I believe a 16" or 18" AR with a red dot would cover both of those scenarios. I prefer a scope for hunting but I'm old :D I've been seriously considering the Tac30 combo.
Make sure to explore your options. When i dunked my automatic in a little water, it was cheaper to get a used one installed than it was to rebuild the existing unit. By about 1/2.
I've thought of Young's but it's a bit of a drive and not inexpensive to join. The one I belong to now goes out to 400. i'd like to stretch it out a bit further.
I would recommend a Bushnell 3200 Elite 10X mildot, if you like mildot reticles. I've used this for several years on several centerfires and it's always performed well. Clear and you don't have to worry about being on the proper power for the midots to be correct.
Here it is on my 597 WMR. A little ugly but it's at night so only I get to see it :) Now to sight it in @ 35 yards and go hunting with it. Maybe I should have put this in the black rifle section <laughs>
FPS is where it's at, but I need a keyboard and mouse to do it. I expect nothing special to happen in 2012. If there were ever a Zombie appocalypse I expect after all the prep I've done, I'd end up a zombie :(
I have an old friend who lives up there and says after a year you have all the same hunting fishing rights as the native Inuits? He doesn't hunt anymore just goes and nets his fish. Is that right?
I'll have to shoot for some groups @ 400 and post them up but from the bench on biopd, cross armed rear support I'm shooting around 6" or less groups @ 400 out of my Oracle using both 175 SMK and 150 BTSP.
I've seen those before and liked them. The problem I have with proprietary blades is it seems sooner or later somebody always goes out of business and you can't get them anymore.
