  1. Your rifling twist may have some thing to do with bullet choice. MV is not always the answer. Powder , primer ( maybe a mag primer ? ) & right bullet , you will need to experiment with different ones to coexist with your barrel , all barrels/chambers will like different combos of bullets/powder & in most cases bullet speed.
  2. Would that Jax , be Jacksonville ,Fl. ? jon308 If you are unsure of your capabilities , it is a good idea to ask here on what procedures are needed to replace or upgrade some thing. There's not much we haven't been through or can't figure out , but some things are beyond some owners capabilities & should seek out a good gunsmith. You are right about finding a shop that specializes in AR's ,of any type . Some think they are , but fall short of it .
  3. I mount all rings , mounts using a lapping tool & lap most of them( I don't bother with most 22lr , rifles, but maybe I should ) . All mounts & ring set ups are mass produced & some will get by the inspectors or inspection & I don't care who made them.
  4. Will not hurt , if you lap them , any imperfections will show up , if any . Also as said above .
  5. 4 1/2 Blackhawk in 45 Colt
  6. I would not separate the bolt from the barrel . The Bolt carrier , not a problem . The bolt may be matched or seated to that barrels ,barrel extension .
  7. I just voted early & just couldn't bring myself to vote for him ! <laughs>
  8. We , here in Florida & the south , didn't want keep all the storms to our selves this year, so we let this one go by us , sorry. <dontknow>
  9. Could have done with out the BO , vote for me thing , but looks like that DI , AR rifle worked with out much trouble . Where do these people get all the ammo & time to do this poop ?
  10. Ya ,what did we do to them :wtf:
  11. I went to the fun store & the shorter barreled brother of this one was still there ( they were brought in together ) , so I put some moneys down on it , so now I have a 5 1/2" & a 4 1/2" Blackhawks in 45Colt . I have a nice photo of it , I think you all will like & its not just the revolver .I'll down load it later. I will let the wife have the shorter version & cast some lead for it , I have a 228 gr. round nose , I can cast for it. Nice light load for her .
  12. Nice job & some wonder why we reload .
  13. There are single point slings that you can loop the sling around the stock & no need to have a clip type or loop adapter . The spec ops sling( from Brownells , of course) I have ,will set up in a number of ways & securely, at that . I had it set up for my 870 to hunt with ( slug gun ), with out an adapter , but ended up getting one for it later on & an HK type clip for quick release .
  14. I have saved shipping on so many orders this year with the discount code here , its a very good thing. My orders never get below $ 200 & man, no shipping cost is a big thing with me. It seems I order weekly. I have been dealing with Brownells for over twenty five years ( might be longer , don't remember when I started ) & they have been great , top quality & they stand behind what they sell .
  15. Don't know the weight , going to check Rugers sight or weigh it my self . Ya talked me into the FO front sight , should be here the 24 th from my Brownells order this week . planeflyer21 I might try LG powder ,but right now I will use what I have on hand . I did order some 250 gr. XTP bullets to try , hell they were $ 5 .00 cheaper than the 240 gr. XTP's , go figure . Not sure if I want to go with the 300 gr. bullets , might try them though , what the hell, I like big bullets. <thumbsup>
  16. I have experimented with 150 gr. exposed lead spear points & they were pretty accurate , but I have a 16" Wilson bbl. & am now getting very good results from Nosler 125 gr. ballistic tips , using H110. I'm not a fan of any exposed lead ammo in an AR type rifle , because it can shave lead & the possibility of that shaved lead in the chamber , just doesn't sit well with me . Hell, I'm not to crazy about the ballistic tipped stuff. I have yet to try any of them, 150 or 125 on a Hog yet ,but its on my to do list.
  17. I went to order from Brownells the other day & nothing would go into my cart, the new format is nice ,but clicking on there help button , I found there new sight is not compatible with some windows ,like my windows XP. Looking through there fix's , I see that it would work with updated Firefox , so I updated it & away it went , no problem ordering or using there filters for specific manufacturers parts or firearm specific needs . Don't know if any one else has had any problems , but I just about order weekly from them .
  18. It is all about what the rifle is used for . A Sniper /Hunter , will want to set up for the first shot or maybe two , where a target rifle( or one that will be shot at multiple & frequent targets ) that will see a bunch of rounds down range will need to know more about how it shoots cold & warm ,because you always ( or should ) take a few warm up shots before you shoot for groups.
  19. First , when you load one round in the mag. & fire it , does the action ( bolt carrier group )lock back by the bolt stop ? This is just to see if the action has enough gas ,to work it properly. ( I do not like steel cased ammo & nor will a DPMS rifle & others ) It still sounds like the chamber is too tight or more likely too rough & its holding the case in the chamber & striping the extractor off the rim of the case. The rifle could be over gassed & is retracting the action before the case has lost enough pressure to release it from the chamber (still expanded in the chamber from firing )
  20. You mean like these ?
  21. Not impressed , I'll continue to use my altered clam shell & DPMS type upper holder for the 308's. For the record , I was talking about the Universal Vice blocks , not IM_JOHNNYV's
  22. Yes, I would not fire the rifle with a std A2 ,AR 15 spring in it , but to see if it truly is the spring pressure making it so hard to release the bolt stop , go ahead , just to test it. Ya never know , it could be a bolt stop fitment problem . I have seen it before . There is definitely a difference in the two types of springs ( AR 15 & AR 308 )
  23. The sights still seem to wash out on me ( could be age & nothing to do with the sights ) I seem to be going with the old Hercules Blue dot , Best ES & SD & recoil was not bad at all . Must have been the rest I was using , my Caldwell & sand bag worked much better than the other pistol rest. I shot a bunch off hand to see how it would do & I didn't do too bad for a new( to me )revolver . Printed good groups off the rest ,while on the chronograph . Might get some paint for the sights to put a three dot configuration , I will be hunting with this pistol & need some thing .
  24. With the proper choice of powder & primer , it should work. We are talking about 308 cartridge , are we not ? Just have to work up loads with different componants until your goal is reached . With the bullets available now a days , you can go lighter & have outstanding terminal performance at any range . The word Barnes , comes to mind .
  25. I use synthetic grease or Gun Slick grease on the backs of the bolt lugs , cam pin & guide rails of the bolt carrier, also on the hammer contact area & I can shoot hundreds of rounds with out any slow down . The heavy synthetic ( red & tacky )is for warmer climates & the Gun Slick grease ( it looks black ) is for colder climates & of course in sub freezing weather only light oils ( preferably synthetics ) There are a lot of good products out there now a days for these rifles . I also use CLP almost exclusively, but almost always with a good grease . A little dab , will do ya ! Almost sounds like a commercial .
