Microgunner Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 That's some beautiful wood. Your boy, does he play well?
Toolndie7 Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 If I can get the solid models for the grips, I can generate the G-code for ya! I have some 1911 files for you whats your email?
AdamO Posted October 15, 2014 Author Report Posted October 15, 2014 That's some beautiful wood. Your boy, does he play well? He's getting there for sure. Some of the stuff I'll hear him doing on his acoustic really takes me by surprise. He's always been VERY musically inclined. Only took him about a year and a half or so to make me look stupid playing drums and I've been doing that since I was 7. He's 70% of where I am at guitar-wise and he's only been at that for 6 months. It's all he does though is go practice every free minute of every last day. If he didn't have school, sports, and chores I'm sure he'd spend 8 hours a day nonstop in his room playing.
Microgunner Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 He's gonna buy you a mansion some day.
Toolndie7 Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 He's gonna buy the world chico and everything in it fixed that for you
MaDuce Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 THAT IS AWESOME!!! I am always filled with joy to see real craftsmen still at work in this country.
AdamO Posted November 2, 2014 Author Report Posted November 2, 2014 Thanks brother! So been busy but finally got around to gluing up the body blank, finishing up toolpaths and cutting a proof out of foam. I always do a styrofoam proof of an unproven design beforehand. It turned out good except the bridge position is of by nearly .125" easy fix though. Goes to show ya you can measure and plan all you want but you won't know sh!t until you actually start putting parts together!
Microgunner Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 I think you aught to carbon fiber up the foam test piece and make a finished guitar out of it too.
shepp Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 That's a good idea! dad always told me, mesure twice cut once :)
Toolndie7 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 Adam, saw this and thought of your project
AdamO Posted November 18, 2014 Author Report Posted November 18, 2014 MY GAWD that's a beautiful finish!! I'm a big fan of the Ocean Burst! That quilted maple just POPS! I did a design very similar to that one (but not an exact copy) when I was still doing this as a business. My design was kind of a cross between a PRS and a Music Man. Turned out awesome! Ash body, Rock Maple, 3 Piece / Two Octave Laminated neck, 10-16" Compound Radius Red Oak fretboard with NO inlays (I like my fretboards clean, because you either know what the hell you're doing or you don't! HAHA!) Built two of these in fact.. One of them was the very last guitar built under the Dominus Guitars name. Here are some pics!! :) Played like butter and notes just exploded off the fretboard. Something about it was special though... The right combination of the woods, the shape, the scale, the pickups, I don't know exactly.... It turned out to be just a perfect storm of guitar awesomeness... To date, it's the only guitar I've ever held with which I could run pentatonic scales using pinch harmonics all the way up and down the neck!
Magwa Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Hey Adam, did you know that Magwa played for a band? Magwa needs to tell those stories, 'cause they're pretty badass. <thumbsup> Come on, Mike, spill it, brother! How did you know about that ancient history....... Hmmmmm well maybe in another thread sometime man that was a long time ago......
unforgiven Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 Those are amazing finishes, bueatiful pieces.
AdamO Posted November 24, 2014 Author Report Posted November 24, 2014 Thank you my brothers! Magwa... need to hear more about this band! Sounds like Tom's got the dirt! HAHA.
Magwa Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 Yeah he has the dirt wonder how he got that dirt.... lol It was almost 50 years ago damn!.... long story short version I played in a band in the mid 60's we were good and we had some very lucky breaks we opened for The Who, The Yardbirds {all three incarnations of them} hermans hermits, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit wheels, Bobby Goldsboro, and a ton of other one hit wonders from the 60's had a couple of records that did well in the midwest and then I went into the Navy and reality caught up to me.... Got to meet all the Who and spend Kieth Moons 21st Birthday with him, met Jimmy Page Jeff beck, and took the late Kieth Relf (singer for the Yardbirds )rabbit hunting and I am sure I did other stuff but can not remember it all..... LOL
AdamO Posted November 25, 2014 Author Report Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) That was the night The Who opened for Herman's Hermits in Flint Michigan and the famous hotel party! So did he really drive a limo into the swimming pool and blow up the sh!tter with some dynamite? Were you in Blues Magoos? Edited November 25, 2014 by AdamO
unforgiven Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Very cool brother Mike. <thumbsup>
Magwa Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 (edited) No not that night this night was in August the exact day eludes me but I can find out they were playing in Oklahoma city Oklahoma at a place called Wedge wood amusment park the stage was a roof top we played first for about 45 min then they came on and played a few songs then Johnny dar a disk jockey from WKY radio came on a presented Kieth with a birthday cake it was a large sheet cake keith promptly took the cake and started throwing large chunks into the crowd till everyone was throwing cake in the first three or four rows it was funny as hell and I will never forget it . The Who that night tore their equipment all to hell I use to have a piece of a stratocaster from that night but it has dissapeared through the years... The Noblemen was the name of the band i played in.... OK his Birthday is august 23rd 1946 he turned 21 on that night in 1967 at the above venue....here is a little proof for those who may call BS LOL Edited November 26, 2014 by Magwa
