  1. Nice job. I use any thing I have on me at the time & I always have a firearm of some sort while in the woods.
  2. Nice spread sheet . As long as we know , its not about just Velocity , its about how well the loading shoots consistently . I'm sure you know that having a consistent grouping load /rifle is far more important than how fast its goes. Running out of steam, in what sense ?
  3. None I know of .
  4. More then likely the A2 type sights being used on most 308 AR's ( probably not Armalite ) are designed for the AR 15/M 4 family of rifles , so that could explain why the graduations don't work out .
  5. The You caught me again , another Doooooo! , but they're data are next to each other , so it was an easy typo . I will edit & change them . 16" bbl.- 39 gr. 4064 , 175 gr. Nosler match , avg. vel.-2234 fps ES - 91 fps SD - 32 fps. 20" bbl. - 39 gr. 4064 , 175 gr. Nosler match , avg. vel. 2370 fps. ES - 82 fps. SD - 27 fps. Just so you know , both rifles were shooting 1/2" groups @ 100 yards off sand bag rests. To me the barrel length thing means nothing , unless you are going for the top limits in range for this cartridge .
  6. A Happy Thanksgiving to all .
  7. Depends what powder you use & if you use hot loads . Could shorten the life of any barrel . Maybe its just those darn piston guns <dontknow> <laughs>
  8. I hate it when they don't hang right . <laughs>
  9. Nice guy ! <thumbsup> Last thing I did on my reloading bench was work on my instrument cluster from my F150 , the other day . <dontknow> That will soon change .
  10. Wonder how that works shooting left hand . I guess where the port is pointing would make a deference Some one is making a 308AR BC with serration's for the FA , in the same area as an AR 15 . There is a thread on it around here some where. It may have been Aero . I've never used the FA on my 308AR , I have one with & one with out ,a FA. .
  11. Subliminal message <hump>
  12. I ment to type Upper <dontknow> , I fixed it . Doooooooo! The choice of course is yours on barrel length & we are just putting our experiences forward, for you to scratch you head with . <thumbsup> If you look at my comparison data , there is about 100 FPS loss between the 20" & 16" , so an 18" would be some where around 50 fps & if you look at the IMR 4064,in some loads there is almost no noticeable difference in Velocity between the two Barrels . so to me barrel length between a 16, 18 & 20 " doesn't mean enough to chose one over the other , as far as FPS . All loads we tested with DPMS 308AR's If your building a bench rifle , by all means go with a 20" HB.
  13. no picture
  14. The reason for the 16" coming up so much is weight & the 20" will add to that figure . I can tell you my 16" shoots just a well as my 20" @ 200 yards . I will be going much further this spring in my barrel comparisons . I don't see any advantage to the longer barrel or very little out to 600 yards & if I had a choice of carrying one or the other , the 16" would win hands down . The M4 feed ramps are not needed in a 308AR rifle . I'll post some photo's of my Fulton Armory , Kreiger Criterion barrels feed ramps for your viewing . Here's my 16" FA barrel , if this has M4 feed ramps , do you have the corresponding ramp cuts in your lower Upper receiver ?
  15. AR10a should be a 308 rifle , I don't know their designation of their .223/5.56 line , but sure its not AR 10a & that's what is posted in this thread . http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=DEF10&ReturnUrl=Categories.aspx?Category=c4bf2a5c-d77d-4f58-8022-95f6afe8e6cf Ejection port cover, forward assist, and brass deflector are standard on all DSR Series rifles. 16. I find it a safety thing to remove the Receiver extension , when jammed as this one , its the ," what if " , when there is a loaded ,unfired cartridge in the chamber . remove the spring pressure & there is no way the BCG can " spring forward" & do something to ignite the chambered cartridge . May be over kill , but I like these things to fire , when I want them to , not when , they , want to . . <dontknow> The Ejector Pin is small , hard to tell by the photo's what length it is to see if its missing material or not . I would think your Ejector Spring could be in your lower somewhere or ejected with a fired case leaving on Ejection , changing magazines ,hard to tell . Your Gunsmith seems to have you taken care of . I would still call or email DPMS & tell them , they may send you a new bolt . I have read about buggered up Pins but ,not one that came out . Probably not assembled correctly at the Factory , never had one of mine or worked on one with this problem .
  17. I want to know how to make fuel out of Cane , I may do that one day m grow my own & not worry about fuel , if the world takes a dump . I would think I would have to distill it in some way , a Still ? Ya , I need one . <thumbsup>
  18. M4 feed ramps ? We are talking about a 308AR correct ? You could be making this a little too complicated , the head scratching is a clue <thumbsup> Mid length will work , the only difference between a mid & rifle will ( maybe) be a little more recoil & all actions can be tweaked with a different Buffer , buffer spring or both & then you can also get into a adjustable gas block .
  19. Ya Ya , photo's or you don't own it ! <lmao> If you read the post from AdamO , you will see a photo of the shaft length differences in the std AR 15 mag catch & the Armalite AR 10 catch , it is longer ( not to mention the pad that locks into the Magazine is configured differently ) & as 98K posted , the depth of how much the catch is threaded into the button is different in a 308AR platform . I have the G2S in my 16" & its almost as good as my SSA , thats in my 20"
  20. This is directed at all . Why do some people who build AR type firearms think they are like Leg-go's . You are building a Firearm & that requires fitting of components to achieve its proper function. With a small explosion going off every time you pull the trigger, you could be playing with your life. Because someone has built an AR & it worked , that all will be that way , most get lucky with the AR 15 Platform , not so with the 308 AR's for the most part . I have no problem with people building there own rifles , but with out prior experience with these type rifles , you run the risk or something like this happening .You are making yourself a gunsmith & a Gunsmith would have to get this rifle working if he/she built it, thats what they do. You can't expect PA to fix rifle builds that they did not assemble at the factory. If you wanted a PA rifle , have them build it & then deal with the warranty if its screwed up . 308 AR's have more fitment problems than the AR 15 platform because of the wide variations of platforms out there & no MilSpec's to be manufactured by . You can say I'm insulting the reader who has numerous builds under his/her's belt , but the facts are , your just an assembler ,not a Gunsmith & you will not hear a Gunsmith complain about a build he or she assembled & fitted , that they couldn't get it to function ! My point is , with any build you do , some of the responsibility for its out come , is on you ,the builder . Its too easy to blame the manufacturer of the components .
  21. I went to a Cane party the other day & it was quite interesting to watch them make cane syrup. Cane that has already had the juices extracted by the PTO extractor . The PTO driven Extractor Boiling or cooking off the impurities , using rags as filters . It boils over & filtered then runs back into the cast iron brewing kettle. A Hydrometer was used to know when its ready to strain & bottle . The final product . The cost of this on such a small scale is prohibitive , but they shared this with us . My wife works with the owners of the Farm & we contributed $ 5 per bottle & if you tried it , its worth it .
  22. So ,one of you conditions for picking a barrel is a gas block & gas tube you have on hand ? I normally pick the barrel I want & then get the proper components for it . The 16" barrel in the load testing I posted , is a FA 16" with a rifle length gas system & 0.936" as is the FA 20" I have .
  23. Maybe your just hungry ?
