archangel Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 I have been wanting an AR-308 for years but never had the money. now i do and i have already built 3 ar15s and i wanted a different build. I couldn't find anything i 100% liked out there, ar308 wise. So what do you do? adapted and overcome and build your own. I did a ton of research and I wanted to get a very accurate and reliable rifle. Between the dpms ar15 i already have and the parts list i saw i liked, i decided to go with dpms for the ar308 build. here are the parts i accumulated so far:Upper Receiver:dpms ap4 flattop upper with dust cover, forward assist and shell delectorlower receiver:complete dpms lower with a pmag includedbarrel:dpms 18.5" SASS series chrome lined and fluted heavy bull barrelsome misc accessories:magpul ladder guards, miad grip wedge, pmags, and moe trigger guard[img width=810 height=604]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/integra_papa/Arsenal/06efeda1.jpg
98Z5V Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 I have been wanting an AR-10 for years but never had the money. DPMS is not an AR-10. Fix your thread title, by editing your post. Hate to be a stickler, but that's one big detail that matters. It's just not an Armalite AR-10, which would be the only "AR-10."
PapaDawg98 Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 You wont be using that trigger guard cause theres one built into the lower.
98Z5V Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Arch, sorry I came across as getting on you about that, last night - I only meant to correct the terminology, but I didn't do that very politely. My apologies for stating it the way I did, man. <thumbsup>

Retired JM Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 I would also replace the stock trigger with one from Gissele. DPMS triggers have a rep for being heavy and gritty.
392heminut Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 I would also replace the stock trigger with one from Gissele. DPMS triggers have a rep for being heavy and gritty.I'll second that! An aftermarket trigger will be the first upgrade I do on my LR-308 I just got.
archangel Posted January 3, 2012 Author Report Posted January 3, 2012 started the assembly today. going to order more parts to complete the upper friday. got a jump on things. took only a few minutes.[img width=810 height=604]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/integra_papa/Arsenal/06543fc4.jpg[img width=810 height=604]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/integra_papa/Arsenal/10be1b13.jpg
archangel Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 UPDATE: 1-9-12my handguard will be here wednesday. i do have pics of the parts that came in today. dpms sass series gas block and gas tube. also picked up some 7.62 mag tabs. i wish they made the ranger plates but not as of yet. enjoy[img width=810 height=604]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/integra_papa/Arsenal/569ae50c.jpg[img width=810 height=604]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/integra_papa/Arsenal/3e0df5ff.jpg[img width=810 height=604]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/integra_papa/Arsenal/8f6b880a.jpg
Guest BWCustoms Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 As someone pointed out the trigger guard is integrated into the lower and cannot be changed out. (Well, not without a power tool lol). When people ask at the range what I am shooting I use the term AR-10 because its the simplest description that is universally known as "shoots .308"I am dorky enough - I don't need to compound the problem explaining the difference between an AR-10 and a LR-308 to some person who probably could care less. ;)
archangel Posted January 14, 2012 Author Report Posted January 14, 2012 updategot my hand guard in the mail. gonna install the whole upper tomorrow. some pics for now and more to follow tomorrow[img width=810 height=604]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/integra_papa/Arsenal/9ebee90d.jpg

98Z5V Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Just a heads-up - don't tighten those two pinch bolts too tight. Pay attention to the torque specs that they say to adhere to. If not... CRACK! :o
hobbesgunner Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Lookin' good <thumbsup>....won't be long now... :sniper:don't know bout you., but I get that nervous anxiousness when piecing a gun together...love it...

Rsquared Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Love that Troy rail. I got that on one of mine. Extremely light, yet strong. The masking on the rail numbers must have taken quite some patience.
archangel Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 i love my rail. yea it took like 30 minutes to mask off but it looks awesome. never seen anyone with an od green troy rail. always see black and FDE. just wanted something different. overall i am very happy with my choices.more updates to comevery close to being completed. very excited

sgtspike Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 archangel dig the black and green sweet, looking at a new sass for next build
cyclops Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 Nice rifle. I'll be using the Troy TRX for my new .308 buils as well. I don't know if you're aware of this but Troy does make a lower profile version of that rail to fit your upper so that the rails on your forend and upper are perfectly flush. Probably doesn't matter since you're not using BUIS, but that would drive me nuts. <thumbsup>
