hello, been lurking for a while...

But decided to register in order to get some help from the local experts.

But first a little about myself. I'm a retired LEO from a municipal PD in the NorthEast. I was on the job for 18 years, 13 as a member of our SRT, and 6 as a Dept firearms and tactics instructor. Until a neck injury forced me to take a disability retirement about 5 years ago.

Since then, I've been spending a lot of my, now extensive, free time, with various weapons builds. I've done an AR build with a PWS Mk116 piston upper, two Saiga builds, one a 12g and one a 308 Galil clone battle rifle. I'm currently finishing up my LR308 build. Its started on a Tactical Machine lower, with a Magpul PRS and Timney trigger.

Now to my problem, instead of building the upper, I bought a lightly used complete upper. With a 20 inch fluted barrel on a DPMS A3 upper receiver. However, it came with a handguard that allows rails to be screwed on, in a modular fashion. But it only came with three short rails and I would like more, longer rails. I thought it was from DPMS but they say it isn't theirs after I sent them pics.

So, I'm trying to find out who made this handguard, so i can buy more rails, and I'm really hoping someone here will recognize it. I've bought several sets of rails that i thought were close, by trying to match up the number of individual bars between screw holes, which I count at five. I can't find any low profile rails, with five bars between screw holes, that are countersunk like these rails.

My only other option is to buy another handguard, but I'd like to see if there is anyone here that might have info that can help me first.

Thanks in advance for looking, and I look forward to being on the board for a while.

Hey edge and unforgiven, thanks for the welcome, from up in Maine.

I looked at PRI rails, and they only have 4 bars between screw holes, and the magpuls i can find online are closer together.

The screw holes on the handguard are 2 inches on center, and I actually found one the rails I bought a while back, that I think was for a G36, which has holes 4 inches apart, so that might work as a stop gap, but the rail itself is high profile, and has a pitch to it, i might use it on the underside with a rail cover for now.

But I still, would love to find out who manufactured the handguard so I can locate the proper rails.

Thanks for the input

Many thanks to Matt Cross, I got an email notice that he posted a reply, but for some reason it isn't showing up here. But he stated he thought it was a Midwest Industries handguard contracted to DPMS. Haven't located anything specific about that particular handguard.

But checking MI's site, their new SS free float handguard for the AR10 looks like it uses the same dimensions, with screw holes on 2" centers.

Midway sells these rails in 2" 4" and 6",

I might try buying on 6", if that works then I will buy some more.

This has been a big help guys, thanks again

Yeah, it appears to be the same 2 inch on center holes. I actually decided to try MI's set of screw on panels, for their Gen2 SS handguard. They are cheaper then rails, and I wanted to put rail covers on anyway, so I can delete a step.

It'll be nice if the screws use the same thread pattern, but that is an easy fix.

So, thanks for the tip Matt

And I'll be sure to do a progress update when I get the panels.

Born and raised in Portland, and spent those 18 years on PPD. Spent quite a bit of time in Bar Harbor,,and all around Mount Desert Island, especially Arcadia National Park, some great hiking trails for sure.

Ill keep looking for the actualrd manufacturer, but hopefully those screw on covers from Midwest Industries will do the trick.

Next step is deciding on a scope, being on fixed disability income, I gotta stay around $300 for now, and I was looking at this Millet TRS-1 4-16x50

https://www.primaryarms.com/Millett_Bk81001_416x50_Trs1_Tac_Illum_BK81001_p/bk81001.htm

If anyone with any experience with Millet can pass on any info, that'd be great. Or anyone with any other suggestions for $300 scopes with decent quality, that will compliment the AR308 I'd appreciate that too.

Thanks all, for the warm wecome
