Aero Precision AR 308 charging handle fitment issue
jtallen83 replied to jbarryb's topic in Building a .308AR
Get us a picture of the handle inside the upper, where it should be dropping in. -
If you are not being arrested you don't have to identify. If they have pulled you over then yes, know you did a crime, other specific circumstances maybe but generally you have to be doing something wrong before they can look at your papers. I just tested this when I had the law called on me a few weeks back. They asked my name, I explained I had done nothing wrong so would not be providing my name, if and when the complainant, the hospital, IF they trespassed me then I would gladly provide it, they are well trained so introductions were not required. I'm not big on hassling LEO's doing there job but as a good citizen it's also my responsibility when it comes to respecting boundaries. THAT is policing, as long as it was a nice ask.

Meanwhile they are arresting guys for having a bottle opener with an idea. A kinda no bullschit guy with an opinion on it, at 9:00, he actually shows a picture of this auto thingy card bottle opener that will get you arrested,

Commerce or FDA?

Same great prices as the last quantity buy sale on parts except this time it's buy 5 instead of a hundred, more manageable for that home builder. http://enews.cdnnsports.com/q/y9OSbqZRBIbnRbTW6JLpJWEjaHtbxwcduBccR1V16wTAzrdQEPBQkmo92

I have had to travel and stay there for work a few times over these last years, I honestly had an oppressed feeling there, otherworldly schit, even dystopian, but then I'm an Iowa Hillbilly............. I don't think I would want to be around there if the money stops, those like you and @Rsquared that worked there should be thanked for your service.

Used those for uppers on many builds without issue. I did end up with a Geissele reaction rod for small frame but that was due to trying to fix someone else's use of an insane torque level to swap the handguard. I've never needed to use any where near enough force to twist a receiver in the block, I continue to use a barrel clamp as close to the muzzle device as possible for that work because it just feels wrong to apply the clamping force so far from the the work on a slender tube with the leverage factors involved. Odds are I will get a rod for the large frame as well, mostly because of the versatility it has holding the upper solid in different positions and the easy on off for all sorts of work.

What, no sense of adventure?

I'm having a hard time understanding how they could get anything but voluntary compliance from individual citizens. Companies and FFL's have bound themselves to the governments wishes so they will go after them, low hanging fruit, but individuals, that's a whole new deal. Nothing I'm aware of says you actually have to admit to buying one let alone tell them you sold it or who you sold it to, they are not ready for that step anyway. Just like bump stocks and all the other gun control schemes these "laws" sit in the background waiting to be used for those pile on moments when they want to punish someone. So Rare Breed actually lets me get to the point of clicking confirm, Iowa law has been clear on these types of triggers since I was a kid, just not allowed, binary triggers not allowed, cranks not allowed, Iowa has always been on manufacturers do not ship to list when it comes to trigger gimmicks, till now. Do they know something, want the fight, or just don't care and figure the release makes it your problem?

I've never seen the difference myself but I have heard from knowledgeable people that it does matter down the road. You want the cam pin back in the same way, something to do with a consistent wear pattern, said parts last longer. I first heard of it is when getting a BCG that had an arrow on the cam pin. I thought I was being smart by flipping them to get even wear, go figure.
-
Even beyond the not enabling them it is hard thinking you can't do anything about it and that never gets easier. I try to concentrate on controlling collateral damage for the youngsters.
-
Better grab one quick if you want one.
-
From? That kit should work BUT there is a "high pressure" bolt that uses a different pin, I would think they would have called that out but details matter.

Welcome from Iowa!

Welcome from Iowa! Beautiful country you live in there. Looking forward to hearing about that rifle, for sure shoot it a bunch before making any changes, amazing how thoughts change after am few hundred rounds.

RIP Sir! I got to see him at an open air festival while in Germany, 85 or 86, drank some green stuff that was being passed around the crowd, absinth they said, gave me a new appreciation for the man and his show...........

Yep, I remember when every us automaker had to buy or join up with a Japanese maker, I had a little ford truck with a motor that said mazda right on it, the motor was just there to cover some spread sheet agreements, the engineering is what they were after and what they got. Chinese did the same thing buying smithfield, they didn't want the pork, they wanted the tech, the production and QC details. It's amazing how low key the Chinese reps are when they come to my local plant, they almost act like spies??????

Never give up on a dream, get us the contact info, lets have Frank commenting to his coworkers about the sudden surge of emails requesting that rail we discontinued 5 years ago, it's a business, dangle the carrot and they might bite. Ever get that info? Is Frank the guy to bug?

Sometimes you have to just roll the dice. I know exactly where you are at, hell I've had the supposed dimensions and still had a clearance issue. Take into account I have a drawer full of parts that didn't work out but the Aero low profile blocks are some of the slimmest I have seen. I have one bull barrel myself, I will try and get some details from it later.

My Brother in law uses Donkeys to help with the coyotes, he runs cattle and Horses so they fit right in most times but can be a bit opinionated, I kinda like'em.
-
Sometime you can't and they won't. Sucks when you know the answer, you see it coming but all you can do to help is pick up the pieces that matter behind them. Some day he will realize what you did for him, not much solace now but kids are a long term investment full of priceless dividends along the way, enjoy what you can of it while you clean it up.
-
Yep, just the only answer to his question on why they would use an undersized gas port I can come up with beyond human error.
-
To make it work with a 3.5 ounce buffer system, all kinds of compromises are made by manufacturers in this platform, including bullschit in-between gas port locations. Could be you need more rounds, mate surfaces, seal gas leaks, break in you know.
-
Another lube video but this guy does a good job making fair comparisons.

Then there is something else wrong with your rifle.
