  1. I have a Olympic Arms ,24 ",S/S, 5.56 Match HB on my pre ban Olympic Arms build & its been on there since 1980 & still shoots very well & I never kept a round count , but I will bet its more than 5000 RD's . How well you take care of it , will help its serviceability length.
  2. Seems like they have plenty of ammo <dontknow> <laughs>
  3. Should have never left the shop & given back to the owner in that condition. Never ! If they don't replace that barrel assembly at no cost to the customer , the customer should lawyer up. To me , I think it can still be a hoax . Update; Re: Friend's rifle was butchered at local shop....
  4. I bought an select fire , FNHB ,instead of the BAR & wish I would have bought the BAR instead , but man was the FNHB fun . Of course that was when a case of 7.62x51 was only eighty bucks . <dontknow> Love the BAR <thumbsup>
  5. Welcome , I do need sling for my 45-70 & I'll be in touch soon .
  6. I like your thinking . <lmao>
  7. Cut, then Welded the gas block back together , priceless ! I can't see how he can even clam he is his welder ? Or want to . Should have never been given back to the owner like that , it is truly unbelievable or as some said , a hoax .
  8. For the money the ALG trigger is hard to beat & is installed & has the same make up as a std. AR trigger with out the long & gritty pull . I have two & after break in , both break at 5# 's . If you want match quality , you need to spend some $$$ on one .
  9. <lmao>
  10. I see it as just another choice for an AR type firearm configuration , like the Crossbow AR , to each there own .
  11. I can not remember anything remotely like what we have ( & still are ) been through, since this POS ran/ became" The Queen ". Its still hard to get some ammo & Components , it wasn't long ago I could just order what ever I wanted ! <dontknow> I"m spoiled ! <laughs>
  12. TacOps -1 <thumbsup> If you have a large scope , there is no other . <thumbsup> If you want just the extended or larger release , the DPMS 308 is the same as on AR's .
  13. Both calibers will do the job , the 30'06 ,as has been said, has more choices in bullets ,if your a hand loader. I own two 30'06 rifles ( Garand & 1903A3 ) & no 270 rifles .
  14. We require photo's of all builds & parts . <thumbsup>
  15. I'm pretty sure he didn't like mine , I over simplified it for those who don't know much about the two rifles , he wasn't the only one I answered it for . I could be wrong .
  16. Question is , with the cut down barrel , will it give you the length you need . Your cutting down an 18" or a 20" ? Cutting it down to 16 " or going shorter & want a Brake / Compensator to make it out to 16.25 "
  17. How do you know your getting light primer strikes ? FTF , Failure to feed or Failure to fire ? The rifle fires, after you hand load the cartridge in the chamber & dropped the BCG ? Just dropping the BCG on a cartridge in the chamber will more than likely produce an indentation on the primer . Follow JP"s advice or get there spring , to start out with. If the BCG is not fully driven back far enough & the BC is feeding the cartridge from the magazine , instead of the Bolt , that is one circumstance that would cause FTF ( failure to feed ) & it would not be the first I have heard from that Captured Spring assembly .
  18. Nice . what caliber ?
  19. Here's an 18 " & I have two of their barrels & both shoot much better than me .( of course )http://www.fulton-armory.com/barrelfatitan185lwcm1x10750gasblockchrome-lined.aspx I will recommend that you buy the Upper & Lower as a set by the same manufacturer , just to make sure there is no Tolerance stacking between the two .
  20. WC 846 is a batch to batch load , your right my WC846 is close to BLC 2 , but I can't load 308's using WC 846 to the load data of BLC 2 . Its close & if you use the rule to start any powder 10-15 % above the lower load data , you can be safe enough using it . I have looked at least three burn charts & all there read the IMR 4064 as slower , but in my experience the Ball powders are all faster than Extruded . There are so many factors involved with changes in powder charges , that unless you have some very expensive monitoring equipment , you would not know the effects of charge weight changes & there effects on Velocity , Could also be changes in Bullet composition or variances in that batch of bullets . Even though I weigh my brass , it could have a factor in it also . Trying to find that needle in a haystack would be full time job . You whole question is about barrel length & which is best & that boils down to what you want to use it for . Bench rifle , go long , Hunting or Combat rifle , go short . The 308 is a very powerful cartridge & if keeping with normal ( rifle type , not pistol ) lengths , they will all reach out there. Of course I'm talking about well made barrels , not bargain basement barrels . Yes , I already miss not finding any WC 846 , its my go to powder & the 40 gr. charge ( with this batch of WC 846 ) its the best shooting in both , 16 & 20 " barrels , but a lot of others are close . The IMR 4895 with the Nosler 175 Match , was real respectable .
  21. If this is your calling out for help , we understand brother . <laughs>
  22. It will always be less expensive to buy a complete rifle then build one , but if not satisfied with what the manufacturers build , building one is the way to go if you want to make it , your way. Plenty of threads on this in the "Technical section" section on the information you are looking for.
  23. This is correct & the poster asked about the use of heavy bullets in the 308AR platform as compared to the great Mi rifles & even though we answered it sarcastically , we did answer the question & my reference to piston guns was making fun of them , because of the rivalry that some have about the std. DI gas system in most 308AR's. The M1 series of rifles have a completely different bolt /lug . Direct impingement ( DI ) gas system operates the BCG & unlocking of the multi luged bolt of the 308AR . The M1's ,as you know suffer from a very long piston /rod set up for the unlocking of a two lug bolt . A lot of mass moving , very good system , but the more mass moving the more it will put stress on a wood stocked rifle , no matter what system is used for the bedding , some are better than others , but time & round count will still bring the end results . The 308AR's are all Aluminum , be it Billet or Forged , they will take it much better than any wood stock. The barrel/chamber wear is about the only thing that will degrade performance. Even a loose Upper/Lower receiver fit , has very little effect on how well they shoot .
  24. WC846 Ball powder ( aporx. burn rate of BLC2 ) a slower burning powder than the extruded IMR 4064 , not sure about that one . First off , all loads were hand weighed to precisely the weights shown with a Pact Digital scale . There was a lot going on then just the components used , some fresh annealed brass was used & I think I specified that . All were trimmed to the exact trim to length of 2.005" . There were some Full length sized & Small Based sized , so it could have slight differences in the outcome , but these loads were for testing & working up a loading for BOTH rifles . I too don't want to have a different load for both rifles , but if you want to get the most out of any barrel/chamber/length , you will have to make different set ups for them . I really don't care what one load does to another as long as the end results are a consistent groups at all ranges .The reloads were posted just to show the comparisons between the two bbl. lengths & may or may not show the same results with another barrel/brand . Powder burn rates & a different primer can make much different pressures , thats why there are different sweet spots ( groups ) in any velocity/bullet powder combo. I'm not sure what your getting at , because I think you are over thinking this whole thing , my loadings were just for reference for my two different length barrels made by the same manufacturer. Also , we are talking about 308AR's , not Bolt action rifles . As far as losing steam , I don't want to be the one standing in front of any 30 cal. bullet @ 1000 yards , be it a supposedly tumbling 168 SMK or what ever. <thumbsup>
