Build 308 around barrel

Recommended Posts

no telling when a good deal shows up.. what barrel and profile are you after? bcg and barrel are most important I think and you can work from there.

Sure, why not, you gotta start somewhere - just make sure your bolt style matches your barrel extension ie: DPMS type/DPMS type or Armalite/Armalite

makes since. just been going a little crazy looking at tons of different parts decided that I should pick one thing out and build around it.

so you need sr25 pattern/ dpms bolt to match. as a rule it should be head spaced either buy you or a gun smith.

There are many other barrels out there and some are better on the budget?

you are on the right path if thats what fits your plan.

I'd look into the 308 match-type barrels from the 3 barrel makers we have as site sponsors, over that DMPS barrel.  Any barrel you get from Faxon Firearms, Ballistic Advantage, or Criterion barrels is going to be comparable in prices, and shoot circles around that DPMS barrel.

The Fulton Armory barrel on this page is badass - so are the other two:

All of these are excellent:

Same here - excellent:

Im starting to locate parts for my first build and found a barrel I like. is it wise to start a build focused around a specific barrel?

A few of us have started from ejector springs.....

lol probably bench but maybe some hunting (long range hogs). armed eye doc told me of someone that had an extra roll pin and said that would be his next build or something like that. hooked....most definitely.

Can you blame her? I don't even know you and I'm curious about how much coin you're gonna drop here

Builds that start out seeming reasonable tend to morph. I have full respect for those that can set a budget, pull the trigger on the parts and be done!

I think she keeps looking so I will keep a budget. I have a feeling she has her eye on something.

Yep, she wants to spend some of your OT money.  She deserves it though.

Build the first one for her. Then how can she complain about you building a second one for yourself? That way you already have two in the safe.
