Gray05 Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 https://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=1209 I plan on getting this 15" high rail handguard in a week or so. Anybody have it? Do you like/dislike it? Why? Anybody have something similar that they think is better?
Toolndie7 Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 I almost got one of those. But I have a "low profile" dpms upper soI ended up getting a Troy battle rail which basically mounts the same way which I'm not a huge fan of but its a lot more rigid than you would think. Ive heard lots of good reviews on the midwest stuff though.
washguy Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Gray Ive got one on one of my 308's and the same type on one of my 6.8's...no problemos so far its interesting to note that the ar15 type has a locking tab that sticks out to stop rotation, but they cant do it for the 308 size......so, its the same lockup as the trx which I also have....just be sure to take your time torquing down the 2 bolts that clamp it down :) Wash
AggieSigGuy Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) Have you checked out the Fulton Armory handguards? I've read they're made by Yankee Hill. I'm leaning heavily toward one of those for this 308 build. http://www.fulton-armory.com/far-308-handguards.aspx Edited March 1, 2014 by AggieSigGuy
washguy Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Hi Aggie you can do better price wise and function....check out apex or trx :) Wash
Gray05 Posted March 2, 2014 Author Report Posted March 2, 2014 Aggie, I like Fulton Armory and try to do business with them whenever possible. But, my build will rely on a top rail for optics. Also, 12" is ok, but I'd rather longer. I appreciate all the feedback guys. Keep it coming. So far, the Midwest SS seems the best weight/features for the money. Wash, so you've never had rotation problems in spite of lacking the locking tab? This gun will mainly be for hog hunting so it needs to be relatively rugged.
washguy Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Gray nope not a problem with the trx or Midwest rotating or becoming loose....but the apex is sweet! :) Wash
Gray05 Posted March 2, 2014 Author Report Posted March 2, 2014 Wash, what kind of gas block are using with your Midwest?
washguy Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Gray I use this one in some http://www.jsesurplus.com/yhmlowprofilegasblockshort.aspx and one has the MI gas block.....I think its called the micro? most all low profile gb's will work with the trx MI or apex :) Wash
AggieSigGuy Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Welcome from Indiana brother Aggie. Thank you sir. I hope to contribute to the forum.
AggieSigGuy Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) I know I'm opening myself up for abuse, but here goes... If I use one of these handguard tubes for example, could I use Magpul MOE rails on it? It seems doable with a little patience.http://www.jsesurplus.com/dpms308ventedfreefloattubestandard.aspxhttp://308ar.com/titan_handguard.htm Edited March 3, 2014 by AggieSigGuy
Robocop1051 Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I don't see why not. I put them on my Apex handguard.
washguy Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Aggie just get yourself an apex, trx, midwest ss...and be done with it.....its only money <laughs> your two examples suk.... <laughs> just kidding....im sure they would work :) Wash
survivalshop Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 You may have to drill & tap the screw holes in the DPMS , the FA already has them & if they line up with it , its all good .
unforgiven Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 The bueaty of the moe rails is no tapping necessary.Just my 2 mags.
AggieSigGuy Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Aggie just get yourself an apex, trx, midwest ss...and be done with it.....its only money <laughs> your two examples suk.... <laughs> just kidding....im sure they would work :) Wash Thanks Wash. Now I'm leaning toward Apex and Magpul MOE rails. Apex looks to be solid
NTXshooter Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 I just put an APEX 15" on my build. I really like it. Right now, they have a 14" on clearance for $197 on their website. For $60 bucks less than the 15", it is worth consideration.
98Z5V Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Damn, that's a good looking rifle. <thumbsup>
Rsquared Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 I like those Apex handguards. Looks good my man.
NTXshooter Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 Don't want to hijack the thread but wanted to say thanks for all of the praise.
Grendel Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 Went with the Midwest 15" ........matches up very nice with my DPMS Low profile upper.
