Cunuckgaucho
I wonder if you could buy just the top bracket? then make the rest including the base with 2x4 definitely cheaper and likely lighter,
98Z5V
I've got a Border Patrol guy that makes targets in his (house) shop in his spare time. He could pull that off, easy, brother.
DNP
That base looks heavy to tote around. Use one of those 4x4 post mailbox bases with a spike on the end. Put a couple bolts through it to limit the size to 2x4. or just make an angle iron brace like we had for the 1x2’s. Don’t have a picture of it handy. You can buy similar tops on the web somewhere. I’ve seen them before. Edited November 14, 2019 by DNP
98Z5V
Just hang that shiit off t-posts, some chain from the steel target, and 550 cord from the chain to the t-posts. That's the best thing that we've ever come up with here, for this place. Dirk is the one that came up with that one, after you fuckers shot every target stand/base that we tried to come up with ever, in the past... I swear, even the t-posts... Some of you guys can hit a one-inch wide t-post at 450 yards - but you can't hit the fucking 18"w x 32"t steel target... DNP
Vera has broken more target stands than targets...just sayin.
DNP
2x4’s are cheaper than t-posts. Lighter too. If we made some stands for them, it would really be worth it. Broken 2x’s go in the fire and walla....no trash to haul home.
98Z5V
The PVC was a nightmare... It was ingenious, and maybe a little pricey - and it worked... Light, portable, easy to set up... We just didn't take into account the amount of lead that would find the target stand, instead of the target...

MikedaddyH
I was thinking... We could make several stands cheap and portable. Angle iron base with a 2x4 bottom stand welded together then the top bracket and target sitting on top of the 2x4.

DNP
Instead of the chain I’d like to run a straight piece of heavy rebar between the 2x’s. That runs through eye bolts on the target and allows the target to rotate and dissipate energy a little. We should be able to come up with something pretty cheap. sketch
Ive used this before with a 12' 2x4 spread, hang as many targets as you can. Adjust the leg height to desired (safe) angle to backstop. maybe stake it down for heavy led .. https://www.acehardware.com/departments/tools/tools-storage-and-organization/sawhorses/23842?x429=true&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiAk7TuBRDQARIsAMRrfUaoEn5V_36uhnPVK65FSSrvpFYLwu4y60E09YOQAoAR4tq1-rjUqEAaArvlEALw_wcB

I've seen pieces of fire hose used and it worked really well. That stuff will take a lot of hits before letting go!
Magwa
we use rebar 1 piece on each side drive it in the ground and we weld a ring on the backside two pieces of chain and they last us all season, hit the Fooking target you limp Dicks quit aiming at the chain and posts!😁

DNP
It’s a little more like pointing at the target. Most times.
