion shot like crap out of my AR10. Thanks everybody for the replies and suggestions.

I've found Hodgdon data to be on the hot side, especially for gas guns. Sierra, in several conversations with me, said their max charges for gas guns is one increment below their listed max. Their max listed loads are for bolt guns. YMMV. Just be safe. 100 rounds thru these guns and they're still breaking in.
Matt.Cross Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 The fusion shot like crap because it's soft tip, but don't take my word for it. Load a mag up, fire one shot and then cycle the next unfired round out manually and look at how beat up the following round got on the way into the chamber. When you see how deformed it can get, you'll understand why the inconsistencies. Soft tips aren't for ARs.
